    Backwards Society

Was just thinking about how backwards some things really are in life like if your sick you have to walk to the back of the supermarket to buy medicine, yet if you wish to buy cigarettes to poison yourself and everyone around you it is right at the front door How banks charge the poor for not having money and reward the rich by giving them more money How if you want to get a home phone line installed, you have to phone up to arrange it how you need to show id to get a replacement to your ID you lost that you are better off being unemployed then on a low wage anyone got anything to add

    How Gullible Are We?

H2O: Dangerous Chemical! A student at Eagle Rock Junior High won first prize at the Greater Idaho Falls Science Fair, April 26. He was attempting to show how conditioned we have become to alarmists practicing junk science and spreading fear of everything in our environment. In his project he urged people to sign a petition demanding strict control or total elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen monoxide." And for plenty of good reasons, since: it can cause excessive sweating and vomiting it is a major component in acid rain it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state accidental inhalation can kill you it contributes to erosion it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients He asked 50 people if they supported a ban of the chemical. The title of his prize winning project was, "How Gullible Are We?" Forty-three (43) said yes, six (6) were undecided, and only one (1) knew that the chemical was water. He feels the conclusion is obvious. This was found on the newsgroup: rec.humor.funny Why do people not know what water is? Better yet how do people not know what water is? (...I fear the answers to these questions...)

For the third time I've heard them try and push their viewers to fight against Net Neutrality without even explaining what it is to their uneducated viewers. They claim Net Neutrality is bad because it allows ISPs, company's, and the government control over your Internet. The reality of it is Fox has it backwards. Like the name implies Net Neutrality is the act of keeping the net free and unregulated like it has been since it was created. Every since Senator McCain proposed his backwards ass "Internet Freedom Act." bill to congress, Fox News and other media outlets have been pushing this uneducated babble that Net Neutrality and the FCC are bad LOL. Here's some videos for those that are still confused [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWt0XUocViE]YouTube - Save the Internet![/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9jHOn0EW8U]YouTube - Net Neutrality[/ame] The reason this is blowing up so big now is because ISP's have been throttling and prioritizing web traffic, specifically bittorrent, and getting attacked by the FCC because of it. ISPs are complaining that the FCC hasnt given a fine line on what they can and cant do so they go a head with such practices of prioritizing certain program protocols on the Internet (ex. VoIP phones). So the FCC has stepped up and will be making that fine line clear so ISPs wont have any more excuses on what they can and cant do. The FCC will not be taking away our freedom or give ISPs the power to prioritize programs. They're fighting for us yet the media has it all backwards.

    Star Trek Discovery

Kinda unrelated... but I miss the days when technology kinda forced the tone of Star Trek battles.... unlike Star Wars, they were more like lumbering slow paced naval battles with big payoffs. While its cool to see 36 phazer beams and 50 photons flying out of star ships... eh. I kinda miss the tension. These two will always be my favorite.

I got a promotion with my job yesterday. I'll now be making more than I ever have doing this. $60k a year to do something I barely got paid $35k for at my previous company. The best news is that I'll have Saturdays off, and get off by 6-7pm on most days. I don't have to go to bed like some retiree anymore. So hopefully by the end of this year. Battlefield 6 will be out... it will be good... and maybe we can get the band back together @Sledgstone and @Strider Hiryu. Even though Strider is PC master race. I'm sure it'll have cross play. My gaming life has really suffered these past 3 years.

Mmm! And only $9.95 a can! Here's the official description on ThinkGeek: Pâté is passé. Unicorn - the new white meat. Excellent source of sparkles! Unicorns, as we all know, frolic all over the world, pooping rainbows and marshmallows wherever they go. What you don't know is that when unicorns reach the end of their lifespan, they are drawn to County Meath, Ireland. The Sisters at Radiant Farms have dedicated their lives to nursing these elegant creatures through their final days. Taking a cue from the Kobe beef industry, they massage each unicorn's coat with Guinness daily and fatten them on a diet comprised entirely of candy corn. As the unicorn ages, its meat becomes fatty and marbled and the living bone in the horn loses density in a process much like osteoporosis. The horn's outer layer of keratin begins to develop a flavor very similar to candied almonds. Blending the crushed unicorn horn into the meat adds delightful, crispy flavor notes in each bite. We are confident you will find a world of bewilderment in every mouthful of scrumptious unicorn meat. http://scifiwire.com/2010/04/mmm-sparkly-unicorn-meat.php the guys who come up with this stuff are awesome

This. Bungie stayed professional about losing all the rights to the IP they created. They parted ways without being nasty publicly. But if you read the articles at that time, everyone could see they got screwed hard. Sony swooped in, embraced them and it has paid off. It was a golden opportunity to finally have access to the company that revolutionized FPS. Bungie even had part in PS4's controller design, which means they were given unprecedented access to Sony's stuff in regards to next gen. Bungie felt the love and is returning it while Xbox One and 360 is just a cash cow for them as of right now. It reminds me of Nintendo and Rare back in the 90s. I understand why MS did what they did... but they didn't go about doing it the right way. They were mad that Bungie wanted to go 3rd party, so they intentionally tried to hurt them. The fans have to suffer, but they should be blaming MS, not Bungie... they're too caught up in the fanboyism of it all.
  28. 3 points
F'in whiners. I hope they realize that outside of the money Sony threw at Activision to get the special treatment for Destiny that Bungie is probably doing this as a slam in Microsoft's face for the way they treated them during their time developing Halo for them. Honestly MS screwed Bungie by taking the rights to Halo as part of the deal for them to leave but Destiny is already a much better game then Halo ever was (don't get me wrong I love the Halo series but honestly giving the game to 343 was, imo, the worst thing they could of done for the series) and I'm happy Sony is get preferential treatment with it. Make me even happier that I bought a PS4.

    Almost Human

Looks very good and high production for a tv series Judge Dredd meets iRobot Karl Urban + JJ Abrams = awesome cant wait The show will be predictable, solve murders each week, while the robot teaches the human what it means to be alive and how the human grows to trust the robot but this is one ill be following Also i am glad when film stars do TV shows as the quality is usually higher (24) but the worry is they don't like to be tied up for too long due to a film deal that pays way more for a lot less time Click here to view the article

    Old vs New

I think I realize now why I'm not much of a gamer these days and it's probably a personal preference among other things going on in my life as far as having not enough time for it. But, when there's a passion towards something, I'd make the time for it much like I make it a point to go swimming after work or if there's a social meetup I'd work around that and make sure I swim regardless. So, modern gaming falls in the category where I'm just not that interested getting into and there may be a lot of reasons for it but here's a few at the top of my head - 1. never-ending games ... I know how some love the fact that games just don't end but there's some closure and excitement getting to the finality of the boss stage of Contra or Metroid or Duke Nukem 3D or Doom or Castle Of Wolfenstein or King Of Fighters for instance. I can't get into multi-player games that had no real end or direction or it's endless with multiple possibilities like war-themed games of today (compared to war-themed games of old) 2. I'm here in NY and when I go to an arcade I get to play older games, which's AWESOME but it makes me think - popular games that I see you guys playing aren't in arcades, because the focus and design of the games have changed. Today's market deals with sitting at home and playing endless multiplayer games (like above point) but there's no arcade experience like an old school street fighter or king of fighters or metal slug or pac man. The fun of seeing high scores and making your mark at an arcade is just a different experience. 3. if you died in an old game, you had limited lives and it's game over. Continues allowed but still game over. I'm not talking about cheat codes. Today I see Lara Croft or the game I saw recently at a friend's home where you can die many many times and it doesn't affect you, maybe take a weapon away or level of ability or whatever but there's no end-game. It's funny cos as I type this it kinda reminds me of the education system here where schools make it a point to pass a student versus failing them for bad grades. It makes me want to see those lazy chaps in Wall-E. Maybe it's why I like Demon and Dark Souls cos it's genuinely hard like the old days and there's no cop-out like new games. 4. up, down, left, right, 4 buttons and that's it. Now you've got 10 different things to press which is really really useless to me and for me, takes away from MY gaming experience because now I'm focused on pressing the right buttons versus enjoying the game. I can't get into L1, L2 and R1, R2 and silly joysticks on both sides or either side of a controller, it's not working for me. PC gaming was fun in that regard, I'll give them that. Mouse and keyboard combo ruled. 5. Most war-games look the same, bleh. Most zombie games look the same too. All jungles or waterfalls or cities are very similar. Don't get me wrong, they're all realistic looking as hell but I feel like there's no originality in just that. Blade Runner looks different than the world we see in Total Recall or Minority Report, if that makes any sense. 6. games back then were more affordable and less intimidating from a price point. If I spend 60 bucks on a new game and don't play it, it would hurt my wallet. 7. no real music talk anymore and I think it's something I'd like to explore in the sense, I feel like there are good soundtracks out there for fantasy games but the people I've seen gaming only play war games or survival games, so there's no real opportunity for something like Zelda or FF to be heard, so no novelty because it's supposed to be all serious and gun shots etc. Funny cos we don't like violence when afflicted on ourselves but we're more than open to being super violent in a game to a point where it's celebrated (head shots, etc) ... sorry I digressed a bit in this point. I'm sure there is more but I have to run to the post office and get on with my day.

Hmmm, big post to follow (you have been warned). Whether you think it’s sad or not technology is a very big part of my life, both social and personal. It always has been and I’m pretty sure it deals a lot with me being an only child in the city. Both of my parents worked full time so when I wasn’t at Daycare I was at home watching TV (or playing with Lego’s, boy did I love my Lego’s) with my dad or watching TV on my own. I had plenty of friends growing up (and by no means did I spend all my time indoors, I loved to ride bike and hang out at the park with friends) but I suffered from a lot of anxiety when in large groups of people so I tended to stay home more than hang out with friends (I still suffer from anxiety in large groups of people but I’ve learned to cope with it, I still prefer to be alone though). It was just more natural for me to sit home and watch TV so I went with it. I also did a lot of reading as a child so my hermit ways come from that as well (still do spend a lot of time reading from books to educational stuff, nothing is off limits anymore with the internet when it comes to reading). My gaming addiction was brought about by my first babysitter/daycare. The lady who ran it used to let me play her kids Nintendo and Atari 2600 whenever I wanted to so I spent a lot of time from when I was 5 until I was 8 playing a lot of Mario and Missile Command (she’s still a very good family friend). Ever since that day I spent almost all my time playing either my Gameboy or going over to friends places to play on their consoles (heck it was one of the main reasons I went over to their places to begin with). When I got my first Playstation for Christmas one year that was it, I spent almost all of my free time outside of school and Basketball practice playing on it. Hours upon hours were spent in front of that machine (even when friends came over). When I met my best friend in sixth grade our friendship was based primarily on playing video games (not anymore mind you, we did a lot of stuff together outside of gaming but that’s how we became friends). It progressively got worse from their as newer consoles came out and I fell deeper into my addiction. Now-a-days I don’t spend as much time gaming as I used to. Between working all night and sleeping all day I rarely have the chance to put in any serious gaming on my consoles (I do play a lot of MMO’s but that’s a different story altogether). When I was first introduced to the computer I instantly fell in love and it started an addiction that I still can’t pull myself away from. It started as a mild addiction at school, back when I rushed through computer work so I could play games like Oregon Trail and Number Munchers. As I got older and the computers starting to get better as I progressed further in school it just got worse, to the point I would rush through daily assignments just so I could get the chance to get on those spiffy new iMacs the library had so I could surf the internet. In high school my parents finally broke down and bought a desktop for the house with internet access and well my addiction spiraled out of control from there. Seeing as how I got my first computer around the time Toonami started airing I had two addictions to satisfy and I found my drug in message boards and chat rooms (like AF, AP, GF, SS, etc.). These are the places I met some of the greatest friends I have to this day, though I’ve fallen out of contact with a few of them due to them moving on from their internet days (like Veggie and Anime Pimp to name a few). I eventually found AC through Cloud on GF and found myself coming here every day, if not to chat with Cammy/DX/Eppy/Drak/Anime Pimp/aqu/etc or plot the takeover of AC with Veggie and Cloud (way back in the day here people, no current plans to try a takeover (does not want a railgun shot to the face)). Hell my addiction to the internet and anime got so bad it lead to my shut-in days back in 2007 (ask Epples, he knows full well what I’m talking about. We spent many a long hour talking about anime and manga during this time (hell he nicknamed me Hikki-chan because of it)). I’m proud to say I grew out of that when I moved to Arizona for college and actually rediscovered what the real world was like again. When it comes to social media I basically ignore or have nothing to do with it. Facebook is a waste of time and I only say this after having watched my Mom spend hours upon hours on the damn site. You want to talk to me call or text my damn phone (and if I wanted to talk to you I’d of given you my number). Twitter I just use to follow my favorite bands and actors, keep up with what’s going on with them and what not. Don’t actually tweet, mostly because I have nothing interesting to tweet about, live a pretty boring life. Anything else related to social media just hasn’t come to my attention or interested me (though I did use Livejournal for quite a long while, quit using it years ago though). Honestly I have no problem with people texting or surfing the web on their phones when they're around me because I’m generally doing it myself. When I get together with friends we spend a lot of time on our phones but we still keep conversations going, not that hard to multitask. However it is an unwritten rule to keep them out of site when we’re drinking (aka out getting plastered) or eating, just rude to be playing on your phone in that setting. The only real reason I got a cell phone was for emergencies so the only real thing I use it for now is to surf the web and play the random mobile game that currently has my attention. I probably wouldn’t even have a phone if I didn’t need it for emergencies (though it came in handy when I lived in Arizona). Honestly technology and I have had a rather sorted history of addiction. I can’t live without it but I’ve mostly come to the conclusion that outside of gaming and keeping in touch with you crazy people it’s mostly just around to provide me with a distraction from the problems I face out in the real world. That’s really all it is to me now since I’ve been setting more time aside lately to read my backlog of books and to start getting back into painting/drawing (oh how I miss sitting down for long periods of time with a pencil in my hand and a sketchbook in front of me) when I’m not playing FFXIV or STO.

    Plastic to Oil

Read the article: http://ourworld.unu.edu/en/plastic-to... The Japanese company Blest has developed one of the smallest and safest oil-to-plastic conversion machines out on the market today. It's founder and CEO, Akinori Ito is passionate about using this machine to change the way people around the world think about their plastic trash. From solving our landfill and garbage disposal issues to reducing our oil dependancy on the Middle East, his machine may one day be in every household across Japan. While holding up a bag of trash, he states, "It's a waste to throw away, isn't it? This is a treasure." [ame] [/ame]

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article6835364.ece Barack Obama has called Kanye West a "jackass" for interrupting an MTV awards show to declare that the wrong person had won. The outspoken rapper was drowned out with boos at the Video Music Awards on Sunday night when he grabbed the microphone from the young country star Taylor Swift and announced that Beyonce had made a better video. Asked about the row during an interview with CNBC, President Obama appeared to sum up the national mood pretty well, albeit undiplomatically. The problem was that his remark was made during an off-the-record part of the interview which was not going to be made public. Terry Moran, an ABC reporter who was at the recording and overheard the comment, then broke the agreement by deciding to tweet it. "Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a 'jackass' for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential," he wrote. Mr Moran quickly deleted the tweet but it was too late. The Nightline co-anchor has more than a million followers on Twitter, many of whom had already re-tweeted his remarks. The network was forced to apologise to CNBC and the White House and said that it was taking steps to avoid a repeat of the incident. Meanwhile, West himself apologised once again for his outburst on an appearance on Jay Leno's new prime time talk show and said that he was going to take some time off for reflection. West said that he knew he had been wrong the moment he handed the microphone back to Swift, when he was bathed in boos from the audience. “It was rude, period,” West said. The star posted a second apology to Swift on his blog yesterday and told Leno that he wanted to apologise to her in person. West fell silent when Leno asked what his mother would have said about the incident, but finally admitted that she would have told him off. West was very close to his mother, Donda, who died in November 2007. “So many celebrities, they never take the time off,” he said. “I’ve never taken the time off to really - you know, just music after music and tour after tour. I’m just ashamed that my hurt caused someone else’s hurt." getting called a jackass by the president is an achievement LOL

Would you live in a dome?

http://dvice.com/archives/2008/08/styrofoam_dome.php Check out the pictures, they actually look decent on the inside. If you got four of them connected, you could live in a pretty good sized dome home. I wonder if you could flip one of the domes upside down, bury it to ground level and connect the top dome to it... Then you could live in a duplex sphere. I'd get one and layer dirt up the sides and on top, grow grass all over it and live like a hobbit.
