  1. Had a busy weekend. A cousin from out of state visited, another day we put a second coat of paint on our garage and the third day was all yard work. It was a nice having a 3 day weekend. I have another one coming up this weekend, but I have to replace the dip tube in my water heater, hopefully that doesn't take me all day. My water heater is in an awkward location in its own utility closet and I'll have to disconnect 3 water lines to pull it out far enough to get the tube down the top because theres a shelf over the water heater and it has no clearance. I'm sure it'll be a pain in my ass. x_x

lol one time i thought i could replace a water heater by myself after watching a 5 min tutorial vid on YT. XD make things more complicated its located in the attic. it took 3 workers almost 6 hours to install a new one. had it not for the YT "prank" guy to mention about gas leak and water tank blowing up at the last few seconds of vid, who knows what could have happened XD

thats nice having extra days off. last time i had 2 days off, i went to sea world in san antonio. ^_^ but my job sucks and i only get one day off per week,,so i was hoping hurricane laura could shift towards to the left and hit houston so i could get one extra day off LOL. XD dumb thinking bc this morning it says itll be cat 4 during landfall. hope it stays in that path between texas and louisiana border. still very close call x_x

It looks like Houston lucked out with the hurricane. Did you get really strong rain tho?

My water heater is electric and on the first floor, I've already had to drain it a couple times and replace heating elements so I have experience with it now. lol. The longest part for doing any work on a water heater is waiting for it to drain. Its a small drain spout and I swear it took like 3 hours to drain out. They hardly mention that on the YT videos. If it was a gas water heater.. I dunno, I'd probably let a pro do that. The only experience I have with gas is converting my stove from natural gas to propane and hooking up the gas line to it. That was quite the experience too. Different YT videos I watched have them getting it done in 10 minutes, took me 2 hours with my OCD. XD I did pay a guy last year to service my propane furnace and he taught me how to clean it and replace the igniter. So now I feel comfortable doing that again. Propane furnace is way less parts involved than the fuel oil furnace at my old house.

I fixed my water heater yesterday. Turned into an 8 hour job. Wtf. Also 3 trips to lowes. I drained the water heater, unhooked the water lines, replaced the dip tube, replaced the other nipple connection, then I realized I had to replace the elements again, vacuum out the calcium buildup. Pain in my ass. Unless I buy a water softener I'll have to replace my elements once a year as a maintenance job. My well water is too hard with minerals. Oh well, at least the parts are cheap. Only $28 for the 2 elements.
