  1. It was snowing just 2 weeks ago and now it's practically a heat wave with multiple days in the 80s. I got my window air conditioners in, but the outdoor support for my big one broke when I was testing it. The window I need this AC unit in is extra wide and can't support the weight of the unit so last year I used an umbrella stand with a metal fence post with a welded pipe on the top. It worked great, but the umbrella stand just not have been good for the weight and it snapped during my test.

So I spent today making a new support brace out of wood. I used a 4x4 and some scrap 1x6s I had from deck work I did last weekend. It's working good, I just need to fill dirt under the bottom of the base boards and then place some of my huge ass rocks all over the base for extra stability. It's all pressure treated wood so it should last for years.

Probably hard to tell from the pics but that's like 40-50 pounds of wood.

Its amazing how different north is from south. You won't see any window units here, probably haven't seen one since the late 80s. XD Central air is in every house and apartment complex here. It was 96 degrees here today with brutal humidity. We've been pretty lucky this year since we made it all the way to the last 10 days of May with relatively nice weather in the 70s. AC runs every day 24 hours a day for months here. basically winter season is the only time it wont cut on to maintain temp. I bet window units would be hella expensive on the power bill in this environment.

I bet it could be. Lmao. XD I'll get central AC one of these days. You'd be surprised how many people around here don't even have a window unit. They just sit on their porch sweating. Wtf. Screw temps in the 90s. XD

Window AC units will always be popular in the northeast forever tho just because of how old alot of houses are here. Many date back to 1800s times when the region was first being settled way back when. When I was house shopping I was shocked by how many were 1800s and early 1900s. Many used boiler systems for heating.. and rooms and ceilings were not consistent on a room to room basis. Central AC wouldn't work in them unless the owner paid to retro fit the entire house with new installed ductwork through the entire house to run the AC because there's only water pipes everywhere for heat. The houses in the northeast are some of oldest in the country. Alot of people kept buying and updating them over the many many years but even then I've seen way too many houses with tree trunk supports in the basements.
