I've been getting ready for spring for the last couple months and its taken up a crazy amount of my free time. We expanded our garden to be really huge last september in preparation for growing fruit and veggies. Then we decided to expand it another 6 more feet in one direction which we finally got finished last weekend. It was alot of work because our garden has an almost 6 foot tall deer fence all around it. We hammered in u-posts into the ground and attached the deer net and buried the bottom of the net so nothing will burrow under it. I should do measurements at some point to figure out its total volume. Its huge. lol.
We have 3 apple trees, 3 cherry trees, and 1 nectarine tree in there. We still have to move 3 of those trees into their permanent locations (they are only 1 or 2 year old trees so its still possible to dig them up) and we have to plant a new apricot tree in there. I prepped the two rows for veggies last month but theres alot of weed whacking to do still and plants to move. We have 4 grape vines, 4 blueberry bushes and multiple raspberry plants to move. I started a bunch of veggies from seed and those tomatoes are still in an unused bath tub in my house with a light over them getting bigger every day. I'm looking forward to getting everything planted and done so all this gardening can give me a break.

Well my dryer broke after about 15 years and multiple repairs I've done over those years. I had to buy a new dryer. So far so good. I was finally able to get my laundry done again and my bathroom no longer smells like dirty socks and febreeze.
-
had to call sears technician to fix our dryer about six months ago. he said he would be back bc he had no tools to do the job right away, waiting for that numbnut turned into a week or two, finally called someone else, turned out a freaking bird was nesting on a vent exit and that was blocking the flow or whatever. fixed it less than 15 mins. i got the hang of air drying for awhile, but back to being convenient

the sears guy kept delaying and pushed back dated schedule. i knew what he was doing. he wanted an extra cash but didn't have time from his work so he made us wait a week after another week. even if he had attempted to fix it, he already told us he was going to vacuum a vent and probably overcharged us. screw that guy.

FML my pressure tank is failing for my well. Its getting replaced next week. Getting a new whole house water filter installed too along with some new valves and safety upgrades. Props to the well company employee for giving me the tip of hooking up an air compressor to the pressure tank to put some air in the bladder to get the system gimping along until the repair work is done. I miss public water. lol.

This has been a busy summer. I'm almost looking forward to winter so I can get a break from all the lawn mowing and outside projects. Hopefully the snow blower I bought this year works good so I'll have alot of free time this winter to get caught up on things. When I've had free time I've been playing Final Fantasy X over the last 5 months and I've somehow finally hit 100 hours on it. Lol. Only took me about half a year. I still didn't beat it yet but I'm at the end game stuff now with the monster arena and omega ruins.

FML one of my window air conditioners broke today while it was 96 degrees. x_x

I got back from Ohio last night. My mom had a Remembrance Party in honor of my dad this last weekend. It was a really nice time. I'm glad I got to see so many people that knew my dad and talk to them about how he was a positive and/or great influence in their lives. The party was a bbq party too. My younger brother smoked 30 pounds of pulled pork and 20 pounds of bbq beef. I helped with the process. It was a great time.

My neighbor next door is moving so he had a full house sale over the weekend. I lucked out and bought his snowblower for $150. Its got some years of use on it, but hes kept it in amazing shape. A new gas one like this is around $800+. I hope it works great this next winter. It could save me all kinds of time shoveling.
-
I haven't been active on the site lately. My dad's health issues became much worse over the last few months and he passed away 10 days ago. I took a couple trips to Ohio during that time and I'm glad I got to spend multiple days with him before he passed. RIP dad. I miss you.

February this year has sucked with way too many single digit days of bitter cold temperatures. Thankfully tomorrow and thursday will finally be a melt day. 40s and 50s with an over night low of 40s. A large amount of this snow will finally disappear and I'll be able to walk around my yard again.

I was expecting to get that car this past weekend only to never be called by the salesperson. I called today and the car is delayed again another week. WTF. I don't know if this car is floating on one of those cargo ships off of california, or if there is just no truck driver to actually drive these cars to NY from whatever state they were manufactured. It'll be 3 months since I put a deposit down. My recommendation for anyone that needs a new car, go to 2-3 different dealerships and put a deposit down of $100 to reserve a car at each location, whichever dealership gets the car in stock first then gets the sale. I honestly wish I would have done that.

damn thats just ridiculous. 👎

I forgot to update, I got the car 9 days ago! Exactly 3 months from the date I put the deposit down. I'll have to upload some pics of it soon. I'm glad it finally came in. I was stressing my ass off with my old car since the exhaust could have broken off at almost any time. 6 days after I got the car I bought new snow tires for it. I'm all set for the winter now.

Congrats!! Yesh, upload some pics man

I'm going to get another Toyota corolla. This one will be a 2022 model and cost a little over $21,000.
-
good choice. 👍 my brother’s toyota corolla 1999 lasted me until 2013 without any major probs. my current toyota yaris 2013 is ok but back when i was purchasing it, a car salesman warned me that its a hybrid so it would be hard to get parts if it needed. over the years, getting a new tire was a pain bc it took 2 weeks to order it. but now with all these shortages idk. i do have some old spare tires in my garage though..patched up after hitting nails and stuff like that.

My 2010 Toyota Corolla has been very reliable and has lasted me 11 years now. It's definitely showing its age now and it's been having a few issues. The only major problem my car had was 4 years ago when the cars computer screwed up and started messing up the idle and thermostat. Ended up being $1,000 to fix at the time but aside from that I've only had to do regular maintenance and brakes. The yaris is a nice ride but they stopped making them in 2020.

Mosquitos here have been a bastard the last 3 weeks! Ravenous assholes that don't even care that I have deep woods off sprayed all over my body and citronella candles are burning everywhere. I even sprayed some cutter bug killing spray onto part of my yard and those bastards keep coming for every time I walk outside. x_x Its times like this that I don't mind winter because it kills every last one of them.

Damn that's got to suck. I bought some cutter bug spray today to see if that's more effective than the deep woods off.

^ did you notice your avatar is missing? O_o
yeah it does. one time during hot ass day one of store customers asked my ex coworker why i wear clothes like its winter and he told the customer i was covered in tattoo and was trying to hide it lolol 😂
maybe theres a hidden puddle of water they are breeding near your house that you missed. hope you get them. they use to lay eggs on window washing dispenser/bucket thing at work and they were crawling/swimming with mosquito worms..really nasty. couldnt spot them until i got like 1 feet close, i thought they were just hair and dirt at first.

Thanks for mentioning my avatar.. It still loads on my browser, but when I clicked on it in my profile it was busted. wtf. I think I got it fixed now. lmao @ the tatoos.
I think because we had so much rain there are small pools of water everywhere now. I'm guessing theres thousands of random little tiny cm size pools of water hidden in the mulch in our flower beds. I think the news guy said it was the third wettest July in history here. x_x

I have to get a dead tree cut down on my property. Its going to cost me $500. x_x But that doesn't include the removal. To save money I'll borrow a chainsaw from one of my friends and cut up the pieces myself. The tree is tall enough that when it eventually falls, it could hit my house, the garage, the deck, the pool (when its up for the summer) or my propane tanks so its got to come down.

ive seen youtube videos where tree cutters get killed when a tree branch snaps and somehow tangled rope drags the cutter down with it. very dangerous but they do make good money it seems, my ex coworker’s husband is a tree cutter and during summer one job earns him $500-$800 average, thats after giving his workers their share. in winter he sells firewood from trees he had cut down

Oh yeah, I've seen alot of failed tree felling videos. I'm pretty sure most of them where people getting killed, but the video just shows the tree whacking them or the person falling from a distance, not what they look like in a mess on the ground. One of my mom's friends has a son in law that was trimming a tree over the weekend. He fell 30 feet, broke 2 ribs and collapsed a lung. I think hes still in the hospital. Screw that. Thats why I paid a guy. He was here 2 hours. First he climbed the tree next to the tree he was going to cut, trimmed like 15 branches off the good tree and attached a safety line to it. He had to trim those branches because in case something happened with the dead tree he was cutting, he'd be able to do a quick latch release and swing off the dead tree over to the good tree and those branches had to be cut so he wouldn't impale himself on them in case that situation happened.

Its been a month since my root canal. I had another appointment yesterday for the rest of the work. They removed the temporary filling, xrayed it to make sure its all good, then did the permanent filling, then shaved/shaped the tooth for the crown, then imprinted my teeth/jaw line with a mold, then put on my temporary crown. Took them an hour. My new permanent crown will be ready in 2 weeks and then I'll finally be done. This root canal situation has been quite the experience. $1200 total after insurance. I have another tooth that might need one if it gets another cavity. If that happens I think I'll have that one pulled instead since its in the far back. Screw all this. x_x

Omg what a horrible string of bad luck. I hope everything starts going better for you soon. You didn't get those busted water pipes back in February did you? That would have been horrible to replace the carpeting and then have water damage. I'd get that filling fixed. It should be free since you already paid for it and they should rush you in to since they screwed up. There is also a temp filling package you can buy at pharmacies to fill in the hole in the tooth until you see the dentist again.

These over the counter temp fillings don't always have the best reviews tho.

i did feel he was kinda rushing it that day bc it was well over closing time by the time it was finished. but hes a good dentist, hes the one who did my old crown 20 years ago..and it was kinda my fault too bc he specifically told me not to pull it upward when taking a floss out. i did that multiple times (everytime i ate something) with a lot of force when it got stuck between my teeth and it popped out. but i did manage to get another appointment this friday and got it redone without paying. he seemed embarrassed about it and didnt question me how it fell off. he got into work right away, talking to me about what he was doing, making jokes and taking his time to make sure its secure etc. his wife who works there as his assistant apolgized to me so im not even upset or anything ill just be careful when flossing from now on.
fortunately there was no water pipe damage and the carpet was replaced with wooden floor. i heard all the plumbing companies were booked for two months in houston. X_x the hardest part was removing old books, cds, clothes, and furniture etc from the house before the construction started. took me 3 full weeks to get rid of all of them, even sneaking in the morning dumping trashes near local stores’ dumpsters bc i didnt want to piss off garbage men that visit twice a week lol. i didnt consider myself a hoarder but man there were lot of junks that i didnt touch for 20 something years. 0_o

I'm glad you got your crown fixed! lol @ the hoarder comment. It was like that for me too. When we bought the house and moved, the 15 years of stuff we accumulated ended up being a huge amount of stuff. We weren't hoarders, but damn its amazing how easily so much stuff can build up that we haven't used or touched in over 10 years. And I threw out alot of stuff over the year leading up to us buying a house and moving too. Its crazy how stuff just starts to blend into the background or in a basement.

One week ago my little dog Elsa had to get a surgery to remove a few bad teeth. The vet initially though it would be 2 teeth, maybe 4 max. After they did the xray they noticed she had severe bone loss in multiple parts of her jaw and the majority of her teeth had to be removed. She has 1/3 of her teeth left. The vet thinks it is a genetic issue that caused the periodontal disease to ravage her jaw the way it did. Shes been healing but its been a struggle. Very depressing week but shes over the worst of it now. Shes starting to feel like her old self but we're still trying to find a soft food she enjoys. More bad news is after we heard it was genetic, we checked our other dog Bella because they are cousins and she has 2 loose teeth in the front. Once we get some stimulus money we'll schedule xrays for her to see if her issue is as bad. Elsa had horrible breath going on as the main symptom but Bella's breath is fine. I hope she only needs the 2 little teeth removed. My poor babies.

I got a root canal today. F*ck that. Took 1.5 hours this morning. The tooth wasn't cracked so it didn't have to be pulled. But he had to cut a couple millimeters off my jaw line in between the 2 teeth so a crown could get properly mounted. The inside of my jaw looks totally jacked right now. And he accidentally cut the base of my tongue because I guess I moved it by accident. That hurts more than the jaw right now. I have a temp filling in the tooth and it the tooth looks like a square. I have to let this heal for almost a month before I can get a crown molded for it. Fml.

I hear ya. He put a bite block in my mouth so it would force it to stay open. My old dentist wanted me to go to a specialist that was a solid 50 minute drive from my house and wasn't covered by my insurance. I couldn't afford that. My insurance did cover me with aspen dental so I went to the one that was 15 minutes from my house. I hated the aspen dental I went to 10 years ago but this was a different newer location and everyone seemed much more competent. So far so good and I seem to be healing.
My jaw and tooth hurt but it's nothing compared to the initial infection that actually killed the tooth. That was a brutal 3 weeks. I couldn't let any fluid touch that side of my mouth or it'd trigger a mini migraine.
-
Oof, yea that initial infection is a bitch. My tooth literally collapsed on itself (when I was younger my mother insisted on sealants so the tooth literally decayed under the sealant until it couldn't handle anymore pressure and cracked).so when the infection hit I couldn't do anything that was hot or cold. If it wasn't room temp it was going to be intense pain. That is until I found to wonder that is Orajel, good god is that stuff amazing (for the initial 4 hours, once it wears off it's pain city all over again).
Yea, I had to go to a specialist since my dentist wouldn't do root canals. Weirded the hell out of me since I thought dentists were supposed to do them, not oral surgeons. Then again with how incompetent my dentist was it was probably for the best she didn't do it (I've since changed dentists since she decided to start her own practice and I moved to the other one who actually ran the practice she was working at. Much more competent).

Orajel only worked for me for about 20 minutes. x_x The pain screamed right through the orajel which surprised the hell out of me. I think it was because the roots of that tooth was so crazy long.

The Hobbit trilogy in 4k are completely different cuts of the movie. I had no idea. I was skimming through youtube tv the other day, put on Battle of the Five Armies in the background while I got some stuff done. Then when I sat down I figured I'd finish the movie. I put on the 4k version instead and wtf. Not only is the movie visually stunning.. I had no idea my tv could look this good. I could see every strand of hair on everyone's head and everything was so crisp I could almost tell when scenes used a green screen to film. But what really blew me away was all the extra scenes and the gore. Its like this is the R rated cut. WTF.
Bodies getting crushed, heads and limbs getting cut off and blood.. blood everywhere. WTF. And theres one extra scene where Thorin jumps on a goat and is like "I'm going to the top of Raven hill to kill that Azog bastard" and Dain says "How do you plan on getting past that army?" 6 more of Thorin's dwarves show up in the war chariot. Thorin: "We'll manage." and then theres like a 7 minutes scene of them tearing ass and mass murdering orcs on their way to Raven Hill. WTF. In the original movie, Thorin says he'll go to Raven Hill to kill Azog, the scene changes and we see Thorin and the others on some mountain goats ascending the hill. The amount of blood and gore in this new scene is brutal. I was shocked. But it was f*cking awesome.
Now I need to watch the rest of the movies in their 4k versions to see what else is new. I read the LoTR 4k versions are also getting new scenes.
-
Cool. O_o i only watched LOTR original triology. never watched anything beyond that. but im planning to watch LOTR series coming out on amazon.
"i could see every strand of hair" rotfl my first moment i noticed that was when i first tried Roku channel with TCL TV. i only watched hells kitchen with that and it wasnt even HD. so i played a movie Forever Young and i thought something was wrong with TV screen because im like whats that on their face and arms? they look fuzzy wtf..as i looked closer im like holy shit i can see their face/arm hair
and when did they convert old tv shows to 4k too? im watching little house this morning in my amazon library and picture looks amazing! BUT then why arent my old SD and HD movies automatically convert to UDH like that? kinda greedy they want full retail price for the same movies i paid for.

I know some movies will get auto AI upscaled to 4k depending on the hardware. Like the newer Nvidia Shield will upscale like that. But I guarantee whatever upscale it could do for my 1080p hobbit would be nothing compared to the remastered 4k version.
I can understand why some shows would cost more for upgraded versions. I can't find the article right now but when Star Trek The Next Generation was remastered into HD, they had to redo all the cg space and ship effects for every episode. Mainly because the upscaling process for the original cg made the entire show look like garbage with a $10 budget.

that sucks. i hope you are doing much better now. i havent gone to dentist in decades..i just try to brush em every morning. its not that im scared to go, its just too costly. only scare i had was a couple years ago when i made a habit of eating chocolate ice creams almost everyday and sometimes skipped brushing my teeth. it started hurting for two weeks straight here and there but i kept brushing like crazy to make the pain go away and luckily it did.
-
Well shit got weird for me.. in the end it was the tooth in front of the tooth I got the filling in that was causing pain. Like it was intense pain for 3 weeks. I got on antibiotics and after 5 more days it ago started feeling better. I figured it was just an infection. I kept the appointment with the specialist at my dentist and told him the good news that everything was feeling better except for some pressure sensitivity. I could even eat on that side of my face again. He looked at me worried and said he can tell what happened and he'll do some tests. So he used these mini cotton balls and used some special can of air or whatever it was to super cool the little balls. He touched them on my teeth. The ones around that tooth all yelled at me when they got touched.. that one that was painful didn't react at all. He tested it multiple times. I never felt cold on that tooth. He said the pain I felt was the root dying from infection and now the tooth is completely dead. I either need to get a root canal or an extraction because it'll eventually start rotting from the inside out and potentially start spreading that rot to my jaw and cause an abcess. Wtf. And it feels almost fine right now.
-
damn thats bad. good thing you went back to check on it. id have just ignored it after it got better x_x i did that when i had an ear infection, or when i broke my right hand. ignored it until pain got unbearable and after cast was off i just blew off appointments bc i felt better. make matters worse i went fishing a couple days later and the spot that was broken and healed had swollen to a size of golfball. and for the next two years i couldnt grip with full strength with that hand. but yeah i dont mess with something like a toothache. my stubborn coworkers refused to go see a dentist and all waited until pain spread to their jaw, ears, and head. scary stuff.
ps root canal isnt that bad from what i remember. i broke my front tooth when i was in highschool, all i remember was seeing a needle going in (felt a sharp pinch in a gum area), half of my face got numb and didnt feel anything after that. hope you get it done soon before it gets worse. 😕
-
I just renewed the SSL certificate for the first time. That was pretty straight forward. I'll update the forum software soon too. Maybe this upcoming weekend. On a side note.. dentist appointment tomorrow for a sensitivity issue with a filling or two. Damn my crappy teeth. x_x

I lucked out with slickdeals this weekend. I got a couple 2tb hard drives from Walmart for $35 each and 20 bags of garden soil for $1.50 a bag. now i have a 2tb hard drive on my ps4 and a bunch of games already redownloaded. That old 500gb hard drive was full all the time. And that dirt was the best deal. Regular $8 a bag. I got $160 of top soil for $32... only 800 pounds of dirt in my car i had to unload. my rear shocks were almost completely compressed down.
Here's the link to the Walmart hard drive deal. It varies by store if they have it in stock and on sale or not. Online its $69.99. It's an in store only clearance.

I went to Ohio to visit my family for Thanksgiving. Yes, there is covid, but we were careful. We did restaurant style rules for eating, masks on when getting plates of food, my brother's familys at their own tables all 6 foot+ away from the other tables while eating. We kept our masks on near my dad because of his immune system being compromised by the cancer treatments. Aside from that we kept the windows open to keep fresh air circulating in. We took our masks off when we'd be 6 feet away from him and each other. Its good that my mom's house is so big, the kitchen/greatroom is literally big enough to have parties of 50 people. Our handful of people was able to keep distances pretty easily. Its been 4 days since Thanksgiving and nobody is coming down with any covid symptoms so I'm guessing we did good.
It was a fun time. Alot of good memories. I hardly ever visit Ohio during winter months because of winter snow storms in NY. We lucked out and its been in the 50s and only raining off and on. I caught a ride back and forth with my cousin who now lives in NY also. He had a covid test done the day before we left which was negative and I quarantined in my house for 2 weeks leading up to the trip. I'll be quarantining again for another 2 weeks just in case, but that doesn't bother me much.

I got a new phone. Galaxy S20 FE. I bought it from best buy with an early black Friday sale. $350 with my Verizon plan. I'll pay $15 a month for it for 2 years. I just got it in the mail but I'm not going to activate it until monday when ladys phone gets here, she got the same phone except different color. I read it had a touch screen issue that was fixed with a patch. Hopefully I don't have any issues with the phone. It looks like a significant upgrade over my old galaxy s7.

i use i-blason case. in the past i dropped it like a couple times on a cement floor with no noticeable damage so its pretty sturdy. you already ordreded yours but i-blason also have a case for your galaxy s20 under $20. check it out if your other case doesnt work out. for a better cover, a tool pouch/phone holster works well too if you dont like your phone exposed when you have it clipped on to your belt or front pocket.

I might have to look into the phone holster. I was going to activate the phone today but I got it out of the case and I'm hesitant to use this thing without a case on it. My luck is horrible, if I start using this thing, I'm sure I'll drop it by accident and crack the screen. I'll just wait 4 more days for the case to get delivered first.
-
My case arrived early and I got my new phone activated. This is a huge upgrade over my s7. Way nicer camera too. Whats interesting is I looked at i-blason's website but they didn't have a galaxy s20 fe case. They have plenty of s20 cases, but the fe is a different size and none would fit. But I got my supcase cases in the mail and the return address was for i-blason. wtf. lol. I guess supcase is a company of i-blason. The case appears to be damn good quality. My phone has a protective screen on it from the manufacturer so I left that on for now. I did buy a couple film screen protectors off amazon that already arrived. I never knew there were tempered glass screen protectors until the other day. Those look decent but some people say they don't let the s20 FE thumb print scanner work correctly. I might just take this film protector off anyway because my case has a built in one anyway. I also saw some people like to use a tempered glass protector over the camera lenses, but it messes up photos unless the flash is used. I could understand using a protector, but I don't think I'll get one just for the camera lenses. My case is big enough that the camera area won't be touching any surfaces when I sit the phone down so that should be good enough.

I bought a new reciever last week to replace my broken one that died about 6+ months ago. I finally got a new hdmi cable from amazon the other day so now all my stuff is full surround sound again. Oh man I didn't realize how much I missed surround sound until I heard it in all its glory again. I love that all the receivers now have all the hdmi inputs on them and then it has an hdmi out to the tv. No more audio sync issues ever again. The only game I've tested so far is Starcraft 2. I stream it from my PC over 5ghz wifi to my nvidia shield. I love that shield, it auto recognizes its 5.1 surround and the game auto adjusts to the shields audio settings. And because SC2 is such an old game my PC has no problem playing it in 4k. So I've now played SC2 in my living room in 4k with surround sound. It's awesome. I need to try some ps4 games. I have genshin impact downloaded so I'll try that soon. Hopefully the deck work I need to do doesn't consume my entire weekend again.

I want to strangle the person and/or people who installed the deck at my house. They did everything wrong. x_x I think two more weekends of work and another $100 more in wood and hardware and I'll be done fixing its supports for this winter. They installed the deck right to the concrete blocks that act as a skirt around the house. These blocks do not provide any structural benefit to the house, its just a wall for the crawl space.. but these blocks are just stacked on each other and stucco'd so it all looks like a normal basement wall.. well the deck settled over the years and caused the back wall to start collapsing.
These idiots didn't connect the deck hardware correctly and they had the far support beam that all the joists are connected to attached to those blocks.. Because the hardware wasn't secured the board bowed outwards into those blocks causing them to shift.. the weight of those blocks pulled on the board more and the issue compounded itself. So could I just jack up that board? Nope.. because I had to reinforce the corners and connect all the joists to that board first or the entire back of the deck would collapse. And its a big deck, 1,000+ pounds of wood. I fixed the corner, added support pieces, disconnected the concrete blocks from the wood, used these beefy ass clamps that I bought from Lowes to pull the board back into place and secure it to the joists with structural exterior screws.. and now I have to add 3 new 4x4 supports to distribute the weight away from that wall. Pain in my ass. I'm glad I have my 3 ton jack from when I used to do car work. That jack can lift any part of this deck no problem which has been very helpful during these repairs.
Turns out that entire back beam was being secured to all the rest of the wood of the deck with only 10 nails and 4 screws. I can understand cutting corners to save money, but holy f*ck that was dangerous. And deck hardware is expensive as hell. I've dropped $100 easy on 4 boxes of different screws, nails and structural screws. Those structural screws are just over $1 a piece. It all adds up quick. After last weekend that board and the corner its attached to is now connected with 40 additional screws and 14 structural screws. Thats no even counting all the extra nails I put in on the corresponding opposite ends of all the joists. Each joist hanger is supposed to have 8 nails, four 1 1/2 nails and four 3 inch nails. These jack asses used 2 small nails for each joist hanger and literally set all the joists in them without connecting them.. all that weight just free floating. The only thing keeping them all in place was the deck boards we walk on on the top.. of course all of those deck boards were only connected with 4 screws each instead of 8 or 12 depending on the length of the boards. So when I was doing all the work, I had to leave those top deck boards in place to keep everything together while I crawled under there, only a 2 foot clearance, and did all that work. wtf.
