I just looked at Verizon's and their broad band router is sold as an add on to the account using the plan's data allotment, but it says it only has a 5-12 mbps connection with 2 up. Thats pretty weak.. If anything my cell phone itself might have a faster connection by turning on the device's mobile hot spot.

I still have a grandfathered unlimited plan, but I'm pretty sure after 2-4 gigs they start throttling me. I rarely go over 2 gigs though.

A coworker of mine was grandfathered into an unlimited verizon plan but if I remember correctly, Verizon changed the terms of its upgrade program so that if you wanted discounted or free phones you'd have to change to the new plan structure.
