  1. Think gas prices are high? Try $11 in Turkey Cars drive to a petrol station advertising: "Low Prices", in Anglet, southwestern France, Wednesday, May, 28, 2008. Consumers, gas retailers and governments are wrestling with a new energy order, where rising oil prices play a larger role than ever in the daily lives of increasingly mobile world citizens. But consider France, where a gallon of petrol runs nearly $10. Or Turkey, where it's more than $11. Drivers around the world are being pummeled by the effects of record gas prices. And now some are hitting back, staging strikes and protests from Europe to Indonesia to demand that governments do more to ease the pain. It's a growing problem in a world that's increasingly mobile and more vulnerable than ever to the cost of crude oil, which is racing higher by the day and showing no signs of stopping. Story continues below ↓ advertisement "I don't know why it is, but ... it hurts," said Marie Penucci, a violinist who was filling up her Volkswagen to the tune of $9.66 a gallon at an Esso station on the bypass that rings Paris. As she pumped, she looked wistfully at a commuter climbing onto one of the city's cheap rental bicycles, an option not open to her since she travels long distances to perform. As oil soars, the effect on drivers can vary widely. Taxes and subsidies that differ from nation to nation are the main reasons, along with limits in oil refining capacity and hard-to-reach places that drive up shipping costs. In Europe and Japan, for example, high taxes have made drivers accustomed to staggering gas prices. As a result, plenty of European adults never even bother to learn to drive, preferring cheap mass transit to getting behind the wheel. Those who do drive are still testing new pain thresholds. And it would be worse in Europe if the strong euro weren't cushioning the blow. On the other hand, in emerging economies such as China and India, government subsidies shield consumers. But that still means governments themselves have to find a way to afford the soaring market prices for oil. Increasingly, people around the world are reaching the boiling point — and it's not just drivers. Fishermen in Spain and Portugal began nationwide strikes Friday, keeping their trawlers and commercial boats docked at ports. In Madrid, demonstrators handed out 20 tons of fish in a bid to win support from the public. In Spain, European Union's most important producer of fish, the fishing confederation estimates fuel prices have gone up 320 percent in the past five years — so high many fishermen can no longer afford to take their boats out. French fishermen and farmers, who need fuel for trawlers and tractors, say their livelihoods are threatened by soaring prices and have blocked oil terminals around France and shipping traffic on the English Channel to demand government help. British and Bulgarian truckers are staging fuel protests, too. Indonesians are staging their own protests against shrinking gasoline subsidies in a nation where nearly half the population of 235 million lives on less than $2 a day. The world is driving more than ever: There are 887 million vehicles in the world, up from 553 million just 15 years ago, according to London consultancy Global Insight. It estimates the figure will be 1 billion four years from now. In Europe, the high tax burden means crude prices make up a smaller part of the retail cost of gas. "The pain of a rise in prices is much less in Europe, because we may be paying a lot more here, but the rise in a percentage sense is a lot smaller," said Julius Walker, oil analyst at the Paris-based International Energy Agency. The United States, with its relatively low taxes, is considered to have retail prices closer to what energy data charts call the "real cost" of gasoline — closely linked to the price of oil. So as oil prices have soared, U.S. gas prices have soared along with them. Prices for regular unleaded gas have risen from $1.47 a gallon in May 2003 to more than $3.96 now, a jump of nearly 170 percent. In the same period, the most popular grade of gas in France rose by just over 90 percent — a relatively gentle climb. Americans are driving less — about 11 billion fewer miles in March 2008 than March 2007, a drop of about 4 percent, according to the Schork Report newsletter. It was the first drop in March driving in almost three decades. In the U.S., presidential candidates John McCain and Hillary Rodham Clinton have proposed suspending the federal gas tax for the summer to give drives some help, although it is not clear whether drivers would actually see much relief. French President Nicolas Sarkozy has urged the EU to cut its value-added tax on fuel. Nations that produce huge amounts of oil aren't necessarily in better shape. Russia is the world's second leading producer of oil, but gas there comes to about $3.68 a gallon — about the same as in the United States, where workers earn about six times as much money. Much of the Russian cost comes from taxes, which run between 60 and 70 percent. Limited refining capacity and the costs of transporting gasoline across the country's vast expanse also push up prices. Turkey faces similar problems. It costs $11.29 a gallon there, meaning filling up the tank of a midsize car can reach nearly $200 — enough to give up on driving and buy a domestic plane ticket. It's not that bad everywhere. In China, government-mandated low retail gas prices have helped farmers and China's urban poor but, in a country struggling with pollution, also have hurt conservation. The Chinese used about 5 percent more gas in the first four months of this year than last. And in Venezuela, long-held government subsidies and bountiful supplies have made the people think of cheap fuel as a birthright. It's a veritable wonderland for gas guzzlers — 12 cents a gallon. Consumers there are snapping up SUVs. For solutions to the oil crisis, policymakers in less oil-rich nations are looking to Brazil, where ethanol made from sugar cane is widely available to the nation's 190 million people. Eight out of every 10 new cars sold there are flex-fuel models that run on pure ethanol, gas or any combination of the two. Ethanol in Sao Paulo is running about half the price of gas, which is $5.67 per gallon. But those examples are definitely the exception. "It's been tough. I had to switch to regular gasoline from premium class," said Hiroyuki Kashiwabara, a Japanese worker whose monthly spending on gasoline has increased by nearly $100 over the last couple of months alone. "My salary doesn't change and I can't cut back on my spending on food or anything else." Jean-Marc Jancovici, a French engineer and co-author of a philosophical treatise called "Fill It Up, Please!" despairs over the developing world's rising thirst for shrinking oil resources. His answer? To rich consumers, at least, he says: Pick up your bike and "stop being petroleum slaves." ___ Associated Press writers David Nowak in Moscow; Robin McDowell in Jakarta, Indonesia; Ian James in Caracas, Venezuela; Alan Clendenning in Brasilia, Brazil; Joe McDonald in Beijing; Mari Yamaguchi and Shino Yuasa in Tokyo; Ashok Sharma in New Delhi; and Franziska Scheven and A.J. 2. It's so hard for me to suck it up, smile and knod when my daughter says "my daddy is so cool". He is better now than he was but I don't understand why he changed for the better after I left. Why couldn't he be a dad when I was with him? He didn't want to do anything other than smoke pot and drink beer, than hang out with his daughter. I would NEVER say that to my munchkin but still. Everyone thinks he's father of the year. Would being totally wasted count as having your kids out of love..LOL? I mean we were rather passionate that time. So sad how I remember the day I got pregnant with both my kids.
  3. My inlaws wanted grandkids and they always asked us. I don't think it was stupidity..but it sure wasn't for love of my ex. I thought he would stick around if I had his kid (that young idiot mind set that I had). He may be gone, but I don't regret having my daughter.
  4. Thank you Lady, and yes those ideas crossed my mind..LOL Well, I asked him alright and he said the videos were from a meamory card he had for his old camera that was destroyed/stolen from the truck in the accident. A lot of stuff he ahd was stolen from the accident. I talked to my computer tech guy who works on the computer systems for the jails and the city about the dates n stuff. He said that the created date could be the date that the items were created onto the computer, and if he moved them onto the desk top to be deleted like he said then the modified date would reflect that. Not all computers log the date that something was created and each camera has different software. After I had some time to calm the hell down, I do remember that day of the 26th because that was day that the new bed was delievered. I was on the phone with him that afternoon probably at that time and I do remember him saying that he was trying to delete old files and pictures he feels he didn't need or want. Plus, my husband has lost a lot of weight since I met him 2 years ago. He used to have quite a little pop belly, which I noticed he was a little porker in this video. He dosn't have that belly now, and that confused me. I pretty much refused to listen to him till I had my computer guru chat because I was pissed. However, I am going still to see him and his family on Saturday and I havn't been lied to yet by him. Infact I looked real dumb the last time something like this went down. Hubby dosn't blame me for being pissed, and neither does his family. I have my own xxx photos but damn their on a disc somehwere not on the desktop where he can see. Geez! Though now that I think about it I do remember him asking me to delete that folder b cuz it had previously married to me pics that he didnt feel he needed to keep anymore. Still, what a careless doof hubby is. If I wasn't pregnant and by myself right now I wouldn't have tripped out. Why the hell would you make a video like that anyway? It was rather painful to watch.
  5. Wow people sure are stupid. If you are going to cheat don't leave the evidence where I can find it. I uploaded my photos from my phone last night onto the main computer which by the way I havn't touched since my husband has been gone May6th. The pics got saved to the wrong folder. When I looked in the folder there for me to see were 2 videos of my husband, one of him getting head from some bitch. I figured they may be old..BUT the day that it was put on the computer was May 2nd and the date the computer says it was created was April 25th which was a Saturday. Therefore I was with my daughter, in another town, 2 hours away. Explain that shit. Not to mention numerous pictures taken by his phone of some dark haired girl, that was different than the video, that was takn a few days before. I called and left a message for my husband and at this point he is going to have a hard time covering this up because it's him for sure in the video, and each picture has a date when it was taken. So..yeah I am a tad pissed off right now. Any suggestions?
  6. I don't know what baby does in there at night... And yes, I have this feeling he is going to be a trouble maker..or he will be the most mellow baby in the world. I'm hoping he gets all his thrashing about done now because when he is here he is getting wrapped up like a burrito aka the famous baby swaddle. Yes, My daughter has a baby brother Via my ex and his GF. He is a year now and my daughter LOVES being a big sister. She talks about her baby brother ALL the time. The weekends are her days with me and I don't plan on changing that. I am hoping that my hubby can get weekends off or at least one day off during a weekend so he can hang out with baby and I can have special time with just me and my daughter.
  7. So very true..I'm not part of that 80 percent. I'm nice to cashiers and food service people because I have been on the other end.
  8. I totally understand. And that's why you have baggers. But when you are alone and your bagger fails to bag or put groceries in the basket then..I guess it falls on the cashier?? All stores are different in this policy or whatever. HOWEVER it's fucking people like him who can't pay attention who blame others for their problems. Could be a result of his poor childhood and not having to except personal responcibility. He was just being a dick and wanted someone to take the fall for his stupidity. If he comes back and gets in your line, ring him up, bag him up and get him the hell out of your hair. If he still complains, then let your manager know when he comes in the store and have a manager there to witness his lack brain power.
  9. Holy cow my playstation, computer and flat screen waste alot of power. I have them hooked up to a surge protector, so when I am home or using them, I turn it off. It saves me like $2.50 a day. I have this power box thing that tells me how much I use everyday and I recharge it with a card. So I put money on the box each month. It kinda helps us budget and keep track of how much power we use.
  10. So, went and saw the doc on friday. I got to bring my daughter along this time. She was excited to hear baby brother's heartbeat. Cute:happy: I am 24 weeks (6months) and the doctor calls him a 'busy baby' since he moves ALOT. I don't know what he does in there some days. Move furniture? Taebo? I wonder..Some days all his moving around wakes me up so I don't have a set schedule on sleep. I like to think he is prepairing me for when he will be here, and that wonderfull baby sleep schedule. The cool thing is I gained a total of 8 pounds so far. With my daughter I gained double that by 6 months..I was HUGE! The nausea is still here. Some days are better than others, and certain smells or images (like fish, and it's texture..yuck) make me puke. No charlie horses (leg cramps) however my legs swelled up the other day and I had no ankles. It's exciting for me this time around. I am enjoying my last pregnancy (no more babies after this one). Just thought I would pop in with an update.
  11. That's a bummer to hear about indy..though omg that dragon wars was the worst thing I have seen yet. Not to mention that we bought it brand new $25 special edition because It looked good on the preview. That was the last movie I was allowed to pick out..LOL

Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices ruled 4-3 in an opinion written by Chief Justice Ron George. Outside the courthouse, gay marriage supporters cried and cheered as news spread of the decision. Story continues below ↓ advertisement "Our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation," the court wrote. The city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples and gay rights groups sued in March 2004 after the court halted San Francisco's monthlong same-sex wedding march. "Today the California Supreme Court took a giant leap to ensure that everybody — not just in the state of California, but throughout the country — will have equal treatment under the law," said City Attorney Dennis Herrera, who argued the case for San Francisco. Live Vote! Do you agree or disagree? Coalition to challenge The challenge for gay rights advocates, however, is not over. A coalition of religious and social conservative groups is attempting to put a measure on the November ballot that would enshrine laws banning gay marriage in the state constitution. The secretary of state is expected to rule by the end of June whether the sponsors gathered enough signatures to qualify the marriage amendment, similar to ones enacted in 26 other states. If voters pass the measure in November, it would trump the court's decision. California already offers same-sex couples who register as domestic partners the same legal rights and responsibilities as married spouses, including the right to divorce and to sue for child support. But, "Our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation," Chief Justice Ron George wrote for the court's majority. Click for related content View California Supreme Court ruling (pdf) Newsvine: Join the conversation In a dissenting opinion, Justice Marvin Baxter agreed with many arguments of the majority but said the court overstepped its authority. Changes to marriage laws should be decided by the voters, Baxter wrote. Massachusetts is now the only U.S. state to allow gay marriage. Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Vermont permit same-sex civil unions that grant largely the same state rights as married couples but lack the full, federal legal protections of marriage. "I respect the court's decision and as governor, I will uphold its ruling," said Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in a statement. "Also, as I have said in the past, I will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this (ruling)." :rotfl:Welcome to being a new parent. You gain a tolerance for it. On the bright side: It's worse if you have to change the diaper on a old person. They poop and vomit more.
  16. :complain:My ex is a master of non emotion and selfish antics:mad2:. Arguing with him sparks way more headache for both me and my daughter, since she repeats what she hears. I always get the holidays since they both work in the food industry. My ex, his gf and I hung out together on Easter for like an hour and then they went to work. I got her on my birthday and we split christmas. I had her x mas eve. I can be SOMEWHAT sympathedic to how he never gets a whole day with my daughter and sunday is the least busiest day for them. On a positive side, I do get to avoid crowds on Saturday and spend a whole day with her. This is the one holiday that is for ME and I am offended he pulled this crap. Oddly though his GF did call me today to ask me if I was having a baby shower and how she could help. A year ago we were at each other's throat? :tdown:BOO on my ex for pulling this shit, but I will need him in the future since I will have to take time away from traveling to see my daughter aftr baby is born (it's a 2 hour drive for me to see her each weekend) And he is to damn selfish to bring her to me. My ex fucking amazes me. Though he won't have say for long because his daughter has no problem telling him how it is. And it only will get better the older she gets. Karma is a bitch.
  17. So, My daughter's dad has made the choice for everyone (which did not include my opinion) that my daugter is spending Mother's Day with him and his gf. Since he "NEVER gets a day off with his family". Lucky for me I get Saturday with her, but he is such an emotionless control freak. I can't believe he wouldn't ask me about this. The last couple holidays easter and christmas I had say so wtf? I guess I can understand since Sunday is the least busiest day for him, and he really never gets a whole day with ALL the kids (they have 3 in the house). So maybe I shouldn't be so pissed...but I still feel that he should have at least asked me instead of telling me. What do u think? Should I be Pissed or am I over reacting?

The body of the 52-year-old woman was found in a shed near her mother's mobile home Thursday morning in Tarpon Springs, about 20 miles northwest of Tampa. Police said in a statement that she left a suicide note, but they did not disclose its contents or how she killed herself. Police did not immediately have additional comment when reached by telephone. Her attorney, Preston Burton, did not return a telephone call and e-mail message. Story continues below ↓ advertisement Palfrey, known as the "D.C. Madam," was convicted April 15 by a federal jury of running a prostitution service that catered to members of Washington's political elite, including Sen. David Vitter, R-La. She had denied her escort service engaged in prostitution, saying that if any of the women engaged in sex acts for money, they did so without her knowledge. She was convicted of money laundering, using the mail for illegal purposes and racketeering. But the trial concluded without revealing many new details about the service or its clients. Vitter was among possible witnesses, but did not take the stand. Palfrey faced a maximum of 55 years in prison and was free pending her sentencing July 24. Prosecutors said Palfrey operated the prostitution service for 13 years. Vitter, a first-term senator who is married and has four children, has acknowledged being involved with Palfrey's escort service and has apologized for what he called a "very serious sin." But he avoided commenting further. Besides Vitter, the trial also concluded without the testimony of military strategist Harlan Ullman or Randall Tobias, a former senior State Department official. Both men had been named among possible witnesses. One of the escort service employees was former University of Maryland, Baltimore County, professor Brandy Britton, who was arrested on prostitution charges in 2006. She committed suicide in January before she was scheduled to go to trial. Last year, Palfrey said she, too, was humiliated by her prostitution charges, but said: "I guess I'm made of something that Brandy Britton wasn't made of." 20. I didn't hate it, I just thought it was cheezy crap. Good for a laugh though.
  21. Tuesday night was movie rental night. I picked Michael Moore's "Sicko" and hubby picked Shoot Em Up since we both wanted to see it in the theatre. Thank god I we skipped the $9.00 ticket price because it would have been a serious waste! Is it just me or do I have terrible luck with movies lately? :tdown:First of all, The preview did not mention any baby yet the whole movie was about this baby. Basically this guy Smith (played by the rather attractive Clive owen) is sitting on a bench drinking a cup of coffee and eating a carrot. The carrot joke follows through out the whole movie. This pregnant woman in a yellow dress hobbles by chased by a guy with a gun. From there it becomes a crazy shoot out and Smith gets stuck with a baby boy (he later names it Oliver). This other guys starts chasing him for the baby (some bone marrow harvesting thing they later find out about). I dunno, I was laughing so hard through it I failed to pay much attention. The shoot outs are kinda cool, but the whole movie is WAY off with the baby thing. Ok, so baby is born and Smith hooks up with some chick for breast milk? But half way in the movie she is feeding him baby food? Um...I don't remember my daughter eating baby food right after she was born. Not to mention the lame ass baby food sex scene. I'm sorry but if someone stuck a finger of big ass nasty glob of pea mush in my face, I would NOT be licking it off that finger and throwing myself on top of them for sweaty sex in a dirty ass room. Through out the whole movie smith is holding this baby during these shootouts and everyone manages to not shoot him or the baby. The dumbest shootout for me was in the park when baby was on one of those merry-go-round things and smith shoots it so it spins and the bad guy can't shoot the baby. Magically baby never slides off that speedy spinning thing. However when I rode on one as a kid, I managed not only to get rather sick, but busted my ass a few times accidently letting go and flying right off. Must be a super baby with some mad skills. Oh, and the bullet milk shake thing at the end was too fucking stupid for me. It exploded the cup but didn't hit the fat man who was holding it to his fat face slurping it down. Positives? 1.) Clive Owen looked hot 2.) The chick who played Donna (Monica Bellucci) was very sexy (for all you guys out there who won't be rushing to rent it for sexy Clive owen) 3.)The soundtrack was decent, though the songs were poorly used in the scenes, adding to my tears of laughter. All in all this movie, in my opinion, was rather lame. So lame, it was funny. ;It makes Troma Ville movies (Toxic Advenger, Class of Nuke em high Etc..) look like Academy Award winners. Hell, Llyod Kaufman could have done better with this flick and won an Academy Award for it' this movie was that bad. LOL. Save yourself the trouble and sit this one out.
