  1. Guilty pleasure - watched this in the background - all of it. Not sure why. It felt like the story dragged, it was predictable, etc. but if you're a Sci-Fi fan and you dig good special effects/ production, this sets a decently high bar. I think if I was a kid in school, I'd dig the show A LOT MORE because as an adult, I can't ... just can't.

  2. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this too. It wasn't a waste of time and you're right - S1 is all about world building and the hope for S2 is that they can push the story forward. Good cast, production and overall storytelling so far. I have not played the game(s) or read the book(s).

  3. Sledge, if you don't watch this I'M NEVER SPEAKING WITH YOU AGAIN!

Okay, now that we have that joke out of the way, check out The Expanse. I've heard folks say it's like Game Of Thrones x Battlestar Galactica.

To be frank, it's a show I tried to watch and abandoned after 2 episodes but got back to watching and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's really good, complex and isn't all glitz-glam 'lets wow them with space fights' sort of thing. A good story is the backbone of the show.

I'd recommend watching it with sub-titles ON because there are a few languages/ accents that are hard to understand. Get past the first 3-4 episodes of S1 and you're through to more fun things. S1 is world building, so it can be overwhelming.

  4. If you're asymptomatic, you won't get Covid or even know that you have it, but you'll pass it on to someone else. Wearing a mask is good, even if you're vaccinated, if you're in close vicinity to someone else or a group of people like if you were on a bus or train with closed windows. Wearing a mask or getting vaccinated is also more to do with the safety of people around you - if you're absolutely immune or sure you'll never get Covid.

  5. Looking at the topic headers in this section is just ... ouufff, from 'Banana in a pizza?' to 'dead classmates?' ... you're toying with our heartstrings here, slippers!

I only know of one of my batchmates that died of a heart attack. I met him for an evening when he came to New York with his wife on a US holiday tour. He was one of the good guys, we used to play cricket a lot cos he lived in the neighboring apartment complex. What's sad is that his wife was pregnant when he died. What's also sad is that he had a younger brother, who also passed away 3/4 years prior to him passing away - suspected homicide or at least the family thinks his brother's wife pushed him off a high rise apartment floor - some 16/17 floors in Singapore. That's just life. The parents must be devastated.

  6. My wife's been enjoying the reboot of the show a lot, re-watches it on and off. There's something about it that I can't get into ... maybe it's nostalgia of the older show and the soundtrack - always a big factor for me. It's like the reboots of HxH or FMA - I could never get into the reboots as quick as I got into the older anime for em cos of the same reason. Weak soundtracks/ no memorable tunes, which is fine by itself but not fine when I have something to compare against. Sigh. Picky picky picky.

  7. I love that they actually listened to feedback on the last 2 movies and worked on showing more fights without occasionally cutting to the human element/ story. This movie was dumb and awesome. Very enjoyable and I'm so pissed I wasn't able to get vaccinated in time to catch it at an IMAX near me.

  8. Very satisfying and I was not expecting it to be good at all. I think that's what surprised me the most. I actually didn't like the ending or the fight sequence because the narrative felt rushed. Maybe if they fleshed it out more, it would've been cool but there's something about the direction it took that was jarring next to all the other episodes. Great build up though. And coincidentally, I watched The Truman Show last week - what a cool movie.

  9. Lets face it - the story sucked, script sucked, there was no actual tournament (although I get that it's a setup for the sequel that's happening), nobody to stay invested in emotionally or feel for any of the characters, not that great special effects and bad fighting angles. But, I still watched it - twice - for the heck of it and nostalgia haha. But if I'm being honest with myself, this was very forgettable.

  10. I don't think I ever got cable TV when I moved here, so it's been what ... 15ish years? My current streaming goes through Apple TV and here's what I have -

    YouTube

    YouTube TV

    HULU

    HBO MAX

    Crunchyroll

    Disney+

    Amazon Prime

    Netflix

I feel like I'm forgetting an app or two aka subscription service we pay for. Also, I just realized that listing these seems like having a lot and paying for a lot. Whichever accounts allow you to share/ have different profiles is how I have it currently set up - to the max profiles legally allowed. So overall, we're paying a fraction of the total subscription cost.

  11. Simple question - why didn't we see a force ghost in action in the original OR the prequel trilogies? Yoda, Palpatine, Ben or Doku or Windu could've done it during the Clone Wars or other places. I don't buy the weak argument that "Oh it takes a toll on ones body and they die from using it".

  12. The movie tried to be funny and I'll admit I liked Flash's treatment cos it reminded me of the new Spiderman treatment but outside of that, all the other jokes fell flat. They tried to make it a Marvel like movie but it failed. It's one of the rarest times I wish Snyder completed it instead of Whedon.
