  1. Just got done trying out the Hawken release for PS4, gotta say its fun as hell. Still learning the game but I find it more enjoyable to play with a controller then I did with a mouse and keyboard in the PC Alpha release. Definitely going to be playing quite a bit of this going forward (just need to get 98,000 HC to get the sharpshooter mech).

I believe the download was 4.9 gigs, didn't get a chance to look at how much space it took installed.

Well I learned an important lesson today while playing, teamwork is a massive part of this game especially considering how mechs are set up (they must of dumbed the game down considerably from its original launch as there is no way to really customize mechs that I can see beyond appearance. I remember in the Alpha that we were able to customize weaponry but I don't see it on this version of the game (which sucks, some mechs are awesome but have shit weaponry)). I'm surprised how well a coordinated team can wipe the floor with the other team if they work together (and this is in Team Deathmatch, I haven't even tried the other game modes yet). One of my matches consisted of me getting the only kill and spending most of the match watching myself and my teammates getting destroyed left and right (I will say some of the death animations are hilarious). Of course this game also favors those who have unlocked the stronger, heavy mechs (Assault mechs just get the asses handed to them as they have no long range weaponry). I really can't wait to unlock the first sharpshooter mech so I can start wiping the floor with people (I was wrong it's only 9800 HC (I'm only 1300 away from it), the upgraded version is 25,000 HC).

If you do start playing I highly suggest doing the tutorial first (the first one, the other two if you want to get practice in but the game is pretty good at matching you with others around you're Pilot level). It does an excellent job of teaching you the controls and the basics of the game (it does, however, not teach you effective gun ranges as the mech you use is a Type-B (mid-range mech) with mid-long range weapons (like I said if you unlock the Assault mech you're in for a rude awakening as it's a CQB mech). I highly suggest reading the descriptions of the guns on the mechs you might want to unlock so you know their effective ranges and also pick up the free PS+ mech they have in the store, it's a Type-A mech (light weight) with seeker missiles for both weapons but only unlocks at rank 5 I believe).

Cool. I'm going to try it but I don't know how much time I'll put into it. I'm trying to get thru some of my backlog of games. I'll get a new graphics card soon (assuming I can buy one before they go out of stock) and once that happens I have a crap ton of pc games to play on max settings.

  2. Looks like I get to play the For Honor beta this weekend, just got my code today. Can't wait, if only I didn't have to work Friday (this overtime shit is getting old).

I'm glad there is AI fighting in this or I probably wouldn't be interested. I'll watch some videos later tomorrow. Sounds very enjoyable. :D

Meh, I didn't really get another chance to put much time into the beta again after my initial time (I did play a few rounds of Dominion again but it was Player vs. A.I. so not much to add). I did unlock Orochi and try her out, she's not bad but definitely not my play style. She's too squishy and I just don't like her play style. Not to mention she's so much weaker then the Warden it's not funny (her attacks don't do as much damage but she makes up for it in other ways). I will say I mastered the play style of the Warden though and am a force to be reckoned with when I play her (at least for the A.I., never did get a chance to play against other players), went on a 10 player kill streak in the last match I played (again A.I. players).

Overall with the little time I put into it I'm certainly intrigued by it. I might drop the money on it when it releases on the 14th as it's enjoyable enough but with Horizon coming out next month as well I'll have to see how funds are doing (all this overtime is helping but I'm, once again, trying to save up for a new computer). If you get a chance once it releases I'd say give it a shot if you got the chance, see if you like it (I don't mean go out and buy it of course but if a friend gets it try it out). As I said the combat isn't exactly easy to master but once you start to get the hang of it it's extremely enjoyable. All in all if I'd say this is a solid 7/10 just based on the beta alone.

With the way alot of recent games have dropped in price within the first 2-3 weeks of release I recommend holding off initially. I'll watch some streams of it when it comes out, or at least a couple youtube videos of the campaign to see if its got a decent plot to go with the great combat mechanics. So many games seem to have great promise over the last couple years but then fall flat with plot or progression. :crap:

  3. Red Mage and now Samurai are confirmed as the two jobs for the upcoming FFXIV expansion Stormblood. I am completely hyped about this now and Samurai is going to be a DPS this time around (Sam was a tank in FFXI), god I can't wait. Finally a job I've been wanting since the game released (besides Ninja which I already play as). The only bad thing is I'm torn about which one I want to level first.

    1. DeathscytheX

      DeathscytheX

XD So now you have to work on a whole new set of fancy weapons?

    2. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

XD Only if I hate myself and wish for no free time what so ever (I mean if I really wanted to I could work on the Anima weapons for my Scholar, Summoner, Dragoon (which I might, I mean I have a little over 4 months before Stormblood releases and that lance is sexy as hell), Monk, Bard, Machinist, and White Mage but I don't feel like selling the rest of my soul to FFXIV atm (and sadly that's not all the jobs in game atm those are just the ones I have at 60 (I'm missing Paladin, Warrior, Dark Knight, and Astrologian)).

Chances are pretty high I'll end up continuing to main Ninja so I'll only have to worry about one weapon but with the changes they're making to the relic system in Stormblood I might not even attempt to get one (they're linking it with an new optional area called Eureka The Forbidden Land (FFV anyone?) and if it's like they're talking I'll probably skip the relic this time around, I'm not hip on their exploratory areas and it sounds like they're going to make this one even more difficult to get). However if Samurai is everything I want it to be I might switch mains over and get myself a super sexy Katana relic or if it's not and Red Mage is better then I guess I'll be getting a sexy as hell Rapier. God I hate it when I get two things I really want and don't know which one to choose first x.x I almost wish they'd of released a job I have no interest in so I could focus on the other one. Damn you SE *shakes fist*

Cyan was probably my favorite samurai in any final fantasy game.

  4. Sigh, after watching so many live streams of Total War: Warhammer over the last two days I totally want to buy it (even though I've never had any interest in Warhammer before). Sadly my laptop would probably kill itself (which is why I never bought Shogun 2) and I can't afford it due to that whole being jobless thing going on.

    1. DeathscytheX

      DeathscytheX

Its visually epic I'll give them that. I haven't played a RTS game since Warcraft 3. I'm so behind the overall learning curve, I doubt I'll ever get into one like I could another MMO or FPS.

    2. Sledgstone

      Sledgstone

      I just skimmed thru a couple videos of the gameplay and watched the trailer. There are so many troops on screen at one time it makes SC2 look small in scale. XD The game looks great, but it looks almost overwhelming to me. ^_^;

  5. Sigh, I actually had to break down and get a FunimationNow account because half the shows I was planning on watching on CR got pulled yesterday (and I didn't actually realize Funi had the license). Going to go broke if this shit keeps happening >.<

    1. DeathscytheX

      DeathscytheX

I figured this was going to happen. Content wise I figured CR was getting the most benefit from the deal. I guess they thought taking a gamble that people will sub because of lost content was more valuable than free content from cross licensing.

    2. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

Honestly I didn't lose much is this split. I'm just sad I have to spend $6 a month just to watch the shows I had planned on watching since CR had them (like Chrono Crusade and Time Travel Girl) and I can't afford to buy them/take a chance on not liking them. Once I watch the 8-10 shows I had planned on I will be ditching the Funi account because, in all honesty, CR has much more to offer me then Funi ever will since I watch subtitled anime exclusively (plus CR has, with few exceptions, had most of the simulcast licenses for years). Plus CR didn't lose everything, only stuff they have actual physical releases for before putting them up for streaming (like the aforementioned titles). They still have the streaming rights to shows like Saga of Tanya the Evil, One Piece, Dragonball Super, My Hero, Attack on Titan, and etc.

Honestly everyone kinda loses out but I do agree CR got the raw end of the deal if you were using it for Funi sub titles exclusively but for those like me it really wasn't much of a loss. I'm just glad I got to finish watching Heat Guy J before this happened (well I would of watched in on Funi I guess but I'm just glad I got it watched before hand).

  6. Since the BF1 servers were down yet again tonight (fucking christ DICE/EA, get your shit together) I finally beat the Tanker storyline of the campaign. I have to say if the other 5 are anything like it I'm in for a treat. This is by far one of the best campaign stories I've played for a BF game since the original Bad Company. Good lord that was fun as hell and the spark plug mission was great (I fucked with the Germans so hard it wasn't even funny).

    1. DeathscytheX

      DeathscytheX

The Tank and Pilot missions were both 5 sections, but the pilot mission probably was shorter since it was faster paced, with less boots on the ground. Hell, Lawrence of Arabia probably took me longer since I opted to stealth as much as possible. I'm going to have to go back and try to get some more codex, some of those skins you can get from SP are pretty sweet.

    2. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

The Lawrence one sounds like fun, can't wait to give it a try (maybe this weekend if I get time). I originally tried to do the spark plugs mission the stealthy way but sadly I ran out of silenced sniper rifle ammo and the Germans caught on quickly that someone was killing them. So I picked up a normal sniper and started killing them left and right, loud and proud. Sadly the AI wasn't exactly that smart as everyone in the area came looking for me (and one damn near killed me with a field gun). It took them 10 minutes to figure out I was wiping them out from one of the windmills which was when the field gunner decided to flatten it. After that I just ran around fucking with them until I got the last spark plug. So much fun though the Flame Trooper made things a little hairy.

I finished the campaign yesterday and I loved it. The tank and airplane missions were the definitely the best. :D

  7. So I found my new favorite Medic weapon in BF1, the Cei-Rigotti Factory. I didn't notice until last night but it has a full-auto feature like the Sweeper and it's more accurate then the Sweeper. The 10 round mags kind of kills its killing potential but at least 80% of your shots will hit unlike the Sweeper. I'm also ashamed to say I was enjoying using the Model 10 Factory last night, I went on some killing sprees that surprised the hell out of me. I still say it needs a nerf but I understand why people like using it and it's Hunter loadout now, the gun is a beast.

    1. DeathscytheX

      DeathscytheX

I took it for a spin again the other night and I just love the sweeper too much to give it up. I stick to trenches, tunnels, and flanks. If I fight long range I'm using the Martini. XD

It will be interesting to see what DLC brings to the medic class though. The French guns are missing from the game that I suppose will be added with their map pack. The RSC Model 1917 and Meunier A6 should both make it into the game. Since they have the Mondragon in the game which is a Mexican rifle, I'll be interested to see if they add the Chineses Liu. There is also a Madsen rifle that is top loaded like the LMG.

But the only thing I can see dethroning the Sweeper for me is the Fedorov Avtomat M1916. Just look at this beauty.

    2. DeathscytheX

      DeathscytheX

I forgot to mention that the Avtomat is a Russian gun and it damn well better be in the Russian DLC with the Mosin.

I bet in the next DLC support will get a new gas mortar. If gas wasn't bad enough now, imagine every support guy shooting 5 rounds of gas around a flag and 2 smoke right on it. XD

I'd take the Rock over the corrupt shitbags we have in political offices now thinking about 2020/2024. At least he's a decent person. XD I think the media learned their lesson with Trump. West is more prone to flying off the handle than even Trump is. They'd just ignore him like Ron Paul. Like I said he could run as independent and do some damage for the reasons Sledge mentioned. But I don't think he's willing to spend as much of his personal wealth to win a primary like Trump did in the first place.

The oversight the Democrats have right now is they're too busy pounding on social issues while people were pissed off about health care, national debt, international weakness, and jobs. When people's lives are getting fucked up financially, they don't give two shits about other people's lifestyle issues. You can't want something better for someone else when you're in the shit hole yourself.

I see some people I went to school using the usual talking points "I want poor people to have health care because I'm not a bad person!" motherfucker, yes you are if you don't care how they get it. The government can come out and say X more number of people now have coverage. Forget that the coverage is shitty and to pay for it, it's now more expensive for those that use to be able to afford it. Remember when you could just walk into the Dr office and see them? Not anymore, you better have already been a regular patient there or you'll be waiting months to see the doctor. I learned that shit when I had vertigo. It was a 3-4 month wait to see any doctor or specialist. Urgent Care is the only place you can go if you wake up sick and the doc is booked for the day... Good luck there, they just tell you to go see your regular doctor and take $120 from you if you have something more than a basic fever or cold. Oh the unemployment rate is getting better? Too bad it doesn't account for the fact that 90 million people aren't participating in the labor force, and when the government report said they created X number of jobs,  it's all bullshit part time work in which 1 person probably holds 3 of those new jobs. People's way of life has better getting worse over the last 8 years, and activism isn't on the top of their priority list.

    3. DeathscytheX

      Basically this guy. Lol

    4. Sledgstone

It takes months to just see a regular doctor? O_O I used to go to a small doctor's office with restricted hours but switched to a larger joint doctor office years ago and they're open 7 days a week. My insurance has Teledoc too, but I've never felt the need to skype with a doctor when the doctors I go to can always get me in the day I call them. Medicaid in NY state has Teledoc too. Specialists are another story tho. I've had to wait 3 months to get a specialist appointment before. x_x

I know theres some real hate out there for Trump right now. It all stems from the negative comments hes made over the course of the campaign. Just like the negative crap Hillary said that was stated in that video. Everyone has been "hate watching" everything both candidates have said and it helped make everyone furious at them. If Hillary won, all her supporters would have been labeled as clones of herself like republican voters are being labeled as clones of him. Now that the election is over the huge hatred of each individual candidate is now being superimposed in the minds of both groups of 59 million people that voted for each of them. Some of these people turned that hatred into protests, others have wanted to start working on impeachment proceedings. On the other side, the winners feel vindicated and call the others sore losers and crybabies while in actuality theres a large chunk of those people (millions) going thru anxiety attacks thinking theres 59 million trumps out there waiting to grab them by the pussy and deport their mothers. It'll calm down after a while once the dust starts settling but that could last for a long time. This election will definitely be remembered as having the 2 most unpopular major party candidates in history.

On a side note, I honestly don't like Trump and many of his positions. Half my family voted for Trump and the other half voted for Hillary (same with about half the people I know on facebook). I don't always agree with relatives and friends on their decisions, but I don't expect everyone to agree with me either. Life moves on. I wish I still drank alcohol. I'd have drank a bottle of whisky throughout this week. XD

  9. So it might be a tad bit early but I'm thinking that The Promised Neverland is going down as my anime of the year (beating out Boogiepop, Demon Slayer, and Fruits Basket). Man was that a fun trip through some pretty gruesome themes and interesting concepts. Highly suggest watching this when it gets dubbed (unless you want to watch it subbed (I mean come on it's that good)).

I knew going into it that it was a horror/psychological anime but boy do they trick you when you first start watching it as it's all fun and games right until the end of the first episode. Quite honestly I really don't know how to summarize my thoughts on the show because it's hard to really say anything without ruining the shows premise and horror element (which they really drive home in the latter episodes).

I will say the story is pretty damn good from start to finish even if they leave you with more questions then they do answers (I know they'll get into that later (it got greenlit for another season) but they really do a bad job setting up why things are the way they are in the first season but I guess its the same in the manga), the characters for the most part are intriguing and interesting (most of the secondary cast it rather bleh but the main characters really sell the show and does the main antagonist)), animation is top notch and damn well done (some of the best this year only taking second to Demon Slayer for me), and the soundtrack is damn good (that opening though, not Demon Slayer topping but still damn good).

Honestly I'm disappointed I didn't watch it when it was airing but I'm glad I could just marathon through it in three days because waiting each week for one new ep would of been painful. Happy its getting a second season but I'm sad that won't be until next year at the earliest. Solid 9/10 for me (would of gone 10/10 but there were a few things I had issues with toward the end). Now I just need to watch Kaguya-sama and Quintessential Quintuplets and I'll be caught up on last seasons shows that I wanted to watch.

    1. DeathscytheX

      DeathscytheX

So early to call. XD Currently Slime is a top contender for me. But I have no doubt it will get knocked off by something as there's still plenty of months left. I just watched the first ep of shield hero and i find it hilarious people got mad about this ep. It was nothing compared to Goblin Slayer's first ep. Then I'm watching YU-NO where the main characters step mom is blackmailed into intercourse. It didn't show any of it, but heavily implied it with wet bed sheets and a trashcan of condom wrappers (How is this TV-14 funi? wtf?). Honestly, that one made me cringe harder than the other two. Although I don't think I'll ever get as angry as when Lafter got murdered out of the blue in IBO.

Wow. that was a tangent. Anyways, yeah Shield Hero... pretty good so far... but man, Isekai is becoming to anime what FPS is to gaming. I kinda wish we could go back to a Mecha golden age.

  10. So just found out Spotify has all of the My Hero Soundtracks (I now have epic music to game to) and all the music from Zombie Land Saga on it (even the insert songs, I get to listen to Saki's song legally now. Fucking yay!). Completely lost my shit when I found out.

Glad to see Spotify is starting to get more Japanese music streaming rights and is finally getting all those anime OPs/EDs that I love. Makes listening to them so much easier now (instead of rummaging through my 191 gigs of music). Now if only they'd get there hands on Myth & Roid's shit (outside of the one album) so I can listen to some Shadowgraph (they're extremely protective of their stuff as it all used to be up on Spotify then it was all removed suddenly).

      Strider Hiryu

You mean I get more Saki and Tae, fucking sign me up. God this has been a long wait for season 2, spring can't come fast enough.

Also god damn is Jiraiya's voice actor getting a lot of work recently (narrator in the trailer), I've been hearing his voice so damn much lately (not complaining, I love his Japanese VA (he's the voice of Hakurou in Slime, damn near lost it when he started talking in the first season)).

  11. So the free Windows 10 upgrade disappears and I find out I have 102 updates for Windows 7. What the hell Microsoft? You don't tell me I had these upgrades when they went live and stick me with roughly an hour and a half download and install time. I feel like I was being punished because I didn't choose to upgrade X.x

    1. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

Yea, substitute upgrades for updates. Apparently my mind is trying to sabotage me.

    2. Sledgstone

      Sledgstone

I noticed the same issue on my laptop when I went to upgrade it. Turns out it stopped installing windows 7 updates on my laptop back in september of last year. -_-; Windows update refused to install anything for me last week including windows 10 and I had to manually install 3 specific windows updates just to fix the windows update software just to upgrade to win 10. I was able to bypass those 97 windows 7 updates tho and go straight into win 10. But that really aggravated me when I saw the amount of security upgrades my laptop was missing out on for over 7 months.

    3. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

      Heh, the sad thing is when I got up this morning I see I have even more updates -_-;

  12. So yea Fire Force is pretty fucking amazing and you should all be watching it. Not entirely sure what else to say about it outside of the fact its animated by the guys that did Soul Eater, it's out special teams of fire fighters that fight literal fire demons (well humans turned into infernals as they call them) using pyrokinetic powers (or none at all in the case of some of them), and it's everything I didn't know I ever wanted wrapped up in an anime. Yea, I'm extremely onboard with this show. I'm just sad episode 3 is delayed for a week but it's completely understandable considering the tragic loss of life this week with the KyoAni fire.

    1. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

Meh, I'm more partial to Maki and Tamaki then her (though Hibana is a fucking badass). I don't usually like ditzy characters like them but god damn do I love them.

Can we say that Hinawa is probably the most badass character in this show? God damn is he fucking brutal XD

    2. DeathscytheX

      DeathscytheX

Maki is my second best girl. Shes just all around badass in physical combat. I loved when she straight up handled Arthur and Shinra on the roof top. Her sensitivity to being called "strong" is charming. XD Despite being totally ripped shes super feminine and I'm always about those contradictions.  At first I just figured Hibana was a fan service piece, but damn her power is crazy, plus her backstory is interesting to me. Even though shes probably just a much more minor character thatn Maki and Tamaki will be.

Hinawa is great XD He reminds me if a way more intense, no BS, grizzled version of Iida from MHA. XD

    3. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

God damn he does remind me of Iida XD Just imagine if Iida was that way, fucking MHA would be even more off the chain

  13. Started playing Journey today. Have no idea whats really going on (I understand for the most part but without any talking or narrations it's all pretty much how you take what you're shown in the cutscenes) but the art style is nice, the puzzle mechanics are pretty interesting, the ability to meet random people playing it is cool (even if you can't speak to each other), and the soundtrack is freaking amazing (probably the best part of the game so far for me). It's a rather relaxing game, can't wait to find time to sit down and actually finish it (I think I'm a third of the way through the game).

    1. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

Yea, it pretty much is. All it really gives you is cutscenes and a few pictographs while you're traveling with a basic premise (I've read a plot synopsis from the developers so I know what they're trying to say through the game but it is pretty much up to your own thoughts on it). It's roughly a 2-3 hour playthrough by what I've read (if you only plan on playing it once, I'll probably play this multiple times just because the soundtrack is awesome and as I said it's a very relaxing game). Even though I haven't beaten it I fully understand why this game was so well received when it first came out.

    2. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

So I beat it tonight after my curiosity got the best of me. I really do have to say this game is amazing and I plan on playing it through multiple times now that I've finally reached the end. It really is a deeply personal experience (evoking all sorts of feelings and thoughts, I honestly found it to be a greatly moving game to the point I had a tear in my eye when I reached the end) and while there is a plot there you really do make meaning for yourself while you play through the game. You get to meet a variety of people playing through the game (I played through with 6 different people in my one play through playing with the last person for the last half of the game) and though you can't talk (every character has a unique tone that you can use to get their attention but that's about all it's useful for) you still get a sense of camaraderie while you journey with them. The soundtrack, as I said is amazing, really does set a tone for each stage/level you progress to getting serious when it needs to and uplifting when it needs to. There are points where the game gets rather tense (I won't say what they are so you can surprise yourself as it's part of the experience) and points where it's downright goofy (meeting the cloth whale was probably the strangest thing I found in the game).

Overall this game deserves all the praise it's gotten and more. This game has more to it then most AAA titles on the market today and did so with a relatively small team and a simple idea. I can't stress enough how much everyone should give this game a try and while I admit it's not for everyone I'm sure even those who dislike it for what it is has something they found enjoyable about it. I really wish big name developers would look at these indie studios and take notes on what a game should be and not what they want it to be.

Watched Forged in Fire on the History Channel this morning since I had nothing better to do, show is a rather interesting concept but a lot more fun to watch then other shows like it (similar concepts like Chopped and what not). 15. Watched Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse tonight and I have to say the movie was spectacular and definitely lived up to all the hype surrounding it. Probably one of my favorite superhero movies now and I fully understand why it won an Oscar.

Story was great from start to finish, though I really don't know what to think of the animation style it certainly worked in this movies favor (a little jarring at first but I was definitely starting to feel it toward the end), and while I'm not usually into the music used into the show I have to say the soundtrack is fucking awesome. Kinda wish I would of went to see this in the theater but that didn't really diminish my enjoyment of the movie.

Really hope we get another one like this (seems there is a sequel of sorts in the works and a few spin-offs as well) because it definitely deserves one. I also have to say the Spider-Man Noir is probably going down as my favorite Spider-Man.

  16. Well I won't be getting BF1 now due to the car accident I was in today leaving work. I won't get into the details but everyone involved is ok (I have a sore shoulder wear the seat belt locked up but nothing serious) but my car is pretty much fucked so I now get to go shopping for a new one this weekend (yay, more payments I can't afford but it'll be cheaper than getting the damage repaired). What a lovely day to end my work day (and I got off early due to having to attend a quarterly meeting that suffice to say I missed).

It's silver. While I generally like to stick to blues, blacks, and reds for car colors (exactly like my father on that) its damn fine looking.

Well I did get the car today (I'll post pictures later when I have time). After everything was said and done the payments come out to $214 a month which I'm more than happy about. It's a damn nice car and handles like a dream.

  17. Well that's depressing, Willy Wonka is dead. RIP Mr. Wilder.

RIP. I loved that movie when I was a kid.

  18. While I have yet to watch BvS all the way through (I skipped around just to see if it was as bad as many have said it is, I'll probably end up watching it all the way through this weekend) Affleck has my full endorsement to continue to play Batman until he's sick of it (not like my endorsement means much). His portrayal is by far the best one I've seen since Michael Keaton (I liked Christian Bale's portrayal but Affleck is just so much better) and I can't wait until they finally film and release the new Batman standalone film, it's going to be epic (and Affleck is directing it).

The movie wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be. I saw an article today saying it was the lack of humor that gave the preception. Maybe so... but sometimes hero flicks get too carried away with humor like it's a Deadpool flick before Deadpool ever came out in which it worked perfect in. It was very serious and dark, and i guess thats a turn off to the masses. I remember reading that the original ending to Interstellar was Cooper going into the black hole and you didn't know if he ever made it back. It scored poorly within focus groups so they changed it.

This is off subject kinda, but I miss those types of films that take a bold chance like the end of Inception or the end of John Carpenter's The Thing (the 1982 one). Most moves are full of predictable tropes and clichés, but if you venture out of that zone, critics rip you apart.

    2. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

From what little I gathered in my skipping about the movie actually does look good but I'll post my fully detailed thoughts on it once I actually watch it all the way through (though I will state I don't like Eisenberg as Luthor, that was a complete miscast in my opinion). I actually prefer serious and movies, even more so with heroes. I've never been a really big fan of superheroes because I never grew up reading comics and I rarely watched the cartoons (my superheroes as a child were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers (yea, I was a huge PR fan), and the Transformers) but what little I've gathered there wasn't a lot of humor in the comics and I'm happy this is the first real film to approach that aspect. The humor in Deadpool worked because it's Deadpool, an anti-hero that doesn't even take himself seriously. The humor also works in the Avengers because, while everything going on is generally serious, the timing of the jokes is just so well done to help break the tension.

I loved the ending to The Thing, that's one of my all time favorite movies. I wish more movies took chances like it did (I haven't seen Inception so I can't really comment on it but I do know how it ends and I think, given the whole premise of the movie, that was a perfect way to end it). Critics these days want to be entertained and not given a whole hell of a lot to think about, they want Michael Bay and JJ films (lots of explosions, lens flare, etc). Very rarely does a completely original film or a film that takes massive chances well received. I mean look at Chappie, it got shit reviews but I absolutely loved the movie. While it's not a completely original idea and sure the film has quite a few shortcomings but it's honestly one of the best movies I saw last year (and I didn't see it till I bought it and on BD none-the-less) because I actually liked the idea they were presenting and I loved watching Chappie grow throughout the film, going from being an infant to an adult persay (and it's a good look into how self-aware AI will most likely evolve when we reach that state). On the reverse of that look at Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The film took very little in the way of chances and recycled most of the plot from A New Hope yet it still receives critical appraise. Don't get me wrong it was a good movie but it took the safe route and mostly did well on it's name alone. This is why Hollywood is dying and they're too stupid to see it (it's also the reason why the Game Industry has been severely lacking in quality games over the years (and why it's slowly imploding in on itself) but that's for another discussion), completely original ideas and risk taking is frowned upon and no one dares take the chance to step out of the safe zone.

I hated Eisenberg as Luthor. He was completely wrong for the role. It was like he was trying to be Heath Ledgers joker instead an extremely intelligent evil businessman. Idris Elba would have been a great Luthor. And the creation of Doomsday was horrible. They could have just made him come crashing into the atmosphere on an asteroid like in the comic and it would have worked much better.

  19. Winter has finally attacked ND in full force. In just one day we've had 10 inches of snow and we're do for at least another 4-6 in my area alone before the end of Wednesday. It's lulled now but to be on the safe side I called into work today (thank god I have some vacation time to cover it) because driving home yesterday (I had to leave early because I did not want to drive in that shit at night) was a nightmare. Hopefully the DOT gets into full force today and gets the roads cleared and sanded so I can get to work tomorrow since this Charger hates ice and snow (my god the ass end of my car was sliding every which way yesterday no matter how slow I was going).

    1. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

Mostly sand, they run a liquid ice melter (they use the dry shut too from time to time) as well but for the most part they sand the roads out here. I'm starting to wish I had snow tires but I just need to get used to how this car handles, my Buick used to do the same shut till I learned how to handle it in winter (got to spoiled by Arizona winters for those 3 years I was down there).

      XD

A friend of mine used to be an expert with driving in the snow and ice, he'd purposefully slide the car all over the place with control and it blew my mind. I could do it to an extent but then I discovered snow tires and realized I could drive almost like normal during the winter without having my knuckles turn bleach white from gripping the steering wheel in terror for an hour on the freeway in a snow storm. XD

  20. With the amount of time PSN is "down for maintenance" I should of just stuck with Microsoft and bought a XBone, at least Live is up more then it's down. All I wanted to do was watch some god damn Netflix tonight but no someone is either DDoSing them again or they just suck at announcing maintenance times. /grumble

    1. Sledgstone

      Sledgstone

I don't get is why the hell we should even have to connect to PSN to watch netflix at all. I blame the BF1 beta tho. We use netflix at least 5 days a week on Lady's account on our PS3 (she is set to autologin on that device for auto updates to the system) and the only time we've had PSN interrupt us in the past 4 years is whenever there is a large beta happening. I'm assuming its people that hate Sony / EA and are DDOSing PSN but PSN is saying "maintenance" my ass its maintenance. The same "maintenance" happened during the BF3 and Destiny betas too and I can guarantee it'll happen the week of BF1's release too. Get a roku stick when you see one on sale. I use my roku every day and netflix has only screwed up a couple times on me over the last almost 2 years and I fix it by resetting my router. The youtube app on my roku is horrible because of how laggy the menu navigation is but once it's playing a video its fine. Netflix however runs the same on my roku as it does on the PS3/PS4. No lag and great performance.

I have the equivilant of last years model of this one:

      https://www.amazon.com/Roku-3500R-Streaming-Stick/dp/B00INNP5VU

I got it for a christmas present from my parents. They bought it on sale for $25 at the time. I recommend a roku to everyone. Want to watch netflix on another tv? or visiting a friend that doesn't have netflix? This thing fits in your pocket. Plug it into any tv, setup the wifi connection and its all set. It plugs in the hdmi port and it comes with a power cord that you can either plug into the tv's usb port or use the power adapter it comes with. It periodically updates the apps and resets itself when not in use. I even have the time warner app on this and it acts like an extra cable box.

    2. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

I might have to pick one of those up but I don't have an open HDMI port on my TV (it only has 3 and all are used (one for the retarded cable box, one for the PS4, and one for my 360 (which I guess I could unhook since I never use it))). If I wasn't so damn lazy I could turn on the 360 to watch Netflix but the damn thing feels like it takes 3 years to load the dashboard. I could also watch it on my phone or my laptop but meh, it's just so much nicer to lie down in bed and watch it on the TV. My main grumble is why are they increasing Plus prices when there network is shit compared to Live which can justify the price you pay for it (yea Live has it's own problems but Microsoft did a great job on it that the problems are few and far between). The other grumble is that it always goes down when I plan on doing something on my PS4 (like last week when I tried to catch up on Youtube vids and last night when I was actually going to get on Netflix for once) that doesn't revolve around gaming (and I agree apps like Netflix and Youtube shouldn't be tied to whether PSN is up or down).

Funny thing is everyone was blaming it on the BLOPS3 DLC going live yesterday (or the fact that it'd go down when a major DLC releases, I got a kick out of that).

    3. Sledgstone

      Sledgstone

Thats why I like my roku stick. Theres no network to go down to prevent you from using it. And I figured out today that I can use my phone's youtube app as the controller for my roku's youtube app (I thought that only worked for consoles). God that made using youtube so much easier for me today. I can even setup a queue of videos to watch and just sit back and enjoy. I've used this thing almost every day for almost 2 years and the only time I have issues with netflix (1 time netflix went down for a few hours, over 2 years) or my time warner app (time warner's app connection has issues about 3 times a month), its because those services are having issues and not the roku stick. Get one of these sticks and unhook the xbox and you wont regret it. Theres numerous apps that can be installed on it too. I have amazon prime, so I use the amazon video app on it and stream movies too.

  21. (I'll get the hang of this one day, sigh)

  22. (ignore again, god I'm bad at this)

  23. (ignore my own visitor message, apparently I'm an idiot)

  24. Boba Fett is so OP and so much fun to play. 20 kills with him to end out the match I played. I know what hero I'll be playing as everytime I get the powerup

On a different note, I melee killed Vader. XD I got it on video.

    2. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

Brave man you are to get into melee range of Vader. Boba's blaster is a 2 hit kill if you hit them in the chest. The man is just unstoppable.

      DeathscytheX

Have you tried Solo? He is the same way minus the flying... honestly I cringe now when people pick Luke and Vader... Solo and Fett are superior in every way. A buddy was getting mad spawning on me when I was Solo because I kept charging into groups of imperials and he'd get railed while I was having fun mowing them down. XD

  25. Bought Valiant Hearts yesterday and all I have to say is wow. This game is amazing, Ubisoft really outdid themselves with this one.

    1. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

It's more on the puzzle end, trying to figure out how to get from point A to point B without being seen by enemies or getting hit by enemy fire or obstacles (some pretty fun driving sections). No real action as if you're seen by an enemy they instantly kill you (not to say there is none, end of chapter one has a rather interesting fight to take out a zeppelin). This game is more driven by the story it's telling which completely has me invested, though they don't talk much I lo...
