  1. Ok, just randomness. George Michal's 'Monkey' came on XM, and I got the weird urge to look up the lyrics. And I realized that I probally don't know what it means. I mean, I know what I thought it ment, but reading the lyrics, it doesn't make sense to me at all. ^_^; Any songs you heard that either have never made sense, or became confusing after you saw the lyrics?

  2. http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808719771/trailer

Hmmmm. I'm of two minds about this one. Full CGI, and the humans just look to 'cartoony', but watching the trailer, it looks like it'll be a lot darker storyline compaired to all the series and later movies. More like the first movie and the original comics. And since I loved the first movie (not the rest, really just the first movie), I'm cautiously excited by it. But no Shredder! That'll be kinda weird. But they have Patrick Stewart listed in the voice credits, even if they don't have who he's playing. That'll be cool. So, yeah, I'm actually kinda looking forward to it. I just hope they don't water it down into a kid's movie the way the series and later movies were. ><

  3. From my interpretation of what's going on, they're not worried about someone dropping a lit cig in their laps and losing control of their car. They're worried about the effect of second-hand smoke. Yeah, a majority of drivers are stupid and we've ALL had our stupid moments in the car. It's like cell phones vs. drinking while driving. Yeah, they both cause the same amount of imparement, but when it comes down to it, you can drop the cellphone to deal with an emergency. You can't just stop being drunk on cue.

Besides, ignorance is curable, stupididty is not. Unfortunatly. ><

  4. There's a difference between drinking in a car and smoking in a car. Alcohol impares your abilities to the point where you can't drive. The most smoking has for it in reference to your driving ability is the people that take their hands off the wheels to light up. Smoking and driving won't kill you (well, the smoking part might, but not because it messes up your driving), yet drinking and driving can kill you and other people.

  5. i'm allergic to smoke, so i'm all for banning it in public places.....and they could do a back 'smoke room' in bars, that wouldn't bother me....but banning you smoking in your car?.....that's not a public place!!....technaclly it is in public, but even with your windows down, it's not like you're sitting next to a stranger and blowing smoke at them!....that one's going way to far......

  6. CoH was a lot of fun if only for the characters you could create. I did an AnimeSchoolGirl one time, complete with school uniform, tall skinny legs, short skirt, and Sailor Moon-ish hair. XD

One thing about FFXI to keep in mind is that it's a lot slower on the leveling end than WoW is. It's geared towards partys and takes longer to get things done. But from what I've seen, the community is much better and there seems to be a heck of a lot more to do. Plus, you can level higher and get some uber-cool stuff, though farming for gil is rather tedious. It's also cheaper than WoW. :P BTW, the latest compilation with all the expansion packs is $30 online at GameStop, and you get the standard 30 free trial with it.

I'll also mention here that if anyone wants to play FFXI, msg me and I'll get you a world pass so I can show you around. ^_^

  7. buy a truck in Oklahoma....it's actually cheaper than in Texas because EVERYONE in Texas wants a truck.....

but that really sucks about your car...i've not heard of the glass doing that from the cold...maybe there was some fault in it?....at least you had a way to pay for it...imagine not having anything you can use to pay for it and not being able to get it fixed at all.....><.....

  8. FFXI. Love it! Tons better than WoW, though it is a slower pace and geared towards parties. If you want to level quickly, go with WoW or Guild Wars. If you want a longer game with a better community, go with FFXI.

Actually, if you want to play FFXI, let me know and I'll get you a world pass for my server. ^_^

  9. A little something I was going to post part of in the Da Vinci Code thread, but decided to make it it's own post and expand on it a bit. This is just rambling thoughts, with I hope is some helpful advice.

    -------

I've learned something about watching movies over the past few years.

Don't EVER go into one expecting a lot. Go in and expect to be disappointed. That way, if you really are, you'll be a lot happier about it. Take Da Vinci Code, for an example. I didn't go expecting a huge consipircy film or anything like that. I went because it looked kinda interesting. And it was kinda interesting. (and yes, a small part of me wanted to see it b/c of all the contriversy, but i'm only human) It had some good action scenes, kinda made you think a little bit, and was a good way to kill a couple hours of time. Are there better movies? Of course. Are there better thinking movies that really stir your brain? Naturally. But did it suck badly? No, I don't think so.

    But then, my standards for enjoying a movie have lowered over the years. Which is why I don't like going to movies by myself. I like being able to gripe about it on the way home. ^_^;

I think the reason for this is that Hollywood itself has lowered it's standards. Think back to 2006: how many truely original movies were there? And I mean ones not based on popular comics, games or books (not that those are bad, but just trying to illustrate a point). Compare that to 5 years ago. And 10 years ago. Granted, there are only so many 'themes' out there to tell stories about, but the ways of telling them should be unique each time. Now, you're getting more rehashing of books and comics and older movies instead of new characters, new settings, and new ideas. I'm not saying that creativity has disappeared, but it does seem to be fading a bit. Everyone is out to make a quick buck, and never mind artistic integrity or just doing a movie because it's new and different. New and different can sometimes bomb, and it seems like a lot of Hollywood is opting for the safe route.

What can we do about this? Not really anything, unless you're willing to start your own movie studio. But that doesn't mean you have to give up watching movies all together. Yes, you'll end up watching a lot of rehashing, but sometimes that's a good thing. Seriously, why do most people watch movies? To escape from reality for a while. Good or bad, a movie does that, if only so you'll have something to gripe about with your friends later. But I think a lot of people are disappointed in the movie experience because they've set their standards higher than Hollywood. And until Hollywood itself starts setting higher standards, those people will constantly be disappointed.

Maybe it's surrendering to say I've started expecting less from movies. I tend to look at the overall effect rather than nit-picking (Star Wars and LOTR are notible exceptions). If I was able to follow the story and enjoy a few things at least, I come away with a somewhat postitive impression. I can even go into bad movies and come out feeling ok about the experience, espically if I get to go with some friends and we can share annoyances later. But my point is, I don't go into movies expecting to be 'wow'ed anymore. I go in hoping for a good little escape from my reality, and in some cases, pretty special effects and good action. That way, if there's little to no plot, I don't feel cheated. In fact, when there is good plot and good character development, I enjoy it so much more because I apprecate it. So that's my advice to you movie goers: set your standards a bit lower. Yeah, maybe it is giving up, but at least I can go to the movies and enjoy myself now!

  10. of course it's fiction, but a lot of people don't have the same grasp of the dividing line between reality and fiction that we do. those are the same people that persicute the poor Harry Potter fans and spend millions of dollars and endless days trying to make the world 'safe' for children consumption, yet all but ignore what their own kids are doing. *rolls eyes*

  11. FOLLOW THE RULES AND WE'LL ALL GET ALONG!

NEW RULE: Stop giving me that pop-up ad for Classmates.com! There's a reason you don't talk to people for 25 years. Because you don't particularly like them! Besides, I already know what the captain of the football team is doing these days: mowing my lawn.

NEW RULE: Don't eat anything that's served to you out a window unless you're a seagull. People are acting all shocked that a human finger was found in a bowl of Wendy's chili. Hey, it cost less than a dollar. What did you expect it to contain? Trout? Luckily, it was only a finger! If it was a whole hand, Congress would have voted to keep it alive.

NEW RULE: Ladies, leave your eyebrows alone. Here's how much men care about your eyebrows: do you have two of them? Okay, we're done.

NEW RULE: There's no such thing as flavored water. There's a whole aisle of this crap at the supermarket, water, but without that watery taste. Sorry, but flavored water is called a soft drink. You want flavored water? Pour some scotch over ice and let it melt. That's your flavored water.

NEW RULE: Stop fucking with old people. Target is introducing a redesigned pill bottle that's square, with a bigger label. And the top is now the bottom. And by the time grandpa figures out how to open it, his ass will be in the morgue. Congratulations, Target, you just solved the Social Security crisis.

NEW RULE:The more complicated the Starbucks order, the bigger the asshole. If you walk into a Starbucks and order a "decaf grande half-soy, half-low fat, iced vanilla, double-shot, gingerbread cappuccino, extra dry, light ice, with one Sweet-n'-Low and one NutraSweet," ooh, you're a huge asshole.

NEW RULE: I'm not the cashier! By the time I look up from sliding my card, entering my PIN number, pressing "Enter," verifying the amount, deciding, no, I don't want cash back, and pressing "Enter" again, the kid who is supposed to be ringing me up is standing there eating my Almond Joy. Paper, plastic? I don't have time for that. I've just been called to do a cleanup on Aisle Nine!

NEW RULE: Just because your tattoo has Chinese characters in it doesn't make you spiritual. It's right above the crack of your ass. And it translates to "beef with broccoli." The last time you did anything spiritual, you were praying to God you weren't pregnant. You're not spiritual. You're just high.

NEW RULE: Competitive eating isn't a sport. It's one of the seven deadly sins. ESPN recently televised the US Open of Competitive Eating, because watching those athletes at the poker table was just too damned exciting. What's next, competitive farting? Oh wait. They're already doing that. It's called "The Howard Stern Show."

NEW RULE: I don't need a bigger mega M&M. If I'm extra hungry for M&Ms, I'll go nuts and eat two.

NEW RULE: If you're going to insist on making movies based on crappy, old television shows, then you have to give everyone in the Cineplex a remote so we can see what's playing on the other screens. Let's remember the reason something was a television show in the first place is the idea wasn't good enough to be a movie.

NEW RULE: No more gift registries. You know, it used to be just for weddings. Now it's for babies and new homes and graduations from rehab. Picking up the stuff you want and having other people buy it for you isn't gift giving, it's the white people version of looting.

NEW RULE: When I ask how old your toddler is, I don't need to know in months. "27 Months." "He's two," will do just fine. He's not a cheese. And I didn't care in the first place.
