  1. true, proofing is important....but so many people think that their first draft should be perfect and book-ready that they don't even try....it's not saying that what you come up with will be book-worthy and it will need lots and lots of editing....the point is that you have something to edit....it makes you start writing and keep going, getting your ideas down on paper and working out some things....i'm hoping this will help me out, personally....i've got ideas, just never get around to working them out....now, if i want to succeed in this, i have to work on it....i kinda need that....i know whatever i come up with will needs lots of proofing and editing, but at least it's started....

  2. ie, National Novel Writing Month. Basicly, you'll take the time from Nov 1 to Nov 30 and concentrate on writing a novel. The difference is, you focus on quantity, not so much quality. It's an interesting idea, and I decided to give it a shot this year. was just wondering if anyone else has heard about it or was planning on giving it a try. ^_^

  3. Ran across this one recently, thought I'd share.

    Winnipeg Free Press:

UNITED NATIONS -- In a bid to discredit Canada at the United Nations, Iran is equipping world diplomats with a 70-page booklet on Canada's alleged human rights violations.

Written by Iran "in the name of God," the document asserts that the Canadian government denies its people food, clean water and the right to work.

"Routine unlawful strip and beatings by Canadian police has been a matter of concern for international community," notes the booklet, entitled Report on Human Rights Situation in Canada, adding that "the practice of police is alarming simply because I it is functioning as if there is no need to have judges."

The publication, which claims its allegations are drawn from "objective and factual information released by authentic and credible international sources", alleges that a range of human rights violations occur in Canada, especially toward aboriginal peoples and immigrants.

"To the great dismay of the international community, it is a great concern that the rights of women are violated, and no serious attention has been paid in promotion and protection of women's rights in Canada."

Moreover, the document concludes, "Canada's position as a self-declared standard-bearer on human rights has been demoted to a blind-folded-and-bullied follower of the new school of unilateralism and the axis of derailment of international human rights law."

The booklet emerges on the eve of the UN's annual summit, to be attended by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier.

Part of the two men's efforts will be to convince other world leaders to stay on side with a resolution Canada drove through the UN General Assembly in 2006, denouncing Iran's poor human rights record.

Iran's booklet signals that its president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who will also be in New York for the summit, will argue that Canada is guilty of hypocrisy.

"It may well (win Iran support), and Canada will have to stand in the General Assembly and explain its position," said Max Morrison, a former Canadian diplomat at the UN who is now president of the Canadian Institute of Strategic Studies.

Canada has long led scrutiny of Iran at the world body, but tensions between the two countries erupted after the 2003 torture and murder of Iranian-Canadian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi in an Iranian jail.

Really, anything I could say would only detract from the hilarity. XD

  4. pretty much anything....this started as an idea in the SM fandom community, so the focus is stolen fanart and stolen characters....but really, if anyone has had their art stolen and beinig used by someone else and wants help confronting the person, all they gotta do is ask....we can't offer any kind of legal advice, but sometimes just letting the person know they're doing something wrong is usually enough....yet there are some people that are stubborn or some artists that want a little support in confronting the person....*shrugs*....

  5. Ok, this came out of a conversation on the ToT boards a week or so ago. Someone had posted a topic about an art theif on DA, and of course, everyone rallied to make comments and so on. Unfortunatly, some of those comments were rather nasty, and I'm thinking to myself 'it's no wonder so many people like that get defensive and so on when their first confrontation is hostility'. So my idea was a group that would activly look out for art theft as well as help artists deal with suspected theives, but do so in a polite and mature manner. Yes, a lot of theives know they're doing wrong, but what about the few that don't? It seems to me that it's better to educate someone rather than attack them.

So, I now have a group open for anyone that is interested in this.

Read it over, and if it interests you, please sign up! This is one of those things that won't work without a community, and as fellow artists, I thought this might be helpful. ^_^

Wheel Of Time Author Robert Jordan Dies Sad news from the world of fantasy literature. Robert Jordan, known best as the author of the “Wheel of Time” series of books, died on the afternoon of Sunday September 16th after more than a year battling cardiac amyloidosis. The news comes from a message left on the author’s blog.

The site says, “”It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain.” Funeral arrangements will be posted later on the blog, and for fans interesting in sending his family their best wishes, the comments section on Jordan’s there seems to be the place to do it.

Robert Jordan was a prominent voice in modern fantasy literature. The author’s massive Wheel of Time series has long been a top seller, and with his death he leaves the series’ twelfth book unfinished and his story painfully incomplete. It was the twelfth book which was supposed to end the series, finally finishing the story of Rand al’ Thor and his friends, a finale in the making since the publishing of the first WoT book “The Eye of the World” back in 1990.

As someone who’s read all eleven books, this hurts. Not just because now we’ll never know how 17 years worth of character development ends, but because Jordan seemed like a genuinely good person who loved what he was doing and loved his fans. Right now my thoughts are with his family and friends, but from now on whenever I look at his spot on my bookshelf it’ll always be to selfishly wonder what might have been.

Arugh!! I'm in full aggreement with the last statement there.

  7. yay, marching band!....i did that from 7th grade all the way up until i got my first college degree....^_^.....played flute until my senior year when i switched to pit percussion...which was a hoot and i loved doing that during college....i kinda missed actually doing drill, but my back would hurt every time, so i had to stop....still did some drill in college as filler during the pre-game show every now and then...just didn't carry an instrument....XD....there's a huge difference between high school and college marching band too, but it was a great time...i really miss it...

    *ahem*

ANYHOO, i'll watch your video when i get home....or maybe this afternoon when i'm up here alone if i can get it to work...^_^.....

  8. I never liked Pokemon. Maybe I was too old when it came out, but it was kinda creepy to me. As for DBZ, I've never seen it all. Whenever it came on, it was always in the middle of the story and I never knew what was going. Now, I don't dislike it. It's not really one I'm interested in, though, and with it being so frickin' long, I'd rather not try and watch it. That's like Naruto. I'm sure it's good, but it's just way too long and when a series goes on for that long, it tends to ruin it after a while.

I saw Wolf's Rain though. I liked it. It was rather slow for me, but it had a good story and really good characters. I just wish the plot had moved along at a little bit faster pace. *shrugs*

  9. I was a fan of the original series, which is really one reason I didn't like the movie. I mean, in the series, there was a lot of emphasis on the character development. The movie was just kinda an excuse to play with CG. I mean, making Bruce Banner the bad guy??? WTF??? That runs totally counter to what his original character was.

  10. Actually filmed at Anime Iowa last year, I finally got around to putting this in a video with a little music. Very limited since the only program I could get to work was Windows Movie Maker *gah*, but at least it's up. It's probally not funny if you weren't there or don't know anything about yaoi, but yeah. Just thought I'd share. ^_^;

  11. Eppy doesn't actually watch the anime. He sleeps with it under his pillow and it soaks into his brain through osmosis. And I've got an account under dubird, but I haven't finished my list yet.

  12. Because I read anything fast. I learned to read when I was about 3 or so, and I tend to gain the meaning of a book a sentance at a time rather than a word at a time. I had one of my teachers in 3d grade didn't believe me when I had finished the assigned reading much faster than everyone else. She quized me several times until she figured out that yes, I do comprehend the written word that fast. Though, I do sometimes miss small details, which is one reason I like to re-read things, but that's little stuff like hair color or something.

Sorry, off-topic there. ^_^; Hey, I'm an admin, I can go offtopic now and then if I want to. XD

  13. Well, the first books are written for a younger crowd, but they get better as they go along. But you have do deal with whiney emo-Harry in the fith one. *rolls eyes*

I talked to my mom yesterday. She was actually at the store buying it because she didn't want to wait till she comes down in September to borrow my copy like she did the rest. XD
