  1. https://kotaku.com/square-enix-embracer-deus-ex-1848866849 Wow. This is pretty huge. What I'm shocked about is the relatively small price tag of $300 million. Considering Sony bought Bungie alone for $3+ billion it make me wonder if Sony or MS even knew these properties were for sale. If they did, it would have probably caused a bidding war. Microsoft had a solid 1 year exclusive deal for the release of one of those Tomb Raider reboot games, I'm sure they would have bought crystal dynamics and tomb raider by themselves for more than $300 million.
  2. I finished playing Final Fantasy XIII a couple days ago. I put in just under 100 hours on it and honestly had a lot of fun with it. The plot was a bit overly complex and it played out the first part of the story in a series of flashbacks that was very popular 10 years ago like Lost and other shows and movies. It was done ok and the datalog had all the reference material in it to keep the story moving along without getting confusing. The game was very linear until you get to Pulse, but then the game slows to a crawl if you do all the Pulse side missions. Pulse is where the game gets more "open world exploration" and to me open world games are becoming more tedious and time consuming. I want a story not endless exploration that doesn't further a plot. I remember when this game came out alot of people hated it but I didn't know why. Lady played through it twice and loved it. Now 10 years later I finally played through it myself and had a good time. I really liked the characters, except for Hope. That guy annoyed me and once I could customize my own party I never used him again. The character models looked great, everyone was beautiful and I loved having strong female characters. All the scenery looked amazing too. I need to set up a command chord on my xbox controller so I can take screenshots on my PC. I would have loved some screenshots at a couple different locations. It was also nice that once you could customize your party you weren't limited to having a specific team leader on at all times, you could play as any character. The combat is extremely simple at the beginning of the game. You basically "auto command" and the game basically AI controls everything, attacks, spells, etc. This seems extremely boring and simple at first, but as I progressed through the game you get paradigm shifts that change the complexity significantly. The Auto command basically helps you input the commands fast because the ATB moves so quick, especially with haste, you're much better off using the auto command to get attacks off faster and focus entirely on the paradigm shifting to change the combat roles on the fly for all the clutch moments of healing, inflicting and removing status ailments and buffs, defense, offense, etc. After a good 20 hours into the game the real combat is basically shifting paradigms all the time. What I also found interesting was the AI would auto adjust itself to the most effective means of killing an enemy based on the intel gathered from the enemy and what status effects everyone has. Using the Libra technique to get more info on enemies was vital. Overall combat was actually pretty damn fun once it got to this point. Aside from the party leader death issue.. if the party leader dies its an instant loss even if you have another character with the raise ability. I thought that was dumb, but the game does have a "retry" option for every battle that compensates for that. There was some aggravating moments though, the mini map and main map not being locked to north was beyond annoying and enemies not dropping gil was the dumbest thing. The only way to make money in the game was to either find it in chests or sell specific premium drops from enemies, but after a while, gil was pointless as I never had to buy a single weapon since they could all be found in chests. Upgrading weapons needed a massive tutorial that was completely absent from the game and I had to find guides online. Upgrading accessories was completely pointless when better quality ones could eventually be found in chests. I really don't understand why they did the money thing in the game at all. Every other FF game lets you kill monsters, get gil... makes no sense. And there were some enemies that I came across that straight up kicked my ass out of no where. I could be owning all kinds of monsters, leveling up stronger and stronger.. hey look at that monster, I'll go kill him. *monster instant wrecks me like I'm a level 1* wtf. Moments like that were extremely aggravating and the game doesn't go out of its way to tell you some of these monsters were meant for later in the game and doubling back to kill when you are stronger. Some other bosses were strong as hell to compared to the monsters leading up to them. And near the end of the game, I pretty much had to grind up to get a bunch of leveling done.. which meant alot of pulse open world missions. Those were fun for a while especially once I got teleportation stones unlocked, that took care of an ass load of back tracking. Thankfully I did a good chunk of all those pulse missions before the last couple chapters of the game.. because once I got to the end of the game the monsters became straight up powerful as hell. I realized if I didn't do those extra 20 hours of missions and leveled up, I'd have probably rage quit at the end because of these monsters. lol. Like every monster fight of regular enemies in the last area of the game was the equivalent of mini bosses. The ending could have been a bit better, but overall I highly enjoyed it. I started the sequel yesterday.. and it is already a very very different game. lol.

  4. I was a big fan of Kingdom Hearts and this remaster looks amazing compared to the original game on PS2. I would love to replay this game again on the PS3. Like I said above, I was a big fan of KH.. until KH2 came out. Kingdom Hearts 2 had much better game play compared to KH1, unfortunately, KH2 was actually KH3 because it was a sequel to a gameboy game. Considering the amount of KH games that have come out since KH2 on hand held systems, I can only assume KH3 will actually be Kingdom Hearts 9. Unless KH3 will be a stand alone game that requires no plot knowledge from the previous hand held games, I will have no interest in playing this game.

  6. I played this demo a few weekends ago and I was not impressed at all. I've been looking forward to a new Final Fantasy game for years and this particular game has been in development for what.. 20 years I think? Its a game that was scrapped and revitalized and renamed numerous times and is finally getting released. All the previews of the game looked interesting. A freestyle fighting system, teleporting sword play, and a bunch of guys driving around in a car while seeing huge monsters roaming the wild. So I got the demo and what a disappointment. This is the kind of demo that makes me glad I didn't preorder this. Wtf. I booted it up and instead of all the cool stuff I saw in the trailers, my character is a little kid with a squeaky hammer weapon. It felt like I was playing Kingdom Hearts again. The camera was crappy and the graphics were unimpressive as if made for PS3. I have a bad feeling that this game is going to tank since Square Enix thought this demo must have been good since they released it to the public. It makes perfect sense that Square Enix's next Final Fantasy game will be a remake of FF7. They obviously have no idea what they are doing with making a new game at this point. I don't want some kiddy Kingdom Hearts crap. I want an epic RPG that will suck me into the world and make me feel for the characters and feel invested in the plot. Instead I got a demo that makes me want to not even look at any more footage of this game and completely forget about it even existing at this point. Maybe it'll be good, but I sure as hell am not going to buy this on launch day now. Its pretty messed up too. If not for this demo, I would have bought this on launch day guaranteed. This is the first time a demo has actually made me change my plans on buying a game.
  7. Yes that is the actual name of this game. This is actually the 9th game chronologically in the series: http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Kingdom_Hearts_%28series%29 Heres the trailer: And here begins my rant: Just like Ash from Pokemon, Sora does not age. It has been 14 years since the first game came out. Kingdom Hearts 3 still hasn't been finished either. I stopped playing this series after Kingdom Hearts 2. A good chunk of KH2 made no sense. I still remember thinking the game would explain characters and events at some point but never did. Thinking I must have missed something I jumped online and found out it actually was Kingdom Hearts 3 and it was a sequel to a game boy game and not a sequel to the playstation 2 game I loved. I'll play Kingdom Hearts again someday if they ever release a full set of every game on one platform in a complete collection. If Square Enix ever releases another game in a series of exclusive title on every single platform, I'll never buy another game series from them again. I'm sure KH is fun and people have followed the series with every title, but buying 7 different gaming systems to keep playing 1 series is ridiculous. SE tried to consolidate the systems needed to play this series by releasing remasters over the years, but even then you'd have had to wait roughly 10 years to play everything on the PS3. I personally don't download games illegally and play them on emulators, but with a game series being initially released on 7 different gaming systems over a decade.. I really wonder how many people have done exactly that over the years. If Square Enix is planning on doing this with Final Fantasy XV, they need to make those plans clear to their customers. end rant.
  8. That battle system is straight out of Chrono Trigger. An old school style RPG game on current gen consoles and not a handheld exclusive. Finally. Square Enix, please continue doing this.

. I never have been a fan of turn based RPG games... I don't like waiting to be hit. KOTOR was the only game I was ever able to tolerate because of its story and it was semi action. This looks pretty wild, I might pick this up.
  10. It looks like the FF series is turning away from its turn based origins and elected to go for a more bayonetta-like fight engine. It looks like a blast! Cinematic Trailer Gameplay footage . 11. I've passed on buying bundles for a while now because with the backlog of games I have now, it seems almost pointless to buy any more games, even on sale. But I've always loved Square Enix RPGs such as Final Fantasy.. but this bundle is full of games from franchises I've never played. What do you guys think about this bundle? I might be interested in it depending on what games get added to it next Tuesday. https://www.humblebundle.com/
  12. Square Enix is trying to remind everyone about Final Fantasy VII again, this time with a Pre-Order Bonus for their new game "Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII" I loved Final Fantasy VII and I have to admit that Buster Sword looks good in an HD game. Maybe this is Square Enix's way of teasing that a FFVII HD remake could still happen? Or maybe they want to rub it in everyone's face that it will never happen and the best we'll get is a DLC for a new FF game? Its possibly a bit of both, but more likely they're doing this simply to increase their pre-orders. For a better look at this game, check out the official E3 trailer:

  14. Square Enix is planning on releasing the HD remakes of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 later this summer. I'm assuming these two games will get an official release date at E3. The HD remake versions will be based off the international versions that never made it to North America release. Final Fantasy X International features additional bosses and an Expert Sphere Grid option. Final Fantasy X-2 International has additional missions, two new dresspheres and new combat options. While the PS3 will get both games in a bundle, it appears as though the two games will be sold separately for the PlayStation Vita. Reference: Siliconera
