  1. Being in the grocery business for over a decade and a half you see a lot of product flops, successes, bait & switches, and other flat out BS. In one year I watched Kellogg's decrease the size of their cereal box contents by .5oz-3oz multiple times. They kept the box height the same and made them marginally slimmer each time to make it less noticeable. When Eternal water first hit the shelves it was from "Natural Springs in Norway". One day a coworker noticed it tasted different, and then noticed the bottle now said "From a municipal water source in California". XD I've seen Edy's Ice Cream downsize their containers, and then return them to the old size a year later calling it "Now 20% more!" Nah, you just gave back what you took. The biggest scam of the century is Halo Top ice cream and everyone that's copying it. Halo Top is just jet puffed ice cream. Breyers makes their version, and now Ben & Jerry's is going to make their line of it. You're paying for deceptive portion control. The only reason they are "low calorie" is because there is less ice cream in the cup. Since a pint is by volume and not by actual weight, most people fall for the this trick. You're paying the same, if not more money for the ice cream version of a bag of chips half filled with air. Don't support this crap. Just get regular ice cream and eat less per serving. On a final note, Breyers doesn't even call their product ice cream anymore. Its "Frozen Dairy Dessert". XD WTF I'm glad I have access to Blue Bell. Its still a half gallon, and its still ice cream. http://www.mouseprint.org/2013/01/21/breyers-converts-ice-creams-to-frozen-dairy-desserts/

Always make a note of the the ounce count on things that you buy regularly when its measured as such. Just about everything has gotten smaller over the past 5 years. Juice, Cereal, and frozen products most notably. They've gotten exceptionally clever in hiding downsized product. Every time there is a complete package/bottle redesign I make sure to look at the old version and compare it to what came in. For example, if you ever see those Tai-pei single serve fried rice meals in your frozen food section, they use to be shaped like the take out boxes you get from Chinese restaurants. Now they are in an oblong oval cup with a lid. They actually look bigger and feel bigger in the hand, but they went from 14oz to 10oz. You can Google image search Tai-Pei right now and see both boxes since this change just took place 3-4 months ago. Seeing as I deal with these products every day, I notice it, but if I didn't work in a grocery store I probably never would. Cereal is by far the worst offender of them all. Most of the cereal boxes these days are a joke. They might hold 3-4 bowls max. I remember as a kid eating 3-4 bowls of coco puffs in one sitting and the box lasting a whole week at least. Really old school cerreals like Cracklin' Oats are in super tiny boxes that may have 2 servings and they still cost $4-5... probably because it still has real ingredients in it. Even Malt-O-Meal knock off bags are way smaller than back in the day. About the only product you can rely on to stay the same size is cheese. People are willing to pay higher prices for the same amount regardless. Plus there is a crazy amount of options and competition. We've gone from a world dominated by store brand and Kraft, to a Renaissance of higher tier offerings like Cracker Barrel, Cabot, Borden, Sargento, Laughing Cow, Babybel, etc. The one trend that has died over the years and I hope it never comes back is the diet flavor of the year. A long time ago I remember stupid diets getting hot and we'd get all this garbage product that no one would buy, and it would all be discontinued when the popularity died off. South Beach Diet had a ton of frozen dinners, and other things. Atkins had frozen dinners, juices, yogurts, cheeses, I mean the store was loaded with that crap. The week he died, it all got discontinued and marked down for close out. XDย

All those diet fads were ridiculous. The last one I heard about and saw in the frozen food section at Wal-Mart last month wasย paleo diet frozen meals.ย  lmao. Because eating food like a caveman really helped their longevity. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I only saw maybe 7 frozen meals of it probably bedside cavemen didn't have a variety to choose from. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I've seen the decrease in some packaging and sometime I'll notice it but damn they are good at hiding it with package design. It's not just food in stores it's also fast food. I almost never get breakfast at fast food anymore.. the last time I got a mcgriddle at McDonalds was over 3 years ago and when i got one about 8 months ago it was 3/4 the size of what it was the last time. It was so noticeably smaller to me that it was shocking. Same with the snack sandwiches at KFC. They used to be the size of a chicken tender on a bun but now it's the size of a large chicken nugget for the same price.ย

Yeah screw McDonalds. I only go when they have the McRib out. I remember when the Big n Tasty first debuted it was huge, the patty was almost twice the size of the bun at that. It was a very unique menu item. Now its just as generic as the quarter pounder. Hardee's burgers all of the sudden got smaller too. As soon as they ditched all the super model commercials, they ditched their good food too. Wendy's, Sonic, and Whataburger are my two go to fast food places for burgers now. BK has always been trash for at least 20 years now. XD
