Microsoft to make Office 2010 available online

Ooh, Geek wars, we love 'em so much. Following Google's announcement that its Chrome OS would be good to go next year, Microsoft has gone a bit googly itself. The software giant is planning to release a web-based version of Office 2010, a rival to Google Docs, launched three years ago. And it's gonna be free! The apps will be available to anyone with a Live account — and will include Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote.

Although some stock analysts reckon that this could lose the Redmond megacorp anything up to $4 billion, most people are in agreement that the move will win Microsoft a whole bunch of new friends. "It is promising to know that such a traditional software company is responding to the 'threat of the cloud' to its core business by embracing it," commented Ars Technica.

Office 2010 will be rolled out thus: there'll be an early release of web apps to thousands of testers later this year; then, at the end of the year it will be followed by a public beta for the software; the finished version will then be shipped off to PC manufacturers at the beginning of 2010.

Interesting. Knowing microsoft and google, I bet these online word processors probably scan everything you type for ad relevance or sell to third parties for research analysis.

I haven't been following Xbox products and I was surprised to see this one. I thought it was the new upgraded Xbox.. it is but it isn't. It's basically the Xbox One Slim. Its 40% smaller, larger hard drive, 4k bluray player and HDR video. Theres still another upgraded Xbox coming out in the near future that should allow 4k gameplay. This slim version is what I envisioned the initial Xbox One would have been. But instead they released that mandatory camera system with it and refused to make bluray movies play on the system unless you download an app. Probably because sony owns bluray tech. The Xbox One S came out just yesterday and now I'm wondering how much longer it'll be before we see a PS4 slim and if it'll have extra features.

I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing. But it makes me wonder how bad is Microsoft & Nintendo doing if they have to answer these types of questions. I still expect myself to buy an Xbox One a month before The 4th Gen Xbox. And I'm still interested in the mystery that is The Nintendo NX.

In a surprising move, Amazon has purchased Twitch, beating out the looming Google / YouTube acquisition.
This should be a good move for twitch. Amazon definitely has the hardware to support the site.
