New Conan Movie

According to The Hollywood Reporter director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men 3: The Last Stand) “is in final negotiations to take on literature’s most famous barbarian.” Be prepared for a massive collective wail from certain quarters of fandom that don’t see Ratner as anything more than a mediocre director of campy cop capers. Speaking of which, it is likely that Ratner will helm Beverly Hills Cop IV (penned by Wanted scribes Michael Brandt and Derek Haas) for Paramount before commencing his work on the new Conan movie—both films are tentatively slated to be released in 2010.

Co-produced by Nu Image/Millennium and Lionsgate, and written by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, the new Conan film is an origin saga for the mesomorphic mutilator that hews closely to the spirit of the original Robert E. Howard stories (see “Conan Movie on the Fast Track”). According to The Reporter, the new Conan film will be R-rated (like the original John Milius 1982 Conan the Barbarian, and not PG-13 like the franchise-snuffing Conan the Destroyer from 1984) and have a budget of $85 million (down from earlier estimates of $100 million).

Thank god it will be R rated. :P

Director Marcus Nispel (Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) has been signed to direct the remake of Conan with production in Bulgaria and South Africa starting late this year, according to Variety.

Brett Ratner was briefly rumored to be the director as recently as last fall (see “Ratner Helming Conan?”).

I wonder if it'll be better than the Arnold movies. :P

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate and Nu Image/Millenium have chosen the actor to play Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian in a remake of the film that vaulted Arnold Schwarzenegger to fame in 1982. Their “highly original” choice is Roland Kickinger, a 41-year-old bodybuilder-turned actor from—you guessed it—Austria. Not only did Kickinger have a role as a T-800 Terminator in the current Terminator Salvation, he actually played the Conan-era Schwarzenegger in an A&E biopic See Arnold Run.

Filming of the new Conan the Barbarian film is set to begin this fall in Bulgaria with Marcus Nispel, who helmed New Line’s Friday the 13th remake, directing. As the The Reporter put it, there is “no word on whether Arnold will make a cameo—or on whether Kickinger will run for governor.”

This guy is ripped! O_O And if you look at other pics of him online, he looks alot like Arnold in the face too.

Yeah this is kinda old news in the sense, they were thinking of putting him on the project since last year, but it's good they confirmed him for the project. The choice for director is ... meh.

I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.

Jason Momoa, who plays the dreadlock-wearing Ronon Dex on Stargate Atlantis, is in negotiations to portray Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian in a new film that Marcus Nispel is directing for Nu Image/Millennium Films. The reboot of cinema’s number one barbarian franchise in which Conan avenges the death of his father and the slaughter of his tribesmen, will begin principal photography in Bulgaria in the middle of March.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, producers of the Conan film had narrowed their choice to Momoa and Kellan Lutz of Twilight before settling on the six foot-four-inch half-Hawaiian, half Iowan actor, who will also be seen in HBO’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones.

Oh god no. I'm not even going to bother watching this now. The guy that played Ronin on SGA? He is one of the worst actors I've ever seen. This movie = FAIL. x_x

Mickey Rourke has been cast as Conan’s father in the upcoming Conan feature, according to Hollywood Reporter. He’ll be killed as part of a massacre of Conan’s tribesmen, which sends Conan on a quest for revenge.

Rourke will join Jason Momoa, who will play Conan (see “Conan Actor Chosen”), and Leo Howard, who will play young Conan (see “Young Conan Chosen”).

Shooting is scheduled to start in Bulgaria in March.

Mickey Rourke will be Conan's father.... I guess they look like they could be related? :wtf:
