Stephen King & Peter Straub's 'The Talisman' Comics & Graphic Novel

Recommended Posts

Del Rey has announced the acquisition of the comic book and graphic novel rights to The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub. Originally published in 1984, The Talisman spent more than 12 weeks at the top of The New York Times bestseller list. The teenage hero of The Talisman, Jack Sawyer, can save his dying mother by finding a magical talisman that can only be obtained by crossing back and forth between our world and the frightening and dangerous landscape of its “twinner” counterpart.

For the first time Del Rey, which has published numerous graphic novels and manga, will be publishing a monthly comic. Del Rey Editor-in-Chief Betsy Mitchell indicated that it will probably take 24 monthly comic book issues to adapt The Talisman. The success that Marvel has had with its monthly comics based on Stephen King’s Dark Tower has obviously inspired Del Rey to attempt the same “comics first, then graphic novels,” model with The Talisman.

Graphic novel adaptations of popular works of fiction such as The Dark Tower or Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter have done well in both the bookstore and comic shop markets, scoring the kind of successes that leads publishers to consider expanding their graphic novel offerings based on the works of popular genre fiction writers.

Sweet. ^_^

I have a theory, its one of those things I got bitched at for on the now defunked DT net; the comics are a segway to an anime or cg dark tower movie(s)

The Dark Tower series would best be served as a cg film(s), no matter who they might pick to act out the parts the cult like following would disapprove, riot, throw monkey cookies etc

But in cg they can follow Mike Wheelan's artistic and preferred by the tower junkies vision of what the characters and the worlds look like.

I watched the first 3 episodes of this tonight and I'm loving it so far. Unlike the movie where everyone is stuck in a grocery store, the bulk of the cast is trapped in a mall, while others are in a church or on the road trying to avoid getting killed. Spike has done a good job with this. Depending on how they treat this series it could be their own Walking Dead kind of show. No zombies needed here with the amount of monsters ready to kill everyone.

Based on King's novel. Pilot was directed by the same Director as Girl With A Dragon Tattoo and the series is written by someone from the Lost team.

I'm glad the postponed season finale did not affect the show's prospects of getting renewed.

Heres a blurb about it and some pics:

If Disney is making this, and its about assassins, I'm pretty certain this will be a live action production like Pirates of the Caribbean and not a kid friendly pixar movie. But will they get someone who can act as insane as Johnny Depp to play the all these schizophrenics?
