  1. In a surprising move, Amazon has purchased Twitch, beating out the looming Google / YouTube acquisition. This should be a good move for twitch. Amazon definitely has the hardware to support the site. Source: Twitch

  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXyCbrdQEyA This phone will always be listening.. As if people weren't concerned before about the Kinect watching and listening to you.. now your smartphone will listen in on everything as it waits to hear its voice commands. I would only like this feature if I had the option to turn it off. Thats a nice feature.. shake the camera to enable camera and then take a quick pic.. at least until you start jogging.. then your phone will be taking a bunch of pictures of the inside of your pants. http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers/Moto-X/moto-x,en_US,pg.html Heres a couple articles about it: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2422605,00.asp http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2422625,00.asp In my opinion, I would never buy this phone. Mostly because it is a Motorola.. and this is why I would never buy a Motorola: http://www.ancientclan.com/blog/1/entry-368-this-is-why-i-will-never-own-another-motorola-phone/ So what do you guys think? Decent phone? Great new features? Iphone Siri ripoff?
  4. I'm sure everyone has heard about this already, if not check the links below for the full information on the story: http://www.forbes.com/sites/gregorymcneal/2013/08/20/its-not-a-surprise-that-gmail-users-have-no-reasonable-expectation-of-privacy/ http://www.salon.com/2013/08/14/gmail_users_have_no_reasonable_expectation_of_privacy/ http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=219176873 It sounds like Google is saying that everyone's privacy is safe, except for the people that email gmail accounts from email accounts outside of google.. But wouldn't that imply that gmail user is having their incoming emails read and thus their privacy is being affected as well? The thing is, pretty much all email is insecure and people don't realize it. Whenever you send an email, it is on the server you sent it from and another copy of it is on the server it was received at. Key employees at whatever data centers those servers are located in, can access and read that email in its entirety. Emails can also be read by hosting companies, the hosting company's web host and up the chain all the way to the data center staff. The larger the corporation, the more employees that could potentially have access to your email. If you connect to a free wifi somewhere and access your email through a smartphone app that is not set for secure ssl connections, then any wifi network admin can access or log your email and any other user on that wifi system could technically access your email as long as they know how to do it. Email is not secure. All the companies that can access it have privacy policies just like google. All employees are restricted to accessing personal information and are only supposed to do it when assisting a customer with an issue. The shear bulk of email out there pretty much limits individuals from wanting to spy on you specifically, but with all these large companies data mining everything out there, I can see why people would be concerned about their data being used to profile them. From what I've seen, they don't just scan the one email when they display an ad on your page.. they give you massive storage space so it can scan all emails to target their ads for you. What do you think? Is google harvesting people's emails to add to their massive data mining operation? or are they only scanning your emails for advertisements? BTW, have you every used google maps? If you use it over the years then they know your address thats associated to your IP#.. clear your browser cache, delete all cookies, etc.. then go back to google maps, start typing your address and watch how quickly google remembers who you are. (then again, they might have changed this, I haven't tested it lately.)
  5. When I first heard about Google Glass I thought it was a dumb concept. Now here it is a few years later and Google is going through with their creation. This accessory will connect to your smart phone / device and it will allow the wearer to access parts of the internet and take pictures / videos of everything they see. They could technically stream their entire day online. I don't think employers would allow it in the workplace.. but that won't stop individuals from now recording everyone without their consent and uploading everything to youtube. What do you think about Google Glass? Will you be interested in getting one? Or will you be more irritated by people wearing them because you'll have to assume they are always recording? http://www.google.com/glass/start/
  6. http://gizmodo.com/5874969/google-changed-the-way-its-search-engine-works-today If you have a google+ account now you can have all your google social media searched.. as well as have your google+ account searched by everyone else! Double check your privacy settings!
  7. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2011/06/google-attempts-to-take-on-facebook-with-new-social-networking-service-google.html Will you use Google + ? I've been needing to write an article... basically google and facebook knows everything about everyone at this point. There is no more privacy on the internet. and now if google does a popular social network to kick facebook to the curb.. then damn.. google will have all information about everyone. Thats scary to me. Once they get their own version of facebook connect running, then its all over! x_x

  9. I found this link today that has quite a few search engines listed. http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2009/06/coolsearchengines These two seem pretty interesting: http://collecta.com/ http://www.kosmix.com/

  11. http://dvice.com/archives/2009/07/microsoft-to-ma.php Interesting. Knowing microsoft and google, I bet these online word processors probably scan everything you type for ad relevance or sell to third parties for research analysis.
  12. Is it just me or is anyone else not finding things as easily on google anymore? Its like when I search for something I mostly find sites that are heavy with advertisements or just splash pages that are just advertisements. I remember when I used to search for something and within the first page I'd find pretty much exactly what I wanted. But now its not much better for me than most other search engines I used to use prior to google's dominance. But I've used google for so long I forget which other search engines are good out there. Anyone have any search engine recommendations?
