  1. It is still unconfirmed for now, but all indications point to a November 8th release date for the new Xbox One console. There are some marketing company images going around the internet showing November 8th as the release date. If its true, then the Xbox One will release a full week earlier than the PS4. After checking Xbox's official site, it appears that November is the confirmed month, but no exact date is mentioned. 2. It looks like Sony needs to ramp up their PS4 production to keep up with demand seeing as GameStop.com has already sold out of the Playstation 4 consoles. Physical GameStop stores have their own supplies so pre-orders may still be available at locations near you. Of course this is just one retailer... Amazon, Bestbuy, Target, Walmart, etc. are all still selling pre-orders... but for how long?

  4. . It appears that the PS4 will try to emulate Steam's success in digital game management by tying your digital games to your specific account. With the games tied to your account you will be able to access your digital games on any PS4 you log into. This is very different compared to how the PS3 handles digital games. Currently the PS3 will allow you to have up to two PS3 consoles active for your digital games. Which means if you own two PS3 consoles you can log into each of those consoles and download any of your digital game purchases. However, it is possible to log into any PS3 system and still access your digital games. By having 1 primary console for your account at your home, you can easily go to a friend's house, use their PS3, log into your PSN account and download your games and start playing. That system would then be considered the second active system for your digital game purchases. Of course, once you finish playing at your friend's house you must remember to not only log off, but also to deactivate your PSN account off their console (PlayStation Support). This is burdensome and many people do not know that they have to do that extra step. The PS4 simplifies this and allows you to log in to any PS4 to play your games. This is where the next major difference between the two systems take place. On a PS3 you can purchase a digital game, download it and all users on that console have access to that game. If the PS4 will have all digital games tied to a specific account, then all users on any console could very well be locked out from having access to playing these games. If all you have for your game systems is a single user account, then this is not an issue. But if you have a family with multiple user accounts for everyone in the house, then this could become a large issue if the only way to play a digital game is to be logged in as the account that owns it. Hopefully the PS4 will have a family sharing option that allows all users on a specific console to play games purchased, because if not, physical game discs will have another advantage over digital. 6. After doing a comparison of the PS4 and Xbox One’s GPUs, Eurogamer is reporting that the PlayStation 4 possesses 50% more raw power in graphics than the newly revealed Xbox One. Eurogamer went into quite a bit of detail, but for a quick look, I quoted the main part here: Source: Eurogamer Well... I'm fairly certain I'll be getting a PS4 over the new Xbox One now that I've seen this.

  8. Microsoft might be changing the entire used game market with their next console system the Xbox One. When a game is resold at a used game store like Gamestop, the retailer makes all the profit off the sale. In an attempt to get publishers and Microsoft a piece of those transactions, Microsoft might be putting strict limits on the transferring of physical games. In a report made by MCV, only retailers that have signed up with Microsoft will be allowed to resell used physical games. If this ends up being true, then don't expect to be able to sell those used games on craigslist, ebay or at a garage sale. Unless you are a registered used seller with Microsoft, those already installed game discs will be nothing more than coasters to sit your drinks on. None of this has been confirmed, but it does seem plausible. In fact, it could be the future of used game sales if Sony decides to adopt the same system. There is also the possibility that Microsoft will put a stop to all used game sales for their console altogether and instead have an online MS run marketplace for the sale and transfer of used games. 10. . But why didn't Microsoft mention this potential during their Xbox One reveal event? This also raises more questions.. Could it be that Sony's Gaikai tech is even more powerful? Will the Xbox One still match up with Playstation 4 if Sony reveals computing potential with their cloud servers? Sony has said that constant online connections are not required, does this mean all game developers are planning on utilizing the PS4's specs only and not the potential cloud specs? Will this mean all future console games will come with a label indicating if a constant cloud connection is required or not? We'll have to wait for E3 to get all the details. In the mean time, check out this video of Crysis 2 being played on a web browser thanks to Sony's Gaikai system: Source: Official Xbox Magazine
  11. The Xbox One could very well be more powerful than the Playstation 4 thanks to cloud computing. Official Xbox Magazine is reporting that for every Xbox One sold by Microsoft, there will be the equivalent of three additional console's CPU and storage available to each system by means of a constant internet connection to MS's cloud servers. Of course this means if a game developer wants to take advantage of the Xbox One's powerful cloud servers, a constant internet connection will be required. This would mean that any or even all games made for the system could possibly require a constant internet connection.. 14. Based on online document leaks from last June and a Microsoft employee spilling the beans about internet requirements for the new system on Twitter a couple days ago, it seems as though the next Xbox console (Xbox 720?) will require an always online internet connection. This online connection would most likely be needed to initially load games and applications in the console. Even though always online connectivity is very common in a large majority of households, this could anger quite a few gamers. I suppose if my internet provider had an issue and my connection dropped out, I'd have to keep myself entertained by playing games on my PC, phone.. or anything other gaming platforms besides Microsoft's new console. Of course, my internet has only gone out once in the past year, so I doubt I'll have any problems. But we'll have to wait until Microsoft officially unveils the new console to see if this is true. Do you think this always online requirement could potentially hurt the new system? Sources: Polygon and The Verge

  16. According to a report by Asahi Shimbun (a Japanese newspaper) - referenced from Daily Mail the new Playstation 4 could cost as little as 40,000 Yen when it is released later this year. 40,000 Yen equals £270 and for us in the US, about $430. This is a huge difference in price compared to the large $599.99 price tag the PS3 started out at almost 7 years ago when it debuted.

  18. Kotaku has a good article about the new details revealed today about Valve's Steam Box, a PC dedicated to the steam platform for PC gaming: Wow. This could be huge. I honestly wouldn't mind owning a pc dedicated to steam games. Maybe with a steam box being mass produced we could get a powerful gaming PC at a decent price. Source: The Verge
