    Universal Pictures to Fight Asteroids

    Source: The Hollywood Reporter

    July 2, 2009

Universal has won a four-studio bidding war to pick up the film rights to the classic Atari video game "Asteroids," says The Hollywood Reporter. Matthew Lopez will write the script for the feature adaptation, which will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

In "Asteroids," initially released as an arcade game in 1979, a player controlled a triangular space ship in an asteroid field. You can play an unofficial version of the game below!

Universal is also developing movies based on Hasbro board game properties such as "Battleship," "Candyland," "Ouija," "Monopoly" and "Clue."

    wow... just wow. :shame:

  2. Yours won't heal you? If I drop below 60 health, the CPU is all over me. "Hold still, I gotta heal you!" No, you don't, dammit!

Yeah they'll heal me then, what I really meant was they wont revive me. They'll switch from their gun to there pistol to their gun again, reload, and then they might... if a smoker doesn't grab them.

I know what you are talking about though, When i play with 3 humans, one can be at 10, and the CPU will try to heal the person at 80... Its pretty funny as they try to run away from the computer as the other person that really needs it tries to get near it.

I generally play as Zoey because she tends to be the most stupid computer from some reason. She always grabs the hunting rifle, and does the most stupid things. I noticed Bill runs backwards a lot.

DEVELOPING: Television pitchman Billy Mays — who built his fame by appearing on commercials and infomercials promoting household products and gadgets — died Sunday.

Mays, 50, was found unresponsive by his wife inside his Tampa, Fla., home at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry to Mays' residence and foul play is not suspected. Authorities said an autopsy should be complete by Monday afternoon.

"Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days. Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times," Mays wife, Deborah, said in a statement on Sunday.

Mays was well known for his numerous television promotions of such products as Orange Glo and OxiClean. He was also featured on the reality TV show "Pitchmen" on the Discovery Channel, which followed Mays and Anthony Sullivan in their marketing jobs.

Born William Mays in McKees Rocks, Pa., on July 20, 1958, Mays developed his style demonstrating knives, mops and other "as seen on TV" gadgets on Atlantic City's boardwalk. For years he worked as a hired gun on the state fair and home show circuits, attracting crowds with his booming voice and genial manner.

After meeting Orange Glo International founder Max Appel at a home show in Pittsburgh in the mid-1990s, Mays was recruited to demonstrate the environmentally friendly line of cleaning products on the St. Petersburg-based Home Shopping Network.

Commercials and informercials followed, anchored by the high-energy Mays showing how it's done while tossing out kitschy phrases like, "Long live your laundry!"

Recently he's been seen on commercials for a wide variety of products and is featured on the reality TV show "Pitchmen" on the Discovery Channel, which follows Mays and Anthony Sullivan in their marketing jobs. He's also been seen in ESPN ads.

His ubiquitousness and thumbs-up, in-your-face pitches won Mays plenty of fans. People line up at his personal appearances for autographed color glossies, and strangers stop him in airports to chat about the products.

"I enjoy what I do," Mays told The Associated Press in a 2002 interview. "I think it shows."

Mays was on board a US Airways flight that blew out its front tires as it landed at a Tampa airport on Saturday, MyFOXTampa.com reported.

US Airways spokesman Jim Olson said that none of the 138 passengers and five crew members were injured in the incident, but several passengers reported having bumps and bruises, according to the station.

Authorities have not said whether Mays' death was related to the incident.

Discovery Channel spokeswoman Elizabeth Hillman released a statement Sunday extending sympathy to the Mays family.

"Everyone that knows him was aware of his larger-than-life personality, generosity and warmth," Hillman's statement said. "Billy was a pioneer in his field and helped many people fulfill their dreams. He will be greatly missed as a loyal and compassionate friend."

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

  4. How could you not want to be Uncle Phil?!?!

I don't understand why the CPU is so dumb, they use pistols, they wont heal you, but they will snatch up all the pills and health packs... they wont use pipe bombs though. wtf.

  5. Completely ignoring the story, Gun control is statistically linked to higher crime rates. The only thing gun control does is keep firearms out of obeying citizens hands... the people the laws were intended for, will still, and always will obtain firearms.

You just have to be foolish, naive, and ignorant to believe otherwise.

two whites two blacks... one of them being Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince X'D It takes place in the day time mostly it seems so I dont see that problem. Personally I shot them all equally because they walked in my line of fire. Thats why its better to have at least 1 other person playing. The only good thing the CPU is for is spotting special infected.

  7. i thought it was really good O_O

why'd you think it was terrible DX?

An hour and a half should have been cut out. It was more about Sam, and less about the Transformers. Hell, the Transformers had way less dialog than the humans. It started out slow, it ended crappy and it was drawn out and boring all through it. The few amazing fight scenes here and there, were not enough to save the film. Those two stupid little autobots had more film time than any of of the other transformers, wtf? The trailers made it look like this film was going to be darker and more serious, when in fact there was way more comedy than the first. In fact, the only good parts are in the trailer...

Barricade died within the frist 10 minutes? wtf, Devastator was meaningless... I hope to god that wasn't Unicron that was hyjacking that satillite. Sam's roomate character was completely unecessary, along with the decepitcon college babe. Soundwave was a disgrace... Megatron and The Fallen had way too little screentime, while it focused on Sam's mom and dad, and his girl problems. It wasn't transformers...

  8. :picknose:

Yeah if you didn't know I discredit me all the time.

Then again I didn't see the point in bashing really old games that chances are none of us are going to play. If those games were any older they could have been on the Magnavox Odyssey.

Well, I guess that's why you don't appreciate the purpose of AVGN. People that have actually played the games can relate to what he is saying. I've been playing video games since Atari.

While there were a lot of really great games in those days, there was plenty of shitty games, and since there were no review sites or mags like there are today, people went out and wasted $50 on games that were complete shit, only to actually find that out when they went home and stuck it in their console.
