  1. Finally ended up breaking down and paying for a Crunchyroll membership on Sunday (cancelled my TOR subscription since I've done everything the game has to offer for now) since it seems the hay day of fansubs is dead (and I was dying to watch IBO season 2 and now I can finally get caught up on Sailor Moon Crystal (god that just sounds wrong)). Gotta say, and believe me it hurts to say this, they've really come a long way since I last used them back when they were doing this illegally. Great quality, passable subs (need a little more work on localization but they're better then they used to be), and I get to watch everything on my TV instead of my computer (major bonus for me).

My only gripe is I wish they had more to offer. Their selection is rather small for having a partnership with Funi (then again I've seen pretty much everything I want to see that Funi has to offer). Meh, hopefully they'll continue to grow and get more stuff (and hopefully older stuff, a lot of the newer shows these days suck).

Considering I slogged my ass through the whole entirety of Dragonball Z and GT (so much god damn filler and pointless fights stretching for 10+ episodes (yes Frieza I'm looking at you)) I think I can survive One Piece (plus I pretty much know what happens throughout most of the show/manga (thank you One Piece Wiki and my insatiable need to read about things that interest me (damn you and your amazing awesomeness Whitebeard)) and I've seen up to the recruitment of Chopper (sadly through the dub) so I could always start there if I didn't feel like slogging through the first set of episodes) and the Desert Arc (again I already know what happens so I could skip this arc as well). Plus I've always meant to watch the anime due to a friend of mine and his obsessive fandom of the show (I originally had the first 300 episodes on my external because of him but before I could start watching it that HDD bit the dust and I didn't have back ups of the One Piece episodes (may you RIP Chikane-chan (yes that was the name of the external HDD) and manga but could never find the time to actually sit and watch it (this was back when I was still in college). Honestly I still watch a lot of anime in SD so it doesn't bother me any (over half of my fansubs are from before HD became the standard and all DVD's are SD quality) and One Piece's art style actually looks good in SD as compared to other series.

Meh, I already know how Naruto ends (I read the last few chapters of the manga when it finished because I didn't think I'd ever get around to watching the series) but I still plan on watching the rest of it. I already slogged through countless amounts of filler eps to get where I'm at (which sadly is even more filler) so I can slog the rest of the way through (I'm right at the start of the Fourth War). Plus I could finally get around to watching The Last: Naruto the Movie (yea, I'm holding off on it until I finish the series).

I'll probably give it a watch (it's always sounded interesting to me but sadly no good fansub groups picked it up), still trying to figure out when I'm going to have time to slog through 700+ episodes of One Piece (yes I'm finally going to watch it) and when I can get caught up on Naruto (the fansub group I was getting it from quit so I'm way fucking behind again).

Meh, I know Crunchy has some simulcast stuff (IBO is one but there's only one ep before its done on Crunchy so yeah) but I'm not all that interested in that feature. Considering my lack of free time to watch shit I'll just let eps backlog and binge them like I am with IBO.

  3. I watched the first season (at least first available on netflix) of The Great British Baking Show. This was amazingly relaxing. lol. Everyone is so nice, the music is soothing. No stress, yet informative baking info. I got to the end of the first season, saw who won and everyone is happy in the end. wtf. XD This is so different from all other competition shows. In the finale all the previous contestants were having a field day / picnic with friends and family while the last 3 people competed. After the winner was announced the other finalist responded with things like "The right person won this today." wtf. XD Nobody is mad. XD What really shocked me was the prize. The winner got a couple bouquets of flowers and a glass serving dish / trophy for a cake... and thats it. lmao. I had to google it.. there is no prize money, no cook book deal, no vacation or baking job... just the satisfaction of winning. Wow. XD The next season started and it begins with "We had over 10,000 participants attempting to get into this season.." So many people spending so much time for no rewards besides personal growth and experience. I like this show.

  4. We're getting almost 2 feet of snow over the next 2 days. -_-; Winter needs to end.

  5. GANTZ:O is on Netflix. I wasn't aware of its existence. Its pretty good, but you'd appreciate it more if you watched the original series. I thought it was a sequel or prequel movie at first and then I realized some of the same characters are in it, but its discombobulated in their relationship with each other. They flip the main character roll to someone else, and make the original main character look like a decent guy when he was just a whiny prick in the original. XD

    1. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

He's part of the reason but there's more to it than him (in fact I hated most of the characters to begin with, most of them were annoying and none of them really brought anything to the show). Honestly I just didn't feel it was that great of a show, entertaining yes but I feel other shows with similar premises did better jobs then this show at selling me (Mirai Nikki (I forget its English name but I know you've seen it), while not exactly the same premise, is a much better show then this and it plays its own death game (though for a different prize)).

Meh, I noticed this the other night but considering I don't like and never will like Gantz (the show is just awful, the only good thing about it was the music) I'll never watch it. I can't place my finger on it but something about the show just turned me away from it.

  7. Been screwing around in the Ghost Recon beta these last few days. Gotta say the game is fun but you can definitely tell it was made to be played with friends. Don't get me wrong the A.I. squad mates are better then what you would get in other games (almost as good as the A.I. squad mates from Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (which this game has some similar mechanics to)) but a lot of the missions seem to be built with the idea of going in with 3 other players due to enemy patrol routes and placements. Beyond that gun play is pretty solid (a little wonky at times but this is a beta), combat is quick and sometimes relentless (I made a minor mistake approaching a base in the new area for the beta and damn near paid for it with my life (fucking enemies called in 2 choppers, still trying to figure out how I survived it)), and the story is pretty good for a Tom Clancy game (not generally into Tom Clancy stuff but this game and the Rainbow Six games have always had relatively good stories to go along with good game play).

Honestly if it wasn't coming out a week after Horizon and two weeks before Andromeda I'd probably buy it but no, Ubisoft had to pick the worst time to release it. If you get a chance this weekend try it out, the beta runs until Monday and it's definitely worth a quick play through (even if you don't get through the entire first area you'll get a good feel for the game play and what the story is about in the first few missions).

  8. Red Mage and now Samurai are confirmed as the two jobs for the upcoming FFXIV expansion Stormblood. I am completely hyped about this now and Samurai is going to be a DPS this time around (Sam was a tank in FFXI), god I can't wait. Finally a job I've been wanting since the game released (besides Ninja which I already play as). The only bad thing is I'm torn about which one I want to level first.

  9. So after playing TOR since it's release I've finally finished all the class stories this morning earning my Legendary Player status. I have to say TOR is an exceptional game with some of the best storytelling I've seen in an MMO to date (FFXIV takes second sadly, while the story is amazing it's just not personal enough like the TOR class stories are).

Have to say my favorite Class Stories were Sith Inquisitor (even if it was a little predictable at times), Imperial Agent (I haven't played the Light Side version but the Dark Side one was pretty damn fun), and surprisingly Jedi Consular (which I beat this morning. While a little boring the twists and turns the story takes after Chapter 1 were fun). The other stories were just a little to bland for my tastes (Sith Warrior was okay but revenge stories just aren't all that great any more. Jedi Knight wasn't all that amazing but the final story mission was pretty cool. The rest I really don't have much to say about (though Smuggler was good for a few laughs)).

Gotta say for their first time doing an MMO Bioware did a great job, even if the game has gone through more rocky points then most MMO's. The Knights of the Fallen Empire and Knights of the Eternal Throne expansions were amazing, well done, and outside of the class stories had some of the best story writing I've seen in awhile (this goes for single player games as well). Can't wait to see what Bioware has in store for TOR in the future but I'm happy to say I can finally put this game on the back burner until it happens.

Oh god it's probably the best change to come to the game since I started playing it when it released. Now you're actually able to survive shit earlier in the game if you were playing one of those classes that didn't get their healing companion until later on in their story (I'm looking at you Inquisitor, I had to wait until fucking Hoth before I finally got my healing companion back in the day which for Inquisitors is their forth of five companions (then again back then Darkness Specced Assassins could actually heal themselves in combat so it wasn't that hard unless you fought a Gold and Silver nameplate enemy at the same time (Tank spec for those that don't know, sadly they dropped that ability when they killed the original talent trees for this new system they have)). Sadly the downside is they don't do anything else besides heal and a little dps now when in healing stance (you can choose between Tank, DPS, and Healer in the new companion menu) so they don't do their original jobs anymore but I haven't run into any real problems with it on any of my characters (shit, even though my Assassin is specced tank I can still put out a shit ton of dps).

Plus I like it as it allows you to focus on the companion you want to focus on for dialog and relationship building as they gain relationship points faster when they're with you and apart of all your conversations (though that doesn't even really matter anymore as you can now do all their major dialog choices after every planet you complete, getting points from conversations and what not just helps you get to them faster). Though, yet again, all that goes down the drain once you start playing Knights of the Fallen Empire as they ditch your original five companions for a whole slew of new ones (though you can recruit some of them back as you play through KOTFE (like Pierce and Vette come back but the other three have yet to make an appearance from the original Warrior companions)). Sadly I miss some of the old companions, really grew to like them as I played through the original game but some of the new ones make up for their loss.

Like I said Warrior was fun but the whole revenge aspect after Chapter 2 just didn't do it for me (don't get me wrong the whole of the last chapter of the Inquisitor story had some of the same elements but I felt more like I was working towards a goal (killing a member of the Dark Council and taking his seat (story spoiler but if you don't plan on playing the class its okay) instead of killing the Master that betrayed me), plus everything you work for in the Warrior's story is for naught with the release of Fallen Empire (and to some extent Shadows of Revan. Then again Fallen Empire through everything out the window for everybody (even your companions)). That quest was rough back when I did it as well (as a Tank Specced Juggernaut as well, my dps was sorely lacking) but now it's a cake walk just like every class quest now. Since they went through a streamlined the content for faster leveling and made it so all companions can heal nothing is hard anymore (one of the Bounty Hunter's story quests was completely impossible for me to do until they redid companions).

I'm hoping they continue to add to TOR even though it's not considered canon anymore, would suck to see all this amazing work get thrown away because Disney wants to go another direction (though there are rumors of a new Star Wars TV show along the lines of Clone Wars and Rebels that takes place in this timeline (here's hoping if it's true it makes most if not all of the stuff going on in TOR canon again)).

  12. Sadly I had to give some money to Gamestop for a Pro Controller. I really wanted a charging grip, but no one has them and when they come up, people snatch them up so fast you don't even get the email notification you signed up for that they're available. I wish people would wait instead of giving money to resellers on Ebay. If they all got burnt, no one would do this stupid garbage. I've been trying to help a friend get a preorder on a Switch, but every time someone posts on reddit that someone it taking preorders they are gone within 8 minutes of the post. Its amazing how people can dedicate their time and sit there all day hitting refresh on every retailer site and reddit.

  13. Looks like I get to play the For Honor beta this weekend, just got my code today. Can't wait, if only I didn't have to work Friday (this overtime shit is getting old).

    1. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

Meh, I didn't really get another chance to put much time into the beta again after my initial time (I did play a few rounds of Dominion again but it was Player vs. A.I. so not much to add). I did unlock Orochi and try her out, she's not bad but definitely not my play style. She's too squishy and I just don't like her play style. Not to mention she's so much weaker then the Warden it's not funny (her attacks don't do as much damage but she makes up for it in other ways). I will say I mastered the play style of the Warden though and am a force to be reckoned with when I play her (at least for the A.I., never did get a chance to play against other players), went on a 10 player kill streak in the last match I played (again A.I. players).

Overall with the little time I put into it I'm certainly intrigued by it. I might drop the money on it when it releases on the 14th as it's enjoyable enough but with Horizon coming out next month as well I'll have to see how funds are doing (all this overtime is helping but I'm, once again, trying to save up for a new computer). If you get a chance once it releases I'd say give it a shot if you got the chance, see if you like it (I don't mean go out and buy it of course but if a friend gets it try it out). As I said the combat isn't exactly easy to master but once you start to get the hang of it it's extremely enjoyable. All in all if I'd say this is a solid 7/10 just based on the beta alone.

  14. Two years after I bought it I finally started watching Tekkaman Blade. 16 episodes in and by god am I loving every minute of it (even if it is a bit campy). Great soundtrack, ok characters (hey not all anime has great characters), and a plot that's actually pretty good (if not recycled from other similar shows from the time).

Also makes me miss the old days when anime was hand animated and we didn't have all this CG shit mixed in. Sure the art wasn't always great but damn the shows were still good. Also makes me miss when anime actually had good plot and stories, not this same recycled bullshit we get every year.

One quick correction. It's Warden not Vanguard for the hero I was playing. For some reason Vanguard was just stuck in my head (could be because I was thinking of ME or it could be because of one of the Orders you can pickup in For Honor).

This is my initial impressions based on Dominion with A.I. controlled enemies and A.I. or Human controlled allies (yes you can fight against the A.I., a positive for this game):

      1. You can play as any hero no matter what faction you decide to support for the Faction Wars. This is awesome since it allows you to try every hero out and choose the ones you prefer while still earning points for your chosen faction (Samurai for me but who didn't see that one coming). There's a whole War Assets thing that goes along with the Faction War but they really don't go into much in the beta about it. This is just a nice thing I wanted to point out that has nothing to do with Dominion.

      2. Combat is hard, don't let any of the videos fool you otherwise. It's extremely hard to land attacks with heroes that use slower but harder hitting weaponry as the enemy has more then enough time to block or otherwise counter your attack (if they're on a hero that can counterattack). I favor the heavy attack on the Vanguard which is why I noticed this so fast and (at least with A.I. enemy) you can see what direction their attacking from giving you time to block if they're using a slower swinging enemy. However, combat is extremely fun and intuitive. Once you get used to how it works it flows extremely well from attack to attack, trading blows or going from a block into a brutal attack. Before I got off tonight I was on an eight player (A.I. controlled) killing spree going from one enemy hero to the next. While watching Matimi0 play the other night I noticed the assassin classes are extremely squishy but attack fast and often but do a lot less damage then their heavy attacker allies. They make up for this with the ability to counterattack but I'm not entirely sure how that works.

      3. Learning to use you're heroes abilities is a must as they can turn the tide of a loosing battle greatly into your favor. Take the Vanguard for instance (the female knight you see in a lot of game play footage). Her base abilities are actually pretty powerful when used the correct way like her ability to strengthen troop morale (which can really help when trying to take a point), her ability to heal herself (up to 4 times), or her ability to call in a catapult strike (which is hilarious when used against large groups of soldiers). I only use her as an example as she's the only hero I've actually played (I plan on unlocking Orochi (the Samurai's assassin class) tomorrow when I get on it again).

      4. While you might think the A.I. would be easy to fight against you'd be dead wrong which is why I'm glad this game has the option to fight bots. They play to the hero's strengths quite well (like ambushing you as an Assassin hero or defending allies with the shield heroes). Quite honestly I feel the A.I. might be a little to good as certain heroes in an A.I.'s hands feels wrong (those shield heroes are hard to kill while being controlled by an A.I.).

      5. The maps are small but rather intricate with areas where you can easily push opponents off the side of the map to kill them. I like this as it allows the fights to get more intimate with little to no running around except between capture points. Plus the amount of detail put into the maps is extraordinary.

Honestly, as I said, these are just initial impressions. I plan on putting more time into it tomorrow between leveling my Consular in TOR and farming light for my Relic weapons in FFXIV (so close to it's final form I can taste it, plus my Guild Master wants to do some raid runs for extra light). I also plan on actually trying out Duel and Brawl (2 vs 2) as well as doing Dominion againt Human controlled heroes. I'm actually thinking of dropping the money to get this next month as it'd be a nice time waster until ME: Andromeda releases and it's a hell of a lot more fun then BF1 (and that hurts so damn much to say). I honestly didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I am but it's not as competitive as I thought it would be which is nice (I mean I can see this becoming an extremely competitive game, maybe e-sports level, but it's nice it has options for gamers like myself to play against A.I.).

Never even heard of it (another one that slipped by me), just got done reading a summary of it on Wikipedia. It actually sounds a lot like Log Horizon just in a different world and different circumstances (sounds like the main character is trapped in the world by himself with all the NPCs). I'll have to see if I can find fansubs for it as well, definitely sounds like a show I'd like.

The memory thing is actually a major part of the story later on in Season 2 when the players actually start realizing they're loosing their memories every time they die. At first its nothing major (insignificant stuff like names of places they used to visit and what not) but as they continue to die more and more memories disappear and they start turning into mindless Thralls (which is covered in the season 2 during one of the story arcs) who can think of nothing more then dieing in combat to get back home.

You'd probably enjoy Log Horizon then, similar premise to this and SAO but no perma-death for characters that die (instead they lose their memories of the real world). They're kind of in a hybrid real world and game world (it's explained in the show). You honestly don't even find out whats really happening (the Light Novels are nowhere near done yet and I don't remember what books S1 and S2 adapt) until the end of season 2 and even then it's a very vague understanding. They also keep the party dynamic and go even further in-depth with it (and I mean in-depth with, there's full fledged raids going on in the show at some points). They also do a very good job of explaining classes, what they do, sub-jobs available to classes, etc. Very interesting show and glad I overlooked the whole "Sounds like SAO but worse" mentality I had when I first heard of it (in fact I think it's a much better thought out show then SAO (I love SAO but LH has so much more going for it imo)). Sentai has the rights over here but it can be streamed on Crunchyroll I believe.

I'll definitely have to check it out (if I can find fansubs for it).

You need to watch more anime then because there are plenty that do that quite early on (well depending on a few factors like how much investment you have in the characters and what not). I had to read about it to even know what you're talking about (never heard of it before, one of the few shows that slipped on by without me noticing it), might have to give it a watch as it sounds a lot like SAO and Log Horizon but with a different twist.
