  1. So we're a prisoner this time? Interesting, I like where this is going. Should make the story a lot more interesting as compared to the normal Air Force/Mercenary Ace angle they keep going for. As for the release date I suppose they're not saying anything since it can be played in VR and I suppose that's holding development up (not a good fucking excuse Bandai Namco, you've made we wait 11 years for another Strangreal Ace title and that's to fucking long. This better be out this fall or heads will roll).
  2. This is probably the only game I'm hyped about out this years E3. God the game looks beautiful.
  3. It looks good but, again, so did Destiny before it launched. It was nice to see some actual game play and by what I can see it looks like at least that is pretty solid. Here's to hoping we get more footage like this in the months to come.
  4. I'm going to be the best damn snowman builder there ever was, you heard it hear first! Joking aside I like what I'm seeing with fortifications, definitely going to add a whole new layer to how the game is played and really reinforce teamwork when trying to take an objective now.
  5. Absolutely gutted and devastated to hear of Anthony Bourdain's death, turned an already shitty day into an extremely shitty day. I would of said something earlier but I had to come to terms and sort out my own thoughts on this (and of course get through a 10 hour work day).

The world truly is a bit darker and a lot less interesting today with his loss. His passion, gift for storytelling, humanity, and all around awesome attitude were what drew me in when I first started watching A Cook's Tour (his first show) so many years ago and what cemented my love for this man during the run of No Reservations. Sadly I never did get around to watching Parts Unknown or The Layover but I can only imagine they were as good as the other two. This man truly had a gift for opening his heart and mind to people and their culture as well as getting them to open up as well.

RIP Mr. Bourdain, not only have you opened my eyes to new things, given me countless hours of enjoyment, and been an all around awesome person you've also inspired my love for travel (that one day I will hopefully get to do) and my love for other cultures. You will truly be missed and my heart goes out to your daughter and family in this extremely tragic moment. I can only hope you've finally found the peace that so eluded you in life.

He was a man of the world. It's a shame he took his own life. He always seemed so enthralled to meet new people and cultures. He was a great entertainer and I bet he made friends in every city and country he visited. He'll be missed.

  6. After four days of playing I finally beat Detroit: Become Human or should I say finished my first play through and boy was it a pleasure. It's been a very long time since I've played a game with such an amazing story behind it and it's been even longer since I've felt such emotion while playing. This is my game of the year and nothing will come close to over taking it. A little early to be saying this? Probably but the chances another game as rich in story, character development, and emotional attachment coming out this year is slim to none. Games like these are what influenced my decision to get my degree (even if I'm not using it or working in the industry) and it's games like this that I've always wanted to create.

True, the story has problems (and an extremely slow start after the first mission (the demo mission if you haven't played it)) and borrows heavily from real life events (civil rights movement is the big parallel with Markus coming off as the android MLK (depending on what choices you make)) and covers some pretty heavy subjects (domestic abuse, drug use, what does it mean to really be alive, etc) but they are few and far between and do little to detract from the narrative being told (in fact I think it gives the story more character). This game also does an extremely good job of making you feel the consequences of the choices you make and drives those points home later on down the line (every choice you make effects how the story ends, even the most mundane).

All three main characters are interesting in their own ways and it was a joy seeing them all evolve throughout the course of the story and while I admit some of them were bland (Connor coming to mind, his character arch is the most interesting but his character is rather bland until about half way through the game) that hardly detracts from the story. If I had to choose I'd say Kara's story was my favorite for pure emotional reasons and Connor's being the most enjoyable (mostly due to the Detective he works with). Don't get me wrong Markus's story is good and the beginning of it really makes you feel for him but overall it doesn't outshine the other two. Plus the actor's they got to play these characters did an extremely amazing job bringing these characters to life so much so that I became emotionally attached to each one of them (this goes for secondary characters as well, I had to make some real hard choices at the end of the game and it was heartbreaking to do so).

While I'm not one to gush about graphics I must say this game is beyond beautiful and the motion capture and animation are top notch (not to mention the starting screen is probably the most unique one to date). It's obvious this is a game and everything is CG but sometimes you forget given how well they nailed the likeness of the actors/actresses they used (almost all the main characters and certain side characters share their likeness with the actor/actress that portrayed them). I also have to say the soundtrack is rather amazing (now to rip it off my PS4 for my listening pleasure).

All in all this game was an emotional ride and probably the best $70 I've spent on a game in years. I can't recommend it enough but I warn you this game is not for everyone. There is very little action (and what little there is completely consists of quick time events) and it's completely character driven, think of it as a CYOA movie that takes some input from the audience. Plus if you've never played a Quantic Dream game (Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls) then you probably won't really enjoy it. However if this sounds like something you'd like I highly recommend it. As I said it's been a really long time since I've enjoyed a game this much and I can't wait to play it again this weekend to try out the paths I didn't take (and to get all the trophies, this will probably be the only game I 100%) and see the other endings (I got what could be considered the best ending).

Sounds great. Lady liked heavy rain back in the day. I bet she'll really like this. :D

While I have yet to play Heavy Rain (I got a copy of the PS4 remake/remaster with my purchase of the Digital Deluxe Version of Detroit, will probably start playing it here soon) if she liked it I'm pretty sure she'll love Detroit. I can't stress enough how much I love this game (you can ask my co-worker, it's all I've been talking about since yesterday (luckily he hasn't been annoyed yet because he's been playing it too)).

  7. Heh, I was going to play this over the weekend since it was free but Blizzard yet again picks one of the worst weekends for me to do this. Between the new FFXIV content patch on Tuesday (so much to fucking do x.x) and Detroit: Become Human having come out on Friday I don't have the time (which I'm fucking loving Detroit, probably the best $70 I've spent in a long time). Sucks because I really wanted to try out Brigette, I'll just have to wait until the next free weekend.
  8. I like what I'm hearing now they just need to deliver (I liked a lot of what I heard about BF1 but it was never really delivered on imo). Honestly happy that it's WWII (yea I know everybody wants modern and what not) and I like they're keeping the War Stories SP around as that was one of the main things I loved about BF1 (though I still haven't beaten the last set yet) and I really like that it's going to be stories we haven't heard and battles we haven't seen (nice little touch). I could honestly care less about soldier customization (honestly I don't see the point. The only games I care about being able to customize my character on are MMO's and some action/rpg games) but it's nice they're finally allowing it more so than before. The whole archetype class and weapon system sounds interesting especially since I'm one of those guys that ends up doing to things no one wants and I actually play my class the way it's meant to be (I have a feeling I'll be leaning heavily toward support or medic depending on what sounds like more fun), I just hope it's implemented well and not just thrown into the game like Behemoths and Elite Classes were in BF1. Grand Operations sounds fun especially since its kinda what we were supposed to get in BF1 but never did and I'm extremely happy that Conquest is going back to what it used to be (about time). Not to sure how I feel about Fortifications. Sounds interesting but only if it's done right, will have to wait on actual gameplay footage of this feature before I fully give my opinion. All in all it sounds like a return to what made BF what it is along with adding new things that will eventually be ripped off them by someone else. Not going to jump on the bandwagon though, I'll wait until it comes out before I buy it instead of pre-ordering it (as I'm sick of getting burned) even if that means no beta access.
  9. I just finished watching it and I adore this show. When you ask yourself what Strider looks for in anime this is it, this is what I love to watch. This was just a joy to watch and while it really hits you in the feels it just so well done. It's been such a long time since I last watched a show that truly moved me like this one did and such a long time since we've had an anime so character driven that it saddens me. We need more shows like this, ones driven forward by a compelling story and such well developed and lovely characters (enough with the harem anime, enough with the long running shounen crap, give us shows like this). To make it even better the soundtrack is amazing and the animation is top notch (of course it is coming from KyoAni, the very studio that brought us Clannad and Kanon (two breathtakingly beautiful shows)). The show is not without its flaws (and by what I understand it's not a true adaptation of the novel (it ends completely differently than the novel)) it's not enough to detract from what is being told and shown. I'm with DX on this and can't recommend this enough. Sure there's very little action, sure it's a sappy story, sure the characters are cutesy but god damn it look beyond it and give it shot. In the last two days I've shed many manly tears because of this show and am not afraid to admit it (I'm getting sappy in my old age). Bravo Netflix, you have finally delivered to me an anime that I can truthfully say will go down as one of my all time favorite shows and an anime that has truthfully left me breathless. I hope the new Violet Evergarden project delivers us more of this wonderful world and story, I just can't get enough of it (I might re-watch it again this weekend that's how much I love it).
  10. I'm honestly hoping it's WWII. I never got to play the original BF and I find the lack of a good WWII shooter to be disheartening. I wouldn't be mad if it was another modern one but the thing I want back most is pretty much the same progression system as BF4. BF1 was a catastrophe in the respect (I still think BF1 was a good game but sadly it just lost it's luster way to fast). I'm pretty sure Premium won't be a thing this time around (or at least I hope so, console never really got hit as hard by the paywall as PC players did or at least I didn't notice it all that much when I still played but it is still noticeable) unless EA wants to keep making stupid mistakes (then again I wouldn't be surprised if they went with it again).
  11. You can't actually blame them with how successful R6S is, it's pretty much the king of team based tactical shooters atm though, based on what little I know because I really have no interest in COD anymore, this is probably the worst decision they could of made. COD will never be team focused no matter how hard you try, to many dudebro casuals and trihards play COD and as well all know from experience team based content in COD never actually works because no one ever works as a team (which is why Search and Destroy was objective based TDM after COD4, saddened me greatly since that's my favorite mode). Those who do will always win (a sad truth of R6S and one of the main reasons I stopped playing, I love the game to death but no one ever wants to communicate on console and it's fucking sad) and it will frustrate those that want to old COD run and gun experience. Focusing on Zombies and a probable BR mode is also entirely stupid but it's Activision so are we all really that surprised? The exclusion of the campaign is probably a good move on their part. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed COD4 and WaW's campaigns but you have to admit they were poorly written and poorly put together. Honestly people have been complaining that they should just stick to multiplayer and now that they are I'm confused as to why we're everyone is having a shit fit. God damn gamers are fickle as hell, finally get what you want but bitch about it anyways.
  12. I'm going to preface this by saying I'm normally not a fan of Super Robot mech shows (more of a Real Robot guy myself (Gundam/Macross)) and never really have been (there are exceptions but they are few) so that will tell you just how much I adored this show.

It took me 11 years to finally sit down and watch it (and it's spent many years on my Netflix to watch list (I watched in on CR though) but I finished Gurren Lagann tonight and I have to say I absolutely fucking adored it. I don't understand why it took me so long to finally watch it but god am I glad I finally did. I haven't been this pumped after watching a show since I finished Kill la Kill (funny considering Trigger is also responsible making that gem). I'll admit it was a little rough in the beginning and if it wasn't for Kamina I would of dropped it but man am I glad I stuck through it, it only kept getting better. I'll admit, my taste for shows like this has dwindled over the years and I'm not really into the over the top, ridiculous shit anymore but god this just scratched an itch I didn't even know I had. Sure, I have my issues with the show (some pretty poor character development in some of the secondary characters, story is a little hard to follow after a certain point, some of the mech based science bugs me, and the whole Spiral Energy thing is ridiculous) but god damn do they seem insignificant when put up against an awesome soundtrack, awesome visuals (a little jenky considering how old it is), and a downright stellar main cast.

If it wasn't for my absolute love for Zeta Gundam this might have taken the place as my all time favorite mech anime (you all know me well enough to know how high of praise this is). I can't wait to watch the movies this weekend (yea they're recaps but apparently the second movie makes the final fight even more epic then it already was) and I'm sad to think there is no more of this wonderful show to watch (manly tears were shed at this realization).

Finally got both movies watched and I have to say for recap/condensation movies they were pretty damn good.

The first one was what you'd expect from a condensation of the first 15 episodes and while it was good some of the changes were kinda weird (like the final battle with the Four Generals, while I like this version somewhat more than the original fights it left out a lot of what motivated Simon to break out of his meek self and into the person he became) and a little off-putting. Overall though enjoyable.

Now the second one was, well I just don't know how to put it because I don't think there is a word in any language that can describe just how pure fucking awesome it was. Again some of the changes were weird and off-putting but that final battle was beyond awesome, probably the most enjoyable 30 minutes I've ever seen in a movie. Pure fucking insanity is the only real way to summarize it.

Without a doubt this is probably going to go down as one of my all time favorite mech anime and anime of all time (nothing will ever beat out Zeta Gundam for top mech anime but this is a close fucking second and Aria will always remain my all time favorite anime but this is close up there (displaced by like 5 or 6 other shows, definitely in the top 10 though)). After watching the movies I just can't talk myself out of buying this now and I must own this for my collection (I just wish it didn't cost so much x.x). I didn't think Trigger could top Kill la Kill for me but they did and did it before Kill la Kill was even created, god damn this show and the movies were amazing (I just wish it didn't take me 11 years to finally watch it).

I never did watch the movies but now I'm going to after reading what you said. I always thought since they were just recaps of the series that it'd be better to just rewatch the series but that second movie must be amazing.

    4. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

For the final fight alone the second movie is worth watching, it's just that fucking awesome. As I said there are some changes that just seemed weird to me (mostly with story and character flow, they retconned a lot of what happened in the last 3-4 eps and completely condensed the whole Anti-Spiral reveal/Simon arrest into like 10-15 minutes) but the movies are worth a watch (though overall the story is laid out better and the characters progress more fluidly in the series) if you want to say you've had the complete TTGL experience (though they underplay Kamina a lot more than I'd of preferred, he's still a major focus but it seems they really rushed through his arc to get to the more meaty story bits which felt like a complete disregard for his importance (the second movie does a good job and establishing how important he was but it felt really underplayed in the first movie)).

  13. Heh, just wait it gets worse. Just about every episode has been ending on a cliff hangar and episode 4 ups the stakes big time. I knew we were in for a hell off a season with this one but it's definitely a lot darker then the first two (I won't mention Fumoffu since it's pretty much just a comedy anyways). I just can't wait until we get to see something that I wish I could mention (if you pay attention to the opening you'll see what I mean), going to be fucking awesome.
  14. I haven't played it but you do get one more weapon in the game but I won't say what it is since I don't want to ruin it for DX if he hasn't gotten that far yet (I've seen the entirety of the game played through on Twitch). Gotta say I've never been interested in the GoW series but after seeing people play through it on Twitch I might just have to pick this up eventually, the story is extremely fucking good and the game play looks awesome.
  15. Oh yeah, you better get hyped because this season looks like shit is going to ramp up exponentially (yea, since I watch subs I already got to watch the first ep on CR). All I have to say is I'm so fucking glad the wait is over (a friend of mine has read the novels and has been spoiling shit for me for years so I'm finally happy to get to watch it).
