  1. Yea 6 was the first Ace title to have multiplayer and while it wasn't bad it wasn't that good either. Honestly all it came down to is what plane was being used (90% of the time it was the F/A-22, Su-33 Flanker, or the Su-47) and what missiles were being used (XMAA's almost exclusively since those were some of the only planes that carried them). While I was still big into it what it came down to was who could lock onto the enemy team faster with XMAA's and whether or not they were good enough to out run said XMAA's. Skill played no actual role at all in multiplayer because of this. In fact those who use planes in BF1 are probably much better pilots due to the limitations and controls (if you can master BF flight controls you are in ace in my book) and I doubt many of them will got to 7 when it comes out unless they're big fans of the series. Most people don't even know what Ace Combat is outside of 6 and Assault Horizon (probably the worst titles to be associated with the Ace series (6 was good but it's story was lacking though it had some of the best air battles in an Ace series second only to Zero (they don't call you the "Demon of the Round Table" for nothing in Zero)). This is by far the best plane in the game DX (sadly it's a 6 exclusive as it's the Super Plane of the title but those SUU-38 ADMM's were amazingly broken (a missile pod that locked on to 18 targets with missiles aka 18 confirmed kills every time it was used), thankfully the Nosferatu couldn't be used in multiplayer) though I do agree the F/A-22 is by far the best plane in all of the games that featured it. It was a long grind to unlocking it though I was always partial to my F-16 (damn you Zero for my obsession with that plane). I always used the F/A-22 until I unlocked the super/experimental plane for the title, then it took a back seat to that plane until I got bored of it and went back to the F/A-22. The X-02 Wyvern will always remain my favorite plane out of any Ace title though, it's like a F/A-22 on crack
  2. Oh god D2, the years I lost to that game (most of high school in fact). Whirlwind Barbs were nuts. A friend of mine had one fully decked out in all the best gear, made Baal runs so much faster with him around. I always had a soft spot for Sorcs and Necros, playing both a Lightning Sorc (chain spec) and Bone Nec (so op it's not even funny, nothing in the game is immune to his magic because it's not elemental based. Made Hell Baal runs so easy it wasn't even funny). God what I wouldn't give for another game like D2 to come out (Torchlight 2 is close but it doesn't have enough classes and it's talent trees aren't as indepth) or an HD remake to come out (hint hint Blizz, you'll make a shit ton of cash if you did an HD remake). Don't get me wrong AC4 still had a lot of customization but it dumbed down a lot of what made the other titles so much more in depth. Shit once you figured out the ultimate weapon combo you could literally make the game your bitch (unlike AC3 where there was no ultimate combo, everything you did ended up screwing you one way or another in that game. In fact I still haven't beaten it to this day because of that). That combination is shoulder mounted Grenade Launchers and hand carried grenade launchers. They've got insane damage ratings and you don't even need to get direct hits, most enemies will die just from splash damage. My friend came across the combo and it pretty much broke the game when it came to difficulty (I'm only missing 3 achievements because the layout doesn't work for two missions to get S rankings which sucks, tried making a full laser mech but I couldn't get it to work correctly because I kept running out of energy and loosing my primal armor (and thats with the best generator in the game)). The most broken thing about the mech is it never runs out of energy so you can fly indefinitely and never loose your primal armor (the only way to run it out of energy is to overboost and it takes 3 minutes at overboost to drain it completely). AC5 on the other hand put to much emphasis on team play since it was the first co-op title out there so they dumbed the customization down a lot and pretty much killed the game for me (I hear AC5: Verdict Day fixed a lot of the problems but I never did buy it because I was so disappointed with 5).
  3. Oh hell no. Ace Combat controls are so much different and laid out so much better on the controller it's not even funny. Battlefield really needs to look at Ace controls and, honestly, just outright copy them. Everything is so perfectly laid out it's like a dream. All the weapons are on easily accessed buttons, throttle and brake are triggers (R2 and L2), Yaw is L1 and R1, joysticks are mapped perfectly for flight, and oh so much more. Assault Horizon's dogfight mode was annoying as hell and it was the only way to actually take out most fighters with one hit. Honestly the game wasn't all that bad it just had a shitty plot with a very shitty setting (never, ever place an Ace Combat game in the real world again Bandai Namco. It just doesn't work). I finished it and outside of the final duel with the "Shark" it was all pretty lackluster. Considering how well co-op did for 6 and for Assault Horizon I'm pretty sure we'll see it included in 7. All I know is I seriously can't wait, I just re-watched the trailer and I'm shaking with withdrawal. I might have to dig out the PS2 and play me some Ace Combat 4, 5 and Zero this weekend (yes they are all easily beatable in a weekend and I have beaten every single one on Ace of Aces/Hard mode (that's how much I love these games)).
  4. So pretty much like what AC4 did to the AC series. The amount of customization in 4 compared to 3 was atrocious (though 4 did make up for it in other ways, like taking out the heat mechanic that crippled my energy mech). 5 barely had any customization outside of weapon types but your mechs were all pretty limited (which was retarded, we went from having mechs that could fly in AC4 to completely grounded mechs in five that could barely jump). The early footage looks good, I might actually look into getting it if it keeps on looking like that. I'll have to see if my friend has heard about this and seen the footage, his opinion will probably be my deciding factor on whether I do get it or not when it does eventually come out.
  5. Heard it and pfft (it's better then the other 5 or so theories I've heard but still cringe worthy). As much as Mace treaded the line between light and dark (due to his fighting style) he would never fall to the Dark Side of the Force and it was confirmed in the novelization of Movie 3 that Mace died. Snoke is much older then Mace and a lot more powerful in the Dark Side than even Palpatine (or so the current theory has it, it changes on a weekly basis by what I've seen for youtube videos on the subject). I'd believe Snoke was Darth Plagueis or even Palpatine (yea there is a theory going around that it's old Palps) before I'd believe he's Mace.
  6. I only hope its good otherwise my friend will slaughter the developers after the pathetic excuse of a game MW Online was (he was a founder and everything, really pissed him off when the game came out like it did. He's probably the biggest MW nerd and fan I've ever met). I never really got into them since I never had a computer when they came out and the only one I played (MW2) didn't wow me enough to even consider playing any of the other titles.
  7. ZoE kills me, its by far one of my favorite games but sadly Kojima can't do another one because Konami has the rights to it and it didn't sell well to begin with. It's one of the few mech games out there that actually played well (extremely well considering some of the other mech titles out at the time) and had a great story (well the first one was ok but it really pulled at your emotions, the second one had the better story but sadly not the emotional impact of the first). I really wish he could create another one but Konami won't give the rights up and he already said if the HD collection didn't sell well he wouldn't put the time into another one. Sigh, I'll just have to play the HD remake when I get nostalgic (at least there are rumors of a new Armored Core game coming out and I hope they're true, From Software owes me a great AC title after the disappointment of 5). Sadly I wouldn't have this backlog of games if I could step away from FFXIV long enough to play one (once my Ninja is in full i270 gear and I've completed my Anima weapon I'll have roughly 4-5 months before Stormblood releases to get caught up on games (then again I am a master procrastinator and I'll probably not touch them)). I miss the days before I got a computer and got into MMO's, when all my free time could be thrown into playing a game and completely beating it. Sadly I haven't been able to do that since ME3 and Assassin's Creed 3 (the last time I spent any real time in a game because FFXIV: ARR wasn't out yet and I couldn't play SWTOR due to internet problems). Then again back in those days I had a normal job where I worked 8 hours a day instead of 10 and I was only working 40 hours a week and not 40+ hours a week (plus I was working nights which meant I had no social life what so ever and could spend my days off mindlessly grinding in games). Sigh, this adulting shit sucks. I would say you'd be smart to wait on getting WD2, I hear nothing but bad things about the game and while they fixed a lot of what made the first one boring they introduced more stuff that made the game worse off. I'm quite sure a lot of MGS fans will be disappointed in this game but that's to be expected. It's something different from what Kojima is known for and that will probably haunt him more than help him years from now. He'll always be the father of MGS, the man who brought us an extremely expansive story that has entertained and frustrated gamers for almost 20 years (Metal Gear was released in 1987). Anything he does from now on will always be compared to the MGS series. Then again this game might just be his next MGS and launch him even further into industry fame. Only time will tell.
  8. A nerf without a patch is pretty unlikely. DICE is pretty good at being transparent with gun nerfs and changes and they would of let us know. I did notice the servers were being extremely finicky last night for me (hell I wanted to play Conquer Hell but I couldn't connect to any server for it that's why I did Kaiser) so it might be a server thing (I've noticed that the servers have been really bad lately. Well for me anyways). Based on the problems you had with enemy snipers I'd definitely say it was a server issue or a connection issue (I've been having a lot of those lately as well) but I didn't have any trouble with zeroing my Russian last night while I was sniping on Amiens.
  9. Makes sense, why spend 2-3 years developing a new engine from scratch when there's one that can do what you want for free (well not exactly but I'm sure he'll get full use of it without spending a penny). That's the reason a lot of developers use the Unreal Engine, the licensing costs come out to be less then what you'd spend on software engineers to develop one from scratch (and you're talking senior level software engineers at roughly $80,000-$90,000 a year salaries (he'd be looking at 5-6 of those at least to develop a new engine)). Plus considering he had to leave his baby behind at Konami this is just easier (plus I'm sure there is some pressure on Sony's end to get this game out and see if it's worth the investment they put into Kojima (yes he has a great track record but still, a new IP is a dangerous thing especially right now in an industry where original IP's are failing in the AAA category and Kojima doesn't do Indie)). Honestly from what we've seen of Horizon I wouldn't be surprised if Kojima gets exactly what he wants and more out of the engine (I mean that footage is amazing). Onto the actual footage, I honestly don't know if I'll pick this up or not. I'm into games that fuck with your mind but this one just doesn't look like it's something I'd enjoy. As Phil put it in the new Spacebar episode, Kojima has done weird and we've come to expect it out of him. Every game he's ever worked on has been weird (look at the MGS series, you can't tell me a lot of the stuff going on in that game isn't weird), its about time he does something more than weird to sell a game (I honestly don't think the guy can do normal, which isn't a bad thing but it'd be a nice change). I'll keep an eye on it but I doubt I'll buy it (considering my current backlog and the rate at which I've been playing games other then FFXIV and BF1 it'll be a few years before I find the free time to play anything else (I've still got to beat DA: Inquistion, Skyrim, Mafia III, and start MGSV and FFX/X-2 Remake not to mention finish Watch Dogs, AC4, and Shadows of Mordor. God I really need to let go of my MMO addiction and get shit done)).
  10. I had my own ammo crate near me. It's hard to see because we bottle necked C so there were like 5 other ammo crates on the ground due to the amount of people we had sitting there (I believe that was their second attack when I got that, was freaking intense at C). It was probably one of the most intense matches I've had in Operations in a long while.

I failed to do this when I finally got the weapon upgraded to it i260 version two weeks ago. Wasn't a hard quest to do which means when patch 3.5 hits the last step for i270 is going to be a bitch. As you can see the weapon now has glowy bits on it (as I predicted) and it's called the Sharpened Spurs of the Thorn Prince. Yes my glamour on my armor has changed mostly due to replacing my old gear. What you see is a mix of the i210 Ninja Relic Armor (or the Iga set as it's called. Those pieces would be the chest piece, gloves, and boots), the Miqo'te Female Skirt dyed black (starting clothing when you first start out as a female Miqo'te (the cat race that my character is)), and the Minstrel's Spectacles dyed black. Might be hard to make them all out in the image but that's what the armor glamour is made up of. Wanted to go for a more ninja feel until I get my Alexander Chest piece so I can glamour that with the rest of the set onto my armor. Any character you might see in the screenshots are NPC's by the way, I took these screenshots in the city-state of Gridania (whose Grand Company (Order of the Twin Adder) my character serves in as a First Serpent Lieutenant).

  15. So I got on tonight just planning on seeing if the Premium Battlepack had dropped (it has, got the Legendary Bodeo skin out of it) and ended up playing a round of Operations on Kaiser (I'm not going to attempt to spell the whole thing) which had us getting pushed back to Amiens (was defending). We won but while doing so I got the most awesome Pentakill ever on a Heavy Tank with old Lumpy himself and I have a clip of it to show as well (finally figured out how to use ShareFactory to edit videos and upload, yea I'm slow but I honestly had no interest in posting vids till now. When I do get around to it I'll post that kill I got on an airplane using the landships side cannon).
  16. Meh, Soldier in 1 was amazing and you could tell the game was designed completely around playing a Soldier. 2 made the Soldier not so desirable for me as it lost a lot of what made it awesome in 1 in the transition (that being the new ammo system, my Soldier in 1 could fire his AR without it ever overheating). Considering my Soldier never made it into 3 as I still haven't beaten two with him yet (I was going to do that over my 4 day weekend last week but Skyrim put a hold on that) I don't know how good they were. Sadly powers in the first game were shit and 2 and 3 really made them shine. Sentinel was amazing. With Tech Armor you could pretty much run into any fight like a Soldier and tank the damage. With the addition of Biotic powers it was a powerhouse. Plus if you did Samara's loyalty mission in 2 you got access to Reave, one of the most broken Biotic powers in the game. Not only does it return health to you when it hits it hits like a truck. That with Warp and Throw made the Sentinel a blast to play (gun play wise they were lacking being stuck to SMG's and Pistols but that was a minor inconvenience). Infiltrators were just broken from the get go with their Sniper Rifles and cloaking ability. Meh, I'm not looking forward to this new scanning component of the game as it looks like it's more of a chore then a natural thing and gathering doesn't look fun at all. I already to enough of that shit in FFXIV (minus the scanning), I don't want to be spending hours gathering components for new armor, weapons, etc. The fact the planets have become open again and the amount of exploring to be done has me extremely interested, I missed that component in 2 and 3 (though 1 wasn't that great for exploration because all the planets were exactly the same just with different resource nodes and places you could visit).
  17. There is a multiplayer component as well just to let you know Sledge but it's completely optional (just like ME3's was (well was supposed to be but I won't get into that)). It looks amazing and the gun play looks a lot better then it ever has been but they just couldn't let go of the fucking ammo component could they. Sigh, it'd be nice to have ME1's infinite ammo/cooling system back. Sadly I don't know how hyped I'll really be until I see powers. I know they've done away with classes for the Pathfinder (which blows, I loved the one class aspect of ME) but I really want to know what powers are going to be in this one. Can I make my Pathfinder exactly like my Sentinel (by far the best class imo from ME2 and ME3 (best of both Tech and Biotic powers)? Can I shift more toward an Infiltrator build? I know I'm asking a lot here but a lot is riding on what is available to my character (I really want to play a Sentinel, that Tech Armor plus Biotic Powers was amazing).
  18. The RPD was probably the most OP LMG in COD4 so it's no surprise it never showed up again. Good god the killing sprees I could go on with that thing. One of the few times I ever enjoyed using an LMG in COD (the M60 was another good choice). Meh, the M4 was good for everything from close range to long and its recoil was extremely manageable which is why I used it constantly once unlocked (I threw in the AK only when I felt like pissing people off). The AK74u was a damn good weapon and I used it quite a bit when I wasn't MP5 Sniping or running Ghost (the P90 silenced was my weapon on my Ghost loadout). My true love was the M1014, that shotgun was freaking amazing. The killing sprees I went on with that gun are the stuff of legend (I kid but god damn was I good with that gun). Man I miss COD4, I really wish the original was still around (I've been hearing a lot of bad things about the Remaster) since I refuse to buy IW to get MWR. The only shooter game I've really enjoyed (I like Battlefield but COD4 is special, that game did everything right for me which is why MW2 was such a let down for me after they changed so much of what made MW so great) and the only one where I was extremely competitive in.
  19. I never really like the M16 and only used it for fast leveling when I was in the lower ranks. I always preferred the M4 if I was running a rifle in the original due to it being full-auto because burst fire weapons annoy the hell out of me (and we can blame the M16 for that as COD4 was my first real shooter besides Halo). Then again I am the guy who ran around almost exclusively with the P90 Silenced or MP5 Sniper (yes the MP5 was an effective sniper weapon with the ACOG scope on) because I loved the SMG gun mechanics in COD4 (that is when I wasn't sniping, god the R700 was a freaking beast of a gun). Sadly I didn't even agree with the original nerf back in COD4 for it because even if the weapon was great it still took a skilled player to use it as effectively as he did in that video. People forget COD used to be all about skill and map awareness, not who can jump and gun faster.
  20. Winter has finally attacked ND in full force. In just one day we've had 10 inches of snow and we're do for at least another 4-6 in my area alone before the end of Wednesday. It's lulled now but to be on the safe side I called into work today (thank god I have some vacation time to cover it) because driving home yesterday (I had to leave early because I did not want to drive in that shit at night) was a nightmare. Hopefully the DOT gets into full force today and gets the roads cleared and sanded so I can get to work tomorrow since this Charger hates ice and snow (my god the ass end of my car was sliding every which way yesterday no matter how slow I was going).

    1. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

Mostly sand, they run a liquid ice melter (they use the dry shut too from time to time) as well but for the most part they sand the roads out here. I'm starting to wish I had snow tires but I just need to get used to how this car handles, my Buick used to do the same shut till I learned how to handle it in winter (got to spoiled by Arizona winters for those 3 years I was down there).

A friend of mine used to be an expert with driving in the snow and ice, he'd purposefully slide the car all over the place with control and it blew my mind. I could do it to an extent but then I discovered snow tires and realized I could drive almost like normal during the winter without having my knuckles turn bleach white from gripping the steering wheel in terror for an hour on the freeway in a snow storm. XD

  21. Can this year be over with now? It's one gut punch after another. Ron Glass has passed away. Most may not know him unless they've seen his earlier work in Barney Miller, Sanford and Son, etc but I'll always remember him as Shepard Book from Firefly/Serenity and Garth from Fable 2. While I may not be a religious person his portrayal of Shepard Book always resonated with me. So long good Shepard, you will be sorely missed by the legions of Browncoats out there.

"I don't care what you believe. Just believe it." - Shepard Book

Those words have always resonated with me good sir, may you rest in piece.

RIP. I loved him in Firefly and Serenity. :(

  22. So I found my new favorite Medic weapon in BF1, the Cei-Rigotti Factory. I didn't notice until last night but it has a full-auto feature like the Sweeper and it's more accurate then the Sweeper. The 10 round mags kind of kills its killing potential but at least 80% of your shots will hit unlike the Sweeper. I'm also ashamed to say I was enjoying using the Model 10 Factory last night, I went on some killing sprees that surprised the hell out of me. I still say it needs a nerf but I understand why people like using it and it's Hunter loadout now, the gun is a beast.

    1. DeathscytheX

I took it for a spin again the other night and I just love the sweeper too much to give it up. I stick to trenches, tunnels, and flanks. If I fight long range I'm using the Martini. XD

It will be interesting to see what DLC brings to the medic class though. The French guns are missing from the game that I suppose will be added with their map pack. The RSC Model 1917 and Meunier A6 should both make it into the game. Since they have the Mondragon in the game which is a Mexican rifle, I'll be interested to see if they add the Chineses Liu. There is also a Madsen rifle that is top loaded like the LMG.

But the only thing I can see dethroning the Sweeper for me is the Fedorov Avtomat M1916. Just look at this beauty.

    2. DeathscytheX

I forgot to mention that the Avtomat is a Russian gun and it damn well better be in the Russian DLC with the Mosin.

    3. Sledgstone

I bet in the next DLC support will get a new gas mortar. If gas wasn't bad enough now, imagine every support guy shooting 5 rounds of gas around a flag and 2 smoke right on it. XD

  23. If you actually think about it there are maybe only a handful of attachments in this game (Optical Sights, Marksmen Sights, Sniper Scopes (aka 10x scopes), Foregrips, Bayonets, Different Iron Sights (and AA Sights for LMG's), and maybe a few others) they actually wouldn't have to rebalance much at all since the game is already balanced around most of these. All they would honestly have to do is slightly modify damage dealt by certain weapons pending on attachments (I mean not every Scout Rifle can carry a scope, that's understandable so you can limit which guns get what. Same with not every weapon can take a foregrip, etc.). I mean they can keep these limitations on what guns can use what attachments but let me pick what attachments I want on my guns in those categories, fuck this 3 different types for 4 different guns (depending on class). Its aggravating that I can only choose what DICE wants me to instead of customizing the weapon to my liking (seriously you rarely saw the same setups on guns in BF4, everyone ran what was personally better for them based on their play style). They only handicapped the weapons because they were to lazy to think about how to balance the game around the limited amount of attachments (there weren't that many options during this time frame) and because they fucked up royally with BF4's attachment system (compared to 3's 4's was a nightmare if you didn't go to sites that gave you the run down with what attachments did what with you're guns using actual hard numbers). Limpet Charges go pretty far if you arc it enough when you throw it (at least in the campaign you could). Honestly I don't think you're even supposed to be able to throw them, DICE just made it that way so they're slightly more useable.
  24. I forgot to post this the other day when I watched it. Ricky got to go down and interview some of the cast and the director. Pretty much this confirmed that they're using multiple sources for this movie, taking bits and pieces of what they liked from the original movie and the tv series and adding their own original flair. Just thought I'd post it for a little more background on the movie. I'd post the newest Spacebar ep from Primr but half the episode talks about the new mini-NES console and Black Friday but the last half goes over GitS as well (just their thoughts and ideas) but it's almost 30 minutes long and you guys can look for it of you're interested (plus like I said the first half is just random crap).
  25. Historically speaking there's plenty of reasons for not having that many vehicles and that's one thing I give DICE, they're going for historical accuracy here (which is why a lot of the battles we're doing take place in 1917-1918, tanks weren't around for the first half of the war). Due to the scarcity of tanks on the battlefield it makes sense we only see 2-4 at a time. Planes on the other hand should be extremely abundant as should armored cars. I constantly use self-heal when I'm in a tank as I understand the need to keep the tank in combat for as long as possible (which is why you'll constantly see me attacking objectives and backing off so I can repair) and since very few Supports actually carry the mechanic tool it's almost a necessary to use it. They should leave it in but give people more incentive to use it instead of driving into a point and letting it get destroyed like so many other people do. Honestly I think Support is fine where it's at, it doesn't need the Anti-Tank grenade. A proper Support player should be making sure their Assault teammates are constantly supplied so the need shouldn't even be there (plus Limpet Charges are extremely effective, people just need to quit using the mortar so god damn much (yes I know I love the mortar but I think I'm going to start carrying the limpet charge from now on)). I do agree though that Light Tanks/Artillery Trucks need to spawn on specific flags and not be able to even be chosen from spawn (in certain game modes). Landships and Heavy Tanks are always needed and should always be a priority when choosing a tank. If they can rework the progression system into something that actually rewards players for what they do I would be more gung-ho about playing this game. I miss the old ribbon/medal system and the old way we unlocked guns. This war bond shit needs to go and an attachment system needs to be implemented as I'm not a fan of this 3 different loadouts for guns thing we got going on. Let us decide how we set our guns up not do it for us. I feel DICE is just getting lazy and is afraid of being ridiculed for recycling tried and true systems (though I will admit the attachment system in BF4 was extremely flawed and needed some serious work to rebalance it properly). Honestly I'm surprised you're not burned out yet DX. With as much as you play I'd of thought you'd be sick of it by now, especially considering you have every class at 10 now. The only joy I get out of playing now is with you guys or if I'm playing Domination (and the Domination thing is quickly becoming a less fun thing every second because of that damn Model 10). As I said Operations are getting boring because it's the same 4 sets of maps all the time (and at least for me it always ends on the first map, I haven't seen Argonne is so long I'm beginning to think it doesn't even exist (and it's my favorite map besides Monte Grappa)) and everything always plays out the same way (either attack steamrolls defense or defense steamrolls attack, there really is no middle ground).
