    H2O: Dangerous Chemical!
    A student at Eagle Rock Junior High won first prize at the Greater Idaho Falls Science Fair, April 26. He was attempting to show how conditioned we have become to alarmists practicing junk science and spreading fear of everything in our environment. In his project he urged people to sign a petition demanding strict control or total elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen monoxide." And for plenty of good reasons, since:

    it can cause excessive sweating and vomiting
    it is a major component in acid rain
    it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
    accidental inhalation can kill you
    it contributes to erosion
    it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
    it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients

    He asked 50 people if they supported a ban of the chemical.
    The title of his prize winning project was, "How Gullible Are We?"

    Forty-three (43) said yes,
    six (6) were undecided,
    and only one (1) knew that the chemical was water.

    He feels the conclusion is obvious.
    This was found on the newsgroup: rec.humor.funny
    Why do people not know what water is? Better yet how do people not know what water is? (...I fear the answers to these questions...)

    I was a practicing Lutheran for the first 20 years of my life. I was raised as a kid to attend church every week, sunday school, a week or two of christian summer school a year, catechism classes, etc. I believe in god. I don't attend church anymore. I do not need to attend a church to fulfill any religious obligations or to further my knowledge on christianity. Many church sermons started becoming very similar to me over the years, preaching only the good parts of the bible to promote a better way of living. And that was fine but theres a large majority of churches that do a different way of preaching.
    Churches are exempt from taxes as they are religious organizations, however, if a church preaches any political views they no longer have a tax exemption. Many huge churches do not have tax exemptions and they preach their political views into their sermons. These churches like to preach some of the darker parts of the bible to reinforce their own political views through fear and with religious guidance as to how they can change their community or nation through their religious actions and votes. This is not fine. These churches acquire huge fan bases of people that want to take their religion and force their views onto others through political votes, political sponsorships of candidates, etc.
    The United States is supposed to have 'separation of church and state'. But this is not the case. Far too many political figures state their own personal religious beliefs to justify their positions on subjects or when casting different votes. To me that is outrageous and the epitome of someone forcing their religion down my throat. It also sets a horrible precedent. What if someday christianity is no longer the majority religion in the United States? What if islam becomes a majority and their religious views are implemented into our government? What if the president doesn't say "God be with us all" and instead references Allah? Wouldn't the now minority of christians in america get pissed off? Before any of this happens, the US should follow its own constitution and separate religion from government. But until that happens, christianity is getting a bad rap because its seen as the religious domination of our government. And if a religion is dominating a government, then that is a form of oppression.

    I agree with Dubu on this one. I am an Atheist, pure and simple. I may not know what "it" is, but I know what "it" isn't.
    I believe everyone should believe what they are comfortable with. To each their own. It does not matter what someone's belief or lack of belief is, if they're an asshat, they're an asshat, period. Just because they are an asshat for Jesus or an asshat for nothing at all, it doesn't change the fact.
    In my opinion, if you try to -push- anything on someone, you're a douche. Agree to disagree and move on with your life.

    Mmm! And only $9.95 a can!
    Here's the official description on ThinkGeek:
    Pâté is passé. Unicorn - the new white meat.
    Excellent source of sparkles!
    Unicorns, as we all know, frolic all over the world, pooping rainbows and marshmallows wherever they go. What you don't know is that when unicorns reach the end of their lifespan, they are drawn to County Meath, Ireland. The Sisters at Radiant Farms have dedicated their lives to nursing these elegant creatures through their final days. Taking a cue from the Kobe beef industry, they massage each unicorn's coat with Guinness daily and fatten them on a diet comprised entirely of candy corn.
    As the unicorn ages, its meat becomes fatty and marbled and the living bone in the horn loses density in a process much like osteoporosis. The horn's outer layer of keratin begins to develop a flavor very similar to candied almonds. Blending the crushed unicorn horn into the meat adds delightful, crispy flavor notes in each bite. We are confident you will find a world of bewilderment in every mouthful of scrumptious unicorn meat.

    Personally it disturbs me to no end to see Congress, both at a state and especially at a federal level, doing these things.
    The US has always been a haven for those who are persecuted in one manner or another. Many of our ancestors were victims of religious persecutions in Europe and elsewhere, its why they decided to make the trip.
    Our constitution demands that Church (religion of any kind) and State (any level of government) be separate entities and that they should have NO involvement with one another. Any entanglement of Church and State should be expelled from the position that they are in. The government is elected for and by the people. As such it is our best interests that they serve, not their own. Not those with the money or power to grant them what they wish. But the people of this country.
    So frickin tired of politics and church getting in the way of progression and our freedoms.

    Khellendross reacted to gokuDX7 in Fox has no idea what Net Neutrality is
    For the third time I've heard them try and push their viewers to fight against Net Neutrality without even explaining what it is to their uneducated viewers. They claim Net Neutrality is bad because it allows ISPs, company's, and the government control over your Internet. The reality of it is Fox has it backwards. Like the name implies Net Neutrality is the act of keeping the net free and unregulated like it has been since it was created. Every since Senator McCain proposed his backwards ass "Internet Freedom Act." bill to congress, Fox News and other media outlets have been pushing this uneducated babble that Net Neutrality and the FCC are bad LOL.
    Here's some videos for those that are still confused
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWt0XUocViE]YouTube - Save the Internet![/ame]
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9jHOn0EW8U]YouTube - Net Neutrality[/ame]
    The reason this is blowing up so big now is because ISP's have been throttling and prioritizing web traffic, specifically bittorrent, and getting attacked by the FCC because of it. ISPs are complaining that the FCC hasnt given a fine line on what they can and cant do so they go a head with such practices of prioritizing certain program protocols on the Internet (ex. VoIP phones). So the FCC has stepped up and will be making that fine line clear so ISPs wont have any more excuses on what they can and cant do. The FCC will not be taking away our freedom or give ISPs the power to prioritize programs. They're fighting for us yet the media has it all backwards.
