    I bought this game last night and became instantly aware of how bad my skill has degraded for 2D precision platforming. I made it to Block Man and got rekt, went to bed and started over again the next day. So far I have beaten Block Man, Blast Man, and Acid Man. I figured Blast Man would have Block Man's weakness and I was right. Thankfully Blast Man's double gear power wasn't as suffocating as Block Man's.
    The premise starts with a flashback to Dr. Light and Wily's college years, where Wily's double gear invention was rejected over whatever Dr. Light made. Out of a long game revenge, Dr. Wily arrives at Dr. Light's lab in the present and steals 8 of his robots, completely ignoring Mega Man as one of them, because that makes sense. He turns them evil of course and gives them the Double Gear system. This enhances their ability mid fight, changing up the old formula of out dodge and shoot. Dr. Light gives you the double gear prototype that is trash by comparison... all you can do is get temporary bursts of power or speed based off one meter. If the meter overheats you are locked out of double gear until it cools down. If you're low on health you can use both at the same time to get both benefits at the cost of not being able to cancel it forcing it to go on lockout mode when overheated. Managing this meter is a new wrinkle in the classic Mega Man formula the game generally sticks to. While overheating can be a hassle, enemies will sometimes drop a gear that will speed up your cool down or negate it altogether. Both the speed and power gears use the same cool down meter, so you can't just swap over and get a new meter, it will just finish overheating if you were on the brink before turning it off.
    Through out the levels  in hard to reach areas and as enemy drops, flashing bolts serve as currency to purchase upgrades for Mega Man, you can buy extra lives, energy tanks, weapon tanks, as basic commodities... I assume you could buy 9000 lives, but it would be sorta a waste. Once you run out of lives, the game over penalty is just having to restart the stage from the start, you don't lose any progress as the old school password system is gone, and loads and saves are in. There are more useful upgrades like faster cool down for the double gear, faster movement speed when the speed gear is active, and spike boots to limit slipping on ice. There are also convenience items like an upgrade that makes picking up refill capsules auto-fill the lowest weapon you have when in base form, beat calls where beat will pick you up out of a hole if you fall, and even an item that halves damage taken during a stage until you die once.
    The stages are a mixed bag for me. It still has the typical Mega Man annoyances. Block Man's stage which is in the free demo I believe, has a few sections where a spike column chases you on a conveyor belt while you blast through structures slowing down time at critical moments. Trying to jump up through these stationary maze structures can be tricky as the physics still treat you like your still on the conveyor belt pushing you one way when you're trying to jump up and through a tight spot. They also have the classic "trying to climb up this later, while the screen moves up to the next section, but damn here comes a floaty enemy straight down on me where I can't shoot at him" This can be remedied by slowing down time, but it can still be an annoyance as you have to wait for the first spawn to come down to where you can kill it and try again. And they make sure its on something where if you mess up and still get hit, you get pushed back off the platform and back down to try and climb up again.
    The Boss fights themselves can be tough. The double gear mode for these bosses varies. Block Man gets enraged and turns into a giant block monster taking up half the room. You can't jump through or pass him while he ground slams, punches, and throws huge blocks at you. You also can't hit him with your regular buster shots unless he's taking a step or is leaned over a certain way because his critical hit spot is too high to jump to and shoot. When you beat his block monster form, he goes apeshit throwing blocks rapidly at you. What is crazy is when you beat them, along with the flashy circles explosion they scream making it kinda morbid. Especially since they were your friends before all this happened. I'll leave a video below if you want to hear it.

    Yeah, that was about my reaction! I've talked to a few contacts in the wildlife industry, and from what I've been hearing the most, is the mothball solution is actually an old wives tale. Most of the guys I've talked to say while the mothballs can help, the toxicity can react with any guano causing a more dangerous version of the mold that grows on the guano naturally. I'd go for a cat, but my eldest and my granddaughter both are allergic to cats. Either way, we're going to try the bat houses first, then go to the pro's if it comes down to it. I'll keep ya posted in the future as to what happens!

    So on a whim I dropped $60 on this game. Even though it was on PS4, I wanted to have something to play on my much neglected Switch. I casually followed this game up to its release and it looked fun gameplay-wise. I got a lot more than I expected and walked away from this game delighted. I've never played a Ys game before, and after some research I learned that you really don't need to play any of them to enjoy one besides the first two that are one story. Each game is a new story that focuses around the main protagonist Adol Christin. Most of these games are old school top down Link to the Past type games. This is the first to go 3D third person apparently.  The graphics are certainly dated. They don't look much better on the PS4. Although in bigger environments there was some heavy pixilation of the characters and everything else. This only happened in one area of the world though.
    The story was actually REALLY good. It was very light hearted through and through, but it was well written, and kudo's to the localization team for putting in a very good effort for the voice acting. I think there is some type of controversy over some of the text dialogue as there happened to have been some misspellings and grammar errors. Eh, I caught maybe one or two but it didn't really bother me. They're suppose to patch it next month either way. I adore the story and how well it was paced through the 50+ hours I played this adventure. The game lets you get a feel of how it plays at first, really not giving you much story besides your current situation. Its probably not until a good 10 hours in when you start getting deep into it, where it grasps your attention. But to set this premise up without spoilers, Adol is on a ship that gets attacked by a giant sea monster, he washes ashore a cursed island and has to find the other castaways that may have survived. While all this is happening he starts having strange dreams of a girl named Dana in the process, about her life and what not somewhere else.
    When you start this game, you quickly establish a base camp with the few survivors you meet pretty fast. From there you start exploring the island little by little. You gather resources, pick up different characters that can join your party or join the home base. Characters that join your party can be swapped in and out as you please, except during important boss fights. Even though Adol is the main character, you don't have to use him. Your party size if fixed at 3 but the story never gets disrupted becasue cut scenes include the entire group as if they are always there fighting with you. Characters can have one of 3 damage types (precision/slash/bash), and its best to have one of each at all times. Certain enemies are susceptible to certain damage types.... this will allow you to break there stun bar and make them incredibly weak to all damage types. While you control one character at a time, the other two will still attack via pretty good AI. Even though the controls consist of only a single basic attack button, the combat is surprisingly varied. Not only can you swap between the 3 characters fluidly in combat, each character has special attacks that use up an SP bar. SP is gained through kills and regular attacks landing. Holding down the assigned button and pressing one of the 4 face buttons allows you to use these attacks. Each attack has a certain SP cost, and as you use them they upgrade. You can learn new attacks just by fighting a lot... they seem to randomly pop up. The SP meter can be upgraded to become larger, and you can equip gear that will reduce the cost of your attacks on the SP meter. You also have an ultimate attack that does a lot of damage. Its mostly good for annoying enemy types and powerful mobs, but Its always good to use it on a boss. It stops time so you never have to worry about missing due to enemy movement. You also can dodge and block.. while a little clunky, you can proc a flash guard and flash move by using these right when you're about to take a hit. This will slow down time and allow you to lay in a ton of hits on whatever you're attacking.
    Survivors that don't join your party join the base camp and generally offer a crafting service or material exchange. Gear can be crafted and your weapons can be upgraded this way by having the right amount of materials. These mats drop from enemies and resource nodes. I never found myself having to grind out any of these mats as they pretty much came naturally as I played through areas. There is also eventually a doctor that can craft medicines and heal potions for you... but until then you can use fruits that you find around the map. Eventually these become useless to consume straight because your HP gets larger and larger as you level up. While you have meds to heal HP and cure conditions, you can also discover recipes and cook food with said fruits that heal and offer a bonus effect such as HP regen, faster SP regen, faster break bars, or immunity to all conditions... these are all timed, and you can't use another food until the time runs out. The healing effect counts for your whole active party, while potions and what not only work for one character. All the survivors together add up to remove obstacles that block certain areas of the map. These are purposely blocked off until you find the required amount of survivors because they generally have a higher level area behind them, or a chest with special gear that's purposely timegated. These adventuring gear pieces are character wide and give you abilities to climb vines, double jump, breath underwater, etc. At the start you can only equip on at a time, but as you progress you can gain more equip slots... I managed to get it up to 5 pieces at a time. A lot of these gear pieces allow you to visit parts of the map that weren't blocked off, but you couldn't reach anyway due to some environmental design that these gear pieces were designed to overcome.
    Along with your main story, there will often be side quests to accomplish that will reward you with valuable gear, mats, extra gear slots etc. These tasks are generally easy, and require back tracking to a previous location you've already been too. There are also mini events that randomly pop called "beast raids". Its a small plot device used to gain more mats. While these are optional for the most part, they are worth doing. Its basically just a horde mode. You can upgrade your base with weapons and blockades gradually to make these easier and to gain more points. Most of these hordes consists of the latest enemy types you've encountered and maybe include a recycled boss.
    So back to Adol's dreams about a girl named Dana.. at first its only story about her, but you eventually get to play as her in his visions, living at another location. Apparently this was added in the NA version of the game. I find it hard to believe this wasn't in the original because a lot of background and story is given here. Its not a lot of game play compared to the main map and the world is very limited in these sequences, but there is a whole dungeon to do. Dana is her own party member, and because of this, she's super OP. Eventually she gets two other fighting stances to make up for the lack of party members... so the swap characters button swaps her stances instead. Eventually Dana ends up in your main party in a much weaker form of course... why she is there is a mystery... when this happens you are given the option to swap between your visions of her and your real world to try and solve that mystery any time you want, while before that, the game would proc it at key moments. So you got some old Zelda mechanics going here with a sprinkle of Dark Cloud 2.
    What I liked:

    The story was well done, well paced, and satisfying if you obtain the full ending. The ending was almost an hour long with some breaks of gameplay sprinkled in. The best part about all of this is you can toggle auto scroll on and off with dialogue. While having it off can really break the flow of conversations when its voice acting and not text dialogue, if you're trying to drink some coffee or have a text, it really saves you from missing out on anything.
    Crafting was never a chore. Nodes are marked clearly on your map, and respawn pretty fast, but I never found myself having to back track, farm or the need to look up where to obtain a certain mat. Its a super casual system.
    The DLC mentioned in the trailer was free... at least for the switch version... and the DLC was just alternate outfits and accessories like sunglasses.
    Combat was fluid for the most part... this game feels very dated at times, so some of the attacks that require some precision can get wonk and frustrating to land at times. but juggling special attacks and regular attacks to maintain enough SP to do maximum DPS was satisfying.
    Custom button mapping! Thank god, because the default layout was a catastrophe. This also let me set up a dedicated button to use a condition remove med with a button press. This made combat better since I didn't have to pause the game with the inventory screen to pop the medicine manually.
    The music is charming and nostalgic. Each zone type has its own style of music reminiscent of the PS2 days full of synth and repeating electric guitar rifts.
    While this game has a heavy mix of voice dialogue and Zelda style text dialogue, the voice acting is quite good. Adol is a silent protagonist, which only says a few words here and there, but all of the other characters really come to life with their voice actors, and even the gestures they make. For such dated graphics, the emotions still come through really well.
    The side quest system wasn't too tedious, the rewards were worth the effort, and you got some back story on whomever requested the task.
    What I didn't like:
    The side quest system.... wait what? Yeah the actual quests weren't the problem... its the system. They're posted on a bulletin board and then you have to go talk to the NPC at base about it. The thing is, that if you wait too long and do too much main story, these will go away eventually... that duration isn't really clear. I had one that popped and immediately disappeared because i didn't feel like doing it until after a big boss fight. The glaring issue with this, which i found out after i beat the game, is that missing too many of these will deny you the true ending, and will give you a really shit ending. Thankfully I only missed two of these quests, and one I'm pretty sure it was a bug that just wouldn't let me proc it. WTF? There was no indication that not doing these would deny you an ending. When you finish quests not only do you get rewards, but sometimes stat increases... while I think the rewards may be worth it, someone else may not and miss out in the end. They should have done a better job communicating how big of an impact this has.
    While the combat is fine, the tab targeting is god awful. I never used it besides to see what the possible drops for an enemy was before I decided to risk attacking something that was 10 levels higher than me. Half the time initiating the targeting would not target the closest thing too you, and swapping is the same button as moving the camera, wtf? The sticks are the only buttons that can't be mapped, so I don't think there was a way to change this.
    The camera can get just as wonky as the targeting system some times... its about as dated as the graphics for this game. Sometimes the enemy will go offscreen and disappear altogether until you turn the camera around... this goes for large ass bosses that devastate your HP bar with certain attacks. When you can't see the wind up, its not good.
    Unnecessary invisible walls. This contributed to the camera problems at times, but when I can't jump a rail or a growing mound on a makeshift farm.. I mean c'mon... I get the old graphics, but not this.
    While I complimented the voice acting... I had to add this nitpick in... there are a lot of recycled lines for some sequences of sleeping after setting up camp, and viewing vistas. This game has some GW2 style vistas, where when you see them, generally one of the party members will spout off one of their lines like "Its quite a view" or "Its so beautiful". For the most part they are... but one time I was in a cave and saw an old raggity pirate sail, and one of the female party members said "Its so beautiful". C'mon now.
    Final Verdict
    This game is well worth $60... but like I said in my original status, I bet this will be free eventually on PS+ Monthly games. Its one of those games that proves that  old graphics and really old techniques when it comes to music and what not, don't really matter as long as the actual game is fun and the story is great. I'll definitely buy a Ys IX if that ever becomes a thing. I'm honestly sad that it is over. I'm about to pass out now staying up this late to write a review. Hopefully it makes sense overall because I'm too tired to fix any mistakes or to catch them to begin with.

    I like how they nerfed the Martini Henry to register arm and hand shots to decrease kill shots, and now they're taking all that away. lol

    I never played HL, but I had a coworker that complained about it all the time. Everything he told me about it sounded stupid and frustrating. It was a neat concept, but poorly executed. People have been wanting Bad Company 3 for years but we get this other shit. BC actually had awesome campaigns, if it's ever dirt cheap on steam, I highly recommend them just for that. Its wild they cant make a full length campaign now. They'd probably screw up BC3 for all I know. It was more casual and had no prone, but at least you could change your attachments and weapons for each class in the match. There was one attachment for the scout class called the Spotter scope, it would auto spot everyone that you caught in the sight. Super OP XD. One extreme to another.

    This will be the first one I skip most likely. I'll come back when its Bad Company 3 or they get their shit together with the upgrade system. They're trying to streamline the engine for reuse like COD so they can pump out off year and main year titles with minimal work.... but they took the off year's stuff to do it with. Plus they'll probably do the "shortcut package" for all of these again, so people can buy tokens to unlock a full tree and have every variation of every class and gun instantly. It's truly an EA company now. I have a feeling if I buy it, and get burnt out quick, and with the push back to November, I feel like I'd just drop the game completely when Anthem comes out 3 months later. My current work schedule isn't gaming friendly, and I'll probably have to wait 2 more promotions until it is. I'm lucky if I get to play with anyone twice a week for a few hours.
    You're right about the attack on GO. Its a complete farce, and people are going to be mashing that switch sides button hard since its so bad. What made Operations so fun in BF1 was the absolute clusterfuck it was at the end. The complete chaos on Monte Grappa where the attackers pour out of the blimp while the defenders fight for their lives to stop the capture of the fort was hilariously fun... and even though it always favored one side pending on if the behemoth was shot down or not, it was still fun and when you pulled it off, it felt great. Imagine if you had to sit there and bleed out instead? I never did play any conquest. I guess I'm just irritated they took my favorite game mode and screwed it up so hard. Maybe games like Overwatch disenchanted me from more realistic shooters. I dunno. I totally didn't feel anything positive when playing the beta.

    Its probably better on the defense, but the bleed out system is infuriating. If you start out bad, it just cascades and you can't get in any type of rhythm because you're constantly laying on the ground watching other people shoot at each other. You also can't quick swap classes while watching another squad mate to spawn on. You have to back out to the map to pick another class. The STG is still super OP which is another reason everyone is playing assault. Even the base one I had melted people, but when other people have less recoil and more effective range, thats when I couldn't compete at any decent range. Reloading is a death sentence, its slow even for SMGs. Pistols are the most powerful they've ever been in BF. I was quite surprised how fast I could down people with one.
    The only plus I can say about this game is that the grenade spam is non existent. Nades seem to be incredibly weak too. But getting blasted by a tank non stop on Day 2 wasn't fun at all. One of the tanks has a semi auto grenade launcher for the secondary gunner. I hopped in one and spammed 5-6 explosives on a objective and cleared it all. Seems a bit OP, but it does have a big cool down between rounds once it has to reload.

    I mean what did they expect? Releasing BF5 right between COD and Red Dead was a stupid fucking mistake, it's no wonder their pre-order numbers were lower than expected. EA ran into the same shit with Titanfall 2 when it released so you'd of thought they'd learn from their lesson. Honestly I'm happy they're pushing it back a month. This will give them time to get features into the game that weren't going to be their at launch in October and maybe give them time to actually start marketing this thing a lot better. I'm honestly on board for all the changes they've implemented (even the ammo shortage, I think it's a nice change and will make you rely more on teamwork then ever before (which is what they're going for in BF5) though I could give two shits less about cosmetics in an FPS (yea lets give you these retarded camo's that will make you stick out, that's what war is about).
    Am I going to buy it? Yes but I won't pre-order it because I've been burned one to many times by EA and the industry at large. I'll probably get it closer on Black Friday since I'll have a 4 day weekend to play it and honestly pre-order bonuses aren't worth anything to me anymore (outside of FFXIV related shit, I'm a sucker for the pre-order shit they have (I need my minions and mounts damnit >.<)). There are only two games I'll pre-order that are coming up, Cyberpunk 2077 (that gameplay demo has me fucking sold on the premise now) and Ace Combat 7 (though, if it's announced in Nov, I will be pre-ordering the next FFXIV expansion next year as soon as it goes live).

    While this is certainly amazing and everyone is like "PC MASTER RACE" I find it funny how pretty much no one will use this in a lot of competitive games because of the advantages of lower graphic settings gives at times. Like in PUBG everyone runs lower settings to find people hiding in grass that is only visible with higher settings.

    I'm for the spotting changes because I'm a stealth player and I hate how every game has tried their hardest to take away complete map invisibility. I can only imagine how many of my BF deaths came from someone spamming the spot button non stop and picking me up trying to flank around the back of enemy lines.

    Another free weekend is coming up. The state of the game has altered a little since the last. Soldier, McCree, Bastion, and Mei had their damage fall off ranges buffed, making the Phara and Mercy combo non existent (thank god). Phara is a lot weaker now, and so is Mercy as her healing was nerfed back to what it was when the game first came out. This means a lot of the lower DPS characters can't be out healed by a pocket mercy. Ana's ult has been buffed, I've been playing a lot more of her when people are willing to Rein up for me. I've enjoyed it immensely. Her and Brigitte are the best support counters to Doomfist and Wreckingball to stop their mobility. Lucio's aura has been buffed to be bigger and his Ult now can cancel out every Ult except D.Va's on 200HP characters. Brigitte has been nerfed since the last go, her shield bash CD is now 7 seconds from the 5 it was. I personally thought the 6 second buff was enough. She's not as powerful as she originally was, but is still effective on the right maps. Moira is still an absolute monster and my favorite character to play. Her healing mist got buffed to regen 20% faster, so you can throw out more death orbs instead of solely relying on your healing orbs to keep the team up. It doesn't seem like much, but I'd say I went from throwing 30/70% death/heal orbs to 60/40%. With McCree back in the meta, it does hurt her ult as he can easily cancel it out with a stun flank. Brigitte was the main counter but you could easily keep your distance from her stun.  D.Va is still the best tank by far, and its not even close. Her rocket barrage that was added before the last free weekend has given her the DPS boost she needs to defend herself against high DPS targets, and harass other tanks. With the mobility nerfs to Widow and Hanzo they've seen a downard thrust in play, but I have no doubt no one will experience that next weekend as all the n00b try hards will instantly go for them and get fucking deleted by anyone decent with Zen, Ana, D.Va, Soldier, and even Lucio. Solider and McCree can also harass snipers off their perches with ease now as well. Junkrat is very meta in mid and lower tiers, as a lot of people try max shield bunker on choke point maps like King's Row and Volskaya. He also does work on Brigitte as her smaller shield can't handle his bombs, your trap can snare her shield bash, and his concussion mind can easily be thrown over her defenses.

    I want to be excited for this game, but honestly It completely dropped out of my mind the last few months. The lack of ammo is going to change after launch, and they should just change it now TBH. But they wont. They'll wait until people stop playing like they always do to fix stuff. They don't even have to give everyone a max stack, just maybe 20% more. I get why they want it to be like it is, but its too extreme. Only 3 mags with a SMG? Thats 3-4 kills before you're out. Scout can stay the same becasue 15 rounds is no less than 10 kills for a good player. I'm curious if you can resupply yourself because that's what is going to happen.. everyone is going to be playing support and no one will play medic or assault. Tanks will run wild because of it. They fix the sniper problem and create a whole new one. I just read preorders are really weak right now. At least I won't be paying $100 for a game that will have a low player count 6 months after launch. It doesn't help they were assholes about the first trailer. Causing PR nightmares before you game launches isn't the best approach.

    This is the first time I bought one of these at launch. I was a bit disgruntled after only being able to play Ep 1 as I'm use to all the eps being available.
    The first ep was good. A lot of character building. Having AJ with me and watching def made me think more about my choices in dialog. I tried to be more fair and reasonable. This first ep was more about relationship development with the new cast. There was a lot of choices to be made, but I don't think any would have been super impactful for the overall arc. The end was pretty brutal though. And AJ is a little shit, I kinda wish he died in the last season . #TeamKenny

    I bet it'll be a 3 hour movie and the first 2 hours will be character buildup of the new boxer character and his struggles with raising a child while trying to work a job and have a boxing career. Slowly they'll bring in some other human mortal kombat characters and in the final hour explain some elaborate tournament and introduce 18 more characters a ninja army and a bunch of aliens in a train wreck of a final hour.. but the best scene will be in the last fight when the boxer has a flash back to him telling his kid something while he throws that perfect finishing punch that saves all of earth.
    There... now I can skip this movie.
