  1. By good dubs you mean voice actors doing justice to the character and the language as well ? How'd we ever know if the translations in the subtitles are acurate *hides before being pelted with tomatoes ...*

when comparing the english voice actors to the original japanese voice actors.. for me its got more to do with the emotion in the voice and the way the voice presents the character.

Fruits Basket and Cowboy Bebop are both great examples of the voices truely matching up with the characters, their facial expressions, feelings, etc.

while other dubs don't always hit the mark..

the goofy idiotic english voice of Gai Sensei in Naruto pisses me off. While Gai is elaborate and talks "cool" in japanese, in english he sounds like a moron.

Inuyasha is good in english, but the japanese inuyasha actually growled frequently when he was pissed off.. maybe because hes a dog demon.. little things like that get cut all the time too.

and kuwabara's english voice.. wtf. X'D

I can understand cutting words or phrases or translating dattebayo to "Believe It!" for editing reasons and lip syncing.. but damn. sometimes they really screw up. -_-

I just pray that Bleach will be a good dub. If Itchigo sounds like Naruto, I'll be pissed.

  2. In that episode in which Rosyln is dying from cancer.. I had a feeling of deja vu. Well, I realized what the connection was. Independence Day! Mary McDonnell played Roslyn on BSG and the president's wife on Independence Day. And in both, she was lying on a bed dying. If I had the dvds, I'd get screenshots. Does anyone else remember these scenes?

  3. Hacking up n stuff, hey, I remember studying it in college and you could even cross-breed (I'm sure it's called something else ... *thinks*) em, but only if my caretaker could not touch them and make them survive :P ... I've really wanted to try cross-breeding and creating hybrids ^_^ ... you've tried it Lady, Sledge ?

We've never cross breeded anything, I'd love trying it tho. Oh, our bearded iris's cross pollinated tho. One year they were all yellow and then the next they were all half purple/half yellow. crazyness. O_O

  4. I use western digital and I haven't had a problem yet. The usb 2.0 connection is pretty damn fast too. You can watch the anime right off the harddrive and you won't get any playback issues. The same can be said for DVD R/W drives too. Pick one of those up and you can burn an unlimited amount of anime on 4.7 GB disks. And playback on a dvd r/w drive is just as efficient as an external harddrive.

  5. That sounds like a good plan. ^_^ I still haven't read the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Speaking of trilogy tho, has anyone read any of the Star Wars novels? I know aqu has read some. ^_^ I started reading a Star Wars trilogy recently (Thrawn Trilogy).

I finished Heir to the Empire a while ago, but I'm missing the second book. :\ I'll have to pick it up from amazon soon so I can finish up. These Star Wars books are pretty damn good. The Courtship of Princess Leia is my favorite so far, a great story.

  6. I liked Rose Madder and I haven't read Gerald's Game yet... so, no. :\

Don't get me wrong tho, I did like Rose Madder, but compared to some of his other books the story line seemed a bit odd in the last 1/5 of the book. When they were both in the picutre world (probably mid world?) and they kinda did a minotaur chase thing.. it kinda lost me there. :|

and don't bother reading Gerald's Game. Theres a small connection to Dolores Clairborne in there, but thats all the book has going for it. bleh.

The middle three are definitely the best. Another good one by her is "Merrick." It's like the Mayfair Witches meets the Vampire Chronicles. Very good. I don't read much Rice anymore. I got a hold of "Mists of Avalon" and didn't look back.

Yeah, lady mentioned something about the witches books being good too. I'll have to check those out.

  7. Anyone read Anne Rice? Another book that I finished a while ago was Interview with a Vampire. That book just dragged on and on for me. And half of Memnoch the Devil should have been completely discarded. But lady has told me good things about The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned and Tale of the Body Theif.. So I'll have to finish up the series sometime this year.

I finished Cell a while ago... It wasn't very good :/

Thats a shame. :\ Is it better than Rose Madder or Gerald's Game tho? I wasn't impressed with either of those.

  8. I just finished Michael Crichton's book Congo, which was pretty good. I'm reading Sphere now and by the way its reading, I have a feeling it'll be a better book. But I'm really looking forward to reading Eaters of the Dead next (aka The 13th Warrior) its amazing how most of that book is based off a true story. *dies of anticipation*

So what are you reading, have read recently, or are about to read? ^_^:
