  1. My dad has stage 4 liver cancer. Its not operable. Hes going to have to start chemo soon. He had colon cancer last year but they were able to remove it. I'm hoping the chemo takes care of it.

Just when you can't think this year could get any worse. Here's to hoping he can kick it in the ass

  2. Had another busy weekend that spilled over into the beginning of the week. I replaced my dryer belt and cleaned out 15 years of built up lint out of it. Its amazing how much lint gets past that lint trap and just builds up. No wonder dryers are fire hazards. Lint burns so damn easy and with as much lint builds up in a dryer its like gasoline ready to ignite into a massive fire with the smallest spark inside it. wtf.

  3. Theres a new update for IPB coming out later this year. Once I upgrade to that, I'll see what new features there are for the articles section and possibly get articles back up and running again. In hindsight, I didn't like the comment implementation. Because it used the forum topic's comments, in the article it would look out of place because the comments wouldn't start from where the post was upgraded to an article. If there is a better implementation of that I'll probably get the articles back up and running. Heres info on random stuff in the new version that may or may not interest anyone. lol.

    https://invisioncommunity.com/news/product-updates/

And there will be an Invision App that works will all sites that use IPB, but its dependent on the community owner keeping the license valid for it to work. Which I generally don't. For the last 5 or so years I let the license lapse when there is no upgrades available. I never saw the value in paying for license renewals every 6 months when there was no upgrades because all it did was give an anti spam option. We hardly have a spam issue anymore nowadays. Eh, we'll see what the app does and if it has a dark mode or not.

  4. Had a busy weekend. A cousin from out of state visited, another day we put a second coat of paint on our garage and the third day was all yard work. It was a nice having a 3 day weekend. I have another one coming up this weekend, but I have to replace the dip tube in my water heater, hopefully that doesn't take me all day. My water heater is in an awkward location in its own utility closet and I'll have to disconnect 3 water lines to pull it out far enough to get the tube down the top because theres a shelf over the water heater and it has no clearance. I'm sure it'll be a pain in my ass. x_x

fortunately it turned to the right as soon as laura made a landfall. not a drop of rain and no wind. greetings for that day was like "hey, we dodged a bullet" or "hey, we are so lucky" lmao. have to see next week though, 2 new tropical storms heading this way from atlantic -_-

lol damn..8 hours sounds like a nightmare. i hope you dont have to go thru that everytime you clean it. O_o the waterheater that got replaced had no problem for 20 years. or at least i dont remember it needing any maintenance. but the new one is electric, maybe little more than a year old, and it already had an overheating issue a couple months back. a technician said it was an error due to power outage but idk. i hope it lasts as long as the old one bc just by calling someone to check on it is like $120.

    3. Sledgstone

It was only 8 hours because I had to drive to Lowes 3 times, lol. That was probably 2ish hours just in driving and going through the store. But it did take a long time. Mostly because I had to clean all the connections thoroughly because the original owners screwed up the connections and caused a corrosion issue. At one point I had to wait about an hour for the tank to finish draining. x_x When I go to do a yearly maintenance on it, as long as I set the water heater to drain in the morning, I could get the job done in an hour because the elements are facing the front of the heater so I don't need to disconnect anything again. So about an hour once a year not counting the time to drain it isn't too bad.

That gas water heater probably lasted that long because you must have decent water there. The gas burner is under the tank while an electric one has two heating elements that are inside the tank. Both the gas and electric ones get mineral deposit buildup all over the inside heat sources, that eventually builds up, flakes off and settles to the bottom of the tank, or for electric will build up so much it completely damages the elements until they break. Because I have well water and its heavy with minerals, that build up really builds up very very fast compared to public water that is already treated from a water company. The maintenance I'll have to do is drain the tank, take out the two elements and replace them, only $27 for a set, and vacuum out that mineral buildup at the bottom of the tank. I might get a water softener at some point and then I'd only have to do the maintenance for the water heater maybe once every 10 years. Your gas tank probably had 20 years of mineral buildup that eventually filled up so high it was causing heating issues. and btw, that mineral build up is heavy as hell. I bet those guys struggled their assess off removing that thing. lol.

      Plumbers are expensive. x_x

Oh and I forgot to say, that dip tube I installed in the water heater turned my 8 minute warm showers into 30+ minute hot steam showers. Night and day difference. It's like it's brand new. Not bad for a $30 part off amazon. :D

This is what the calcium buildup looks like that's in every water heater. Google water heater calcium buildup for some nasty looking pictures. Lol. I'm lucky tho, the inside and outside of my tank looks practically new still. But some really old tanks look so unhealthy and unsafe. Lol.

this was years ago but i never upgraded mine even when it was offering free windows 10. ive heard lots of complaints about windows 10 even before that. my main reason was it said windows 10 wasnt compatible with old steam games

      Sledgstone

Hmm. Windows 10 is pretty damn good now. I thought it was crap initially but it got alot better and more stable with updates.. but then I thought it was crap again because I kept having hard crashes, but it turns out that was bad memory in my PC. I have alot of old games on steam but I haven't come across one that doesn't work yet. Most games also have a steam forum with good info about getting games to run if its getting errors.

I think windows 10 is still free to upgrade. Windows 7 got end of life this year in january. If you're not using windows 10 yet, you won't get security updates anymore. The last win 7 update was back in February.

  6. Damn ground bee stung the hell out of my arm yesterday while I was weed whacking. If I could have gotten to their hive with the whacker I'd have shredded it into a million pieces and then ran for my life. XD But the hive was in a concrete block. I sprayed it last night. I'll hit it with some expanding foam spray tonight to seal off the rest of them so they'll be buried alive.

      Take that ground bees!

      20200805_191631.thumb.jpg.ab4d9acd3e578b07a958078d3792fec0.jpg

I used the giant expanding foam. There's like 20 of those bees flying around it since I sprayed it 2 nights ago. I'm surprised that many were outside the hive at 10pm at night. Hopefully that hive will die off soon and the leftover bees will fly off.

  7. First it was a heat wave and now we got deluged with rain. Lol. We got so much rain the pool started overflowing at the white frame areas.

    20200717_080543.thumb.jpg.e3beed56a0fb71fc47d8591524193f9b.jpg

The pool at max capacity is 4500 gallons and we only get 4000 delivered every year. The pool was getting a little low last week. Since last Saturday the pool got enough rain to fill it up over 500 gallons and overflow. So much water. 😮

  8. Turns out I had some sitemap issues, SEO issues and some issues with the https changeover that google absolutely did not like. It looks like google wasn't crawling the site or at least not crawling and indexing the site like it should have been for who knows how long. I think thats all fixed now and I think google is indexing correctly again. Will this increase our users online? I have no idea, lol. But at least the site should be a bit more visible with google now.. at least until google gives me another email about errors again. -_-;

As of now from over the last 5 months our best search term that gives us results is:

    "one punch man english dub"

The lowest search terms that somehow loads one of our pages:

    "utz cheddar cheese balls"

    XD

Google is actually sending us some traffic again. As of this morning we've had 20 clicks since last monday night from the search term "zoro kill count". Somehow an old topic from 2006 is the number 1 result for that search as of right now. Lol.

  9. Damn heat wave needs to stop. :sweat2: We usually only get around 8 days of 90s+ every year. Mostly we get high 70s and high 80s during the summer. So far we've already hit 9 days of 90s+ and we have even more coming. It wouldn't be so bad if we could get some rain though. Everything is so dry I'm only mowing twice a month now and I think I'll mow this weekend.. but its mostly to cut all the clover thats growing because most of the grass is all turning brown. I bought mulch today for our garden because I'm burned out on watering it every morning. We'll mulch all those veggies and I should only have to water every other day then.

The heat wave finally broke here. Last Saturday we got 4 inches of rain. Lol. My pool is almost full to the brim. XD

@Strider Hiryu screw -30 and -60 wind chill. That's brutal. We get a shit ton of snow in CNY but at least we don't have temps that frigid. Although a couple years ago we had a bitter cold February with only a couple days over single digits.

    3. Strider Hiryu

      Strider Hiryu

I get both ends (meaning snow and cold) of it which is why ND sucks so god damn much. During winter I don't even know what single digits feels like anymore (even when we're in the singles we still have at least a -20 wind chill). Luckily the western half isn't as bad snowfall wise as the eastern half so the last few years have been nice on that front (definitely don't miss spending 4 hours shoveling just so I can get my car out for work). Sadly they're talking this winter is probably going to be a bad one so yay for that I guess.

    4. Sledgstone

Well with how 2020 is going I'm betting all of the north half of the USA will have a brutal winter with insane snowfall with bitter cold temperatures. x_x

  10. Got my pool setup last night. All thats left to do is hook up the filter and order a water delivery. :D This same time last year we were digging out that pool spot for all of June. I'll always remember that back breaking digging. This year we put a light layer of sand down since the level is good and we wont have to worry about the pool shifting at all. I'd like to get a permanent pool at some point. It looks like buying a new ground tarp and water delivery every year will be roughly $200 a year for expenses. And these intex pools are only meant to last roughly 2-4 years, but the pool was roughly $280 on sale I think. Even then its still cheaper than a $2-$5k pool. I might stick with using these cheap pools for years.

    1. DeathscytheX

      DeathscytheX

I'm assuming you need water delivery because the well would be overburdened to supply the pool? Living on city water my entire life, all I've ever seen people do throw the hose connected to the house over the side and and let it rip. Took a long time granted, and no telling what their water bill was for that month, but it was convenient. XD I guess the ground tarp can't handle a single NY winter? I know people here can use their tarps until the sun bleaches it from dark blue to baby blue so long as a major tropical system doesn't rip it. People anchor those down pretty good.

You also have to consider the cleaning of a legit ground pool. Gotta climb down in there and scrub it out, who knows what can crawl up under that tarp all those months. I guess it depends one which cons and pros you prefer. Either way its more work that ever want to deal with. One thing I have is an extremely solid long term memory. I can remember things all the way back to when I was 3 years old. I remember when I was 5 til I was about 7, I went to a day care that had a pool. I swam in it a few times, but one year I guess they decided it was too much of a hassle and they just filled it in with concrete. That seemed to be the popular thing to do back in the 80s and 90s. I dunno how it is now when you don't want a pool anymore. I guess buying a ton of concrete is cheaper than demolishing the pool, having the debris removed, and the ton of dirt to fill it in.

    2. Sledgstone

      Sledgstone

Yeah it'll be too much of a burden on the well that and I have hard water. It seemed more cost efficient to order water that is already chlorinated and balanced than slow fill with well water and buy alot of chemicals. Last year the pool test strips I used once a week were all good. The only thing I had to do was keep using chlorine pucks. My friend that lives near me has well water he filled his kids 2x10 foot pool. 2 tests this week and his alkalinity and ph is all super high. He'll have to call a local pool store for the chemicals since we can't find an alkalinity reducer. Looks like he'll have to add a small amount of a specific acid to the water and then a ph up afterwards.

We took the pool down before winter and stored it in the garage.. the ground tarp didn't even make it to winter. I think the weight of the water stressed the tarp because the legs of the pool settled an inch deep with every leg. Once the pool was down that tarp was brittle and wrecked. Lol.

I'm getting my water delivery on monday. :D

This is what the pool looks like so far. It looks filthy because I read it was best to baby powder it when folding it up for storage so it doesn't stick to itself when putting it back up because it's vinyl. Seemed to work because it unfolded just fine.

And harbor freight ftw. 19x19 foot tarp for $19 with tax after coupon.

I kept the old tarp. I threw it in the garage thinking I'd reuse it, but man it was beyond destroyed. XD I need to throw it in the garbage. What's really stupid is amazon sells "pool ground covers" for $89. All it is is a plain blue tarp. Lol. Screw amazon BS listings.

  11. It was snowing just 2 weeks ago and now it's practically a heat wave with multiple days in the 80s. I got my window air conditioners in, but the outdoor support for my big one broke when I was testing it. The window I need this AC unit in is extra wide and can't support the weight of the unit so last year I used an umbrella stand with a metal fence post with a welded pipe on the top. It worked great, but the umbrella stand just not have been good for the weight and it snapped during my test.

So I spent today making a new support brace out of wood. I used a 4x4 and some scrap 1x6s I had from deck work I did last weekend. It's working good, I just need to fill dirt under the bottom of the base boards and then place some of my huge ass rocks all over the base for extra stability. It's all pressure treated wood so it should last for years.

Probably hard to tell from the pics but that's like 40-50 pounds of wood.

  12. Its finally warmed up around here. It snowed earlier this week and we've had over night freezing multiple days. And then abruptly it was almost 80 yesterday. XD now it's back down to the 60s, but at least it looks like winter is finally over. Now I can get some more yard work done without freezing my ass off. Lol.

  13. I'm stepping up my manscaping. lol. I bought a "MANGROOMER Ultimate Pro Back Shaver" off amazon. I've only used it once and I already highly recommend it. My back is like a wookie. XD And this thing shredded through all that hair and didn't pull a single one. No pain and no red marks or irritation on my back. Link for reference:

    https://www.amazon.com/MANGROOMER-Ultimate-Shaver-Absorber-Extreme/dp/B00FULYKG4

Its got a rechargeable battery. I was really impressed with it. I'd post before and after pics of my back, but I don't want to traumatize people with my back hair bathroom mirror pics. XD

    1. slippers

lol thats gross 😛 but yea its always satisfying when a product you buy works as it should. i bought a grooming kit, dont even remember what brand, at walgreen once bc it was rechargeable (not batteries), and i thought it was cool bc it came with all these extra stuff like detachable blades, small brushes/combs, and nose hair trimmer etc so why not. nope, what a piece of garbage. it took 6 HOURS to recharge and it ran out fast after little use maybe 10 mins top. and it was mediocre at best, pulling hair out was norm, changing blades was pain, and i tossed it out after a several use. after that i just got a conair hair clipper at walmart (and made sure it came with a f*cking cord lol) and its been over a decade now and it still goes strong. it gets hot when i turn it on for too long but i dont even bother to clean it anyway bc its recommended to oil it after every use or something but works fine after all these years. so yeah to me simple is always better. i just dont believe it when a product promises extra goods, they are there for a reason maybe bc its a crap lol

    2. Sledgstone

      Sledgstone

I hear ya about a corded shaver. I don't trust many cordless ones anymore because they all are underpowered and pull hairs. My primary electric face shaver is a whal peanut. It plugs right into the wall and never pulled a hair before. I was shocked by this mangroomer tho, I expected it to pull but it had a power burst button on it that made all the difference. It probably eats the hell out of the battery life, but I got through an entire back shaving with that power boost running constant and it still seemed to have plenty of power left over. lol.

  14. I finally finished iZombie after starting and dropping it a couple times over the years. Its all on Netflix and it was an enjoyable show. It came out during the height of the zombie craze thanks to TWD, but its nothing like a traditional zombie show whatsoever. Its basically a lighthearted police show reminiscent of Psych or Castle, but instead of a psychic or book author helping the police detective solve crimes, its the police morticians, mostly Liv, who ends up becoming a zombie in the first episode. But as long as she eats brains, she stays a mostly normal functioning human. As she eats brains she sees memories of the deceased and she basically poses as a psychic for the first season or so.. and then it gets very good as the zombie virus starts spreading as the series progresses.

Its an enjoyable show and only 5 seasons long so its an easy watch. The writing and acting is good and although alot of episodes are standalone, it does have an ongoing plot line for each season leading up to major developments thoroughout the entire series.

    1. Sledgstone

      Sledgstone

I used to watch all kinds of crap back in the day, RIP off shows, generic b-movies, etc. Now I'm much more selective.. except when it comes to zombies. XD Z-Nation was a great show. XD iZombie was enjoyable.. but the most surprising zombie movie I almost didn't take a chance on but I'm glad I watched it was Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies. I'm not linking the trailer on youtube because it's the worse trailer edit ever made. But the movie was hilarious and on par with any Sharknado movie in terms of comedy. XD

    2. DeathscytheX

      DeathscytheX

Z-Nation was the other one. XD. I really didn't care for Sharknado. It tried too hard to be bad so in the end if wasn't funny bad, or good to me, just mediocre which is the worst thing you can do in my eyes. They went from showing bad movies to trying to make ones and it just didn't do it for me. Mega Piranha will always be the best one they showed. I think that's the one where they had a car chase, and one of the characters was shifting an automatic transmission like it was a manual, and both cars kept changing makes and models in the same scene because I guess it was whatever car they could afford to rent that day of filming. XD Like the SUV was black and the car was white the whole time but they kept changing between a ford and a Chevy. They put stickers over the model/make decals to try to compensate. But this part will always be legendary:

    3. Sledgstone

      Sledgstone

      That movie was great. XD

Mega Python vs Gateroid will always be a favorite of mine just because if this bad fight scene.

The acting was so bad it was amazing. XD

Sharknado 3 was the best one. The rest of those movies were garbage compared to fighting sharks in space. XD

  15. I made a deal with a roofing company.. my roof repair is going to set me back a solid $1500.00 There goes my stimulus check plus some. I think I could have gotten a cheaper deal with a different company, but this guy does legit quality work. I figure you get what you pay for in most circumstances and this repair job will require replacing a small chunk of the roof, plywood and shingles at least 6x4, and blending new shingles in with existing ones and it'll come with a full warranty and guaranteed not to leak.

    1. slippers

      slippers

yeah it sucks. last year it was a water heater. this year it was a dryer. its always something to fix or replace. i got my stimulus last week but i barely break even, and not counting car maintenance/repairs etc. heres hoping for 2nd stimulus but texas is reopening this friday so i dont know. maybe lol. do u still live in that old place next to cemetery? i remember hurricane ike back in 2008, it did a pretty good damage on the roof and it took them a week to fix it. good thing it was covered bc it was close to 5 grand

    2. Sledgstone

      Sledgstone

I hear ya, its like every week for me is paycheck to paycheck because something keeps coming up. My water heater freaking out in the middle of winter was a pain. I didn't have the money to replace it so I fixed it myself, I have a new dip tube ordered from amazon for it too then it should finally give me hot water longer than 8 minutes. x_x 5 grand to repair the roof.. damn. x_x Roofs are costly. x_x The roof guy gave me a quote for just over $10k for a new metal roof and an extra $6k for the garage. x_x One of these days I'll do that but finance it with a payment plan. We're leaning towards metal over shingles because it looks really nice and it'll be good for 50 years.

Nope, don't live there any more. We bought a house in October of 2018. :D We're about a 15 minute drive away from the old house we were renting. Its a single floor house with detached garage and we have 1.24 acres of privacy. :D I do miss the cemetery tho. But now I have woods surrounding the entire backyard so its nice.

Another stimulus would be amazing and helpful, but I don't think we'll get it. I think the state's will start forcing openings to get the economy going again because if they don't soon, the damage might be too big for alot of businesses to survive.

  16. I borrowed a friend's air fryer last week. I let it sit for a week and then cleaned it good, just in case of conoravirus. I was pleasantly surprised with how it cooked shake and bake chicken tenders. They had a nice crispyness. I reheated some pork chops in it yesterday and it turned out good. But the home cut potato fries didn't turn out crispy, but super fluffy inside. I think I used too much oil. I'm still experimenting with this air fryer but so far I'm liking it. I think I might have to buy one.

I use to love ranch dressing... and I still do, but only fresh made like from restaurants. I guess I eat out so much I got spoiled and I find Hidden Valley, Kraft, and even Ken's to be just nasty. I can taste all the preservatives. Next time I do baked potatoes I'll just buy that $8 canister of Hidden Valley ranch dust and see how that works. XD I love ranch flavoring, just not the bottled stuff.

    3. Sledgstone

      Sledgstone

lmao! XD Be careful not to spoil yourself too much, you might eventually have so many fresh tortilla chips that Doritos start tasting stale right out of the bag. XD You could ruin snack foods for yourself. XD

I actually want to buy that ranch dust too. That looks really good to me.

    4. DeathscytheX

XD I don't think Doritos has guar gum. The local chicken tender place here makes the best ranch ever. I've eaten it so much its probably the main culprit. I've said it before but my liking for soda has been ruined too. I'd never buy coke from the store, but I'll enjoy a fountain coke any day of the week. its night and day.

Oh and Hostess sucks now that it's owned by a Mexican company. Due to regulations it now has to be frozen before it comes to the US and into the stores. So everything doesn't taste fresh. Twinkies are garbage now, even the chocolate covered one... so in a way some snacks have been ruined. XD Oreos are still good though, I guess freezing them doesn't matter if they have to be frozen.

  17. Went grocery shopping today so we can skip this weekend. It was crazy. Like black Friday busy but for groceries. At walmart, the aisle with toilet paper was blocked off with an employee at both ends allowing only 2 customers at a time in it because yesterday there was a fight over toilet paper. Wtf. The smaller grocery store in the same shopping plaza was busy as hell to but didn't have aisles blocked off. Flipping crazy.

LMAO Your local tire store is clearly nasty AF then. I hope you don't need new tires anytime soon. XD

Eating out is something I do a lot of. Mostly casual dining. All of them have posted or emailed me about how they've swapped from individual plasticware to packaged plasticware behind the counter. No more bottles of hot sauce, or salt and pepper. All of it has to be requested. Which I feel will show them how often these things aren't used in their resturant and they'll probably keep it that way to save money on salt and pepper. Everyone is doing curbside takeout now.

I actually do need new summer tires which is why I noticed they never emailed me. XD

They closed all the bars and restaurants here in the entire state of NY today except for pick up or delivery food. I'm guessing I'll get emails from every place I've ever eaten at before now telling me about their "clean disinfected environment and convenient curb side pick up"

I honestly can't take these notifications seriously because they are all the same statement with the names and a few things here and there changed for the type of eatery it is.

  18. I ordered new RAM for my PC. 16 GB = two 8 GB chips. Its not a major name brand, but I bought it off amazon. Timetec brand RAM. Seems to have good reviews and it was $57. My PC uses DDR3 RAM and some of that seems pretty costly to me. Amazon seems to have everything counterfeit lately, so when I ordered, I chose, ship from Timetec directly instead of "fulfilled by amazon" I figure I'll get an unopened, unreturned, non counterfeit product that way. Good news is my PC has not crashed a single time for a solid 2 weeks so it was definitely my RAM. I re-installed a bunch of games and I'm enjoying my PC again.

That was like 6 months of bullshit with driver updates, windows update issues, crashes, hard ware tests, etc. I will never trust a memory test again. All results of the tests were completely fine. Those 2 sticks were definitely bad since I pulled them and never had a crash since. Running on only 6 GB right now compared to the 12 I was using, does seem to affect loading times. My PC is a little slower for booting and games take just a bit longer to boot up, but I haven't tried any games lately that require a decent amount of RAM, only Starcraft Remastered and GW2.

Got my new RAM last night. Going from 6 to 16 GB, the only difference I've noticed is games load a bit faster, streaming games to my laptop or nvidia shield is much smoother, no lag or graphical issues anymore. I used to get occasional pixelation that didn't last long, I used to associate that issue with my wifi, turns out that was a RAM thing to. That also used to happen when I had 12 GB ram. The only other difference I noticed is I don't get a huge lag spike spinning my camera around in GW2 anymore even in a populated area. Interesting.. it doesn't improve my FPS, but it does prevent the FPS dropping to 12 while initially spinning my camera around lions arch or divinitys reach.

  19. I'm still getting PC crashes. I think its still my RAM, so I pulled another chip out and I'm testing it today. I've been having about 1-2 crashes a day lately and some days none, but the last 2 days its crashed 6-7 times each day. wtf. I'm down to 6gb of ram now assuming the 4 gb chip I pulled out was the bad one. I'd like to buy a new computer at this point, but if it is just the RAM causing these issues I'd be fine with dropping $50 or so on new memory. I just want my PC to be stable. x_x

      Sledgstone

Holy crap, I did have 2 bad sticks of RAM. After I pulled that one out last thursday my PC hasn't crashed once. And I found out my games crashing was because of a virtual memory setting I manually changed to give the system stability months ago was no longer valid, or auto changed to a lower amount. I switched that back to windows auto managed and even my games aren't crashing anymore. :D *knocks on wood* I'll still replace this remaining memory soon just to be on the safe side in case all the RAM is going bad.

  20. Got my taxes done yesterday. I hate doing taxes. x_x H&R Block software works good for me tho.

I've used TurboTax for years. I did mine the day i got my w2, and got my return last week. XD

      Sledgstone

      This year was odd for me because I had to wait for 2 w2s and some bank forms for the mortgage. Now I know what to wait for next year so I can get them done asap next time. My taxes are already getting spent. New summer tires for the car and propane to finish heating for the winter. Ehh.  -_-;

  21. We're going to lose the gif feature. :( I've been holding off on the latest IPB update because I was waiting on the theme guy to release his update (that happened last night), so I'll update this weekend.. but one thing in the patch notes from IPB:

"Removed support for Gfycat embeds due to ongoing unaddressed security concerns on their end." The gifs were fun while they lasted. :(

sad the empire strikes back GIF by Star Wars

  22. I finished reading The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. I actually finished the book a month or two ago, and then started reading all the extra appendices at the end.. and that was alot of material. It was interesting to read about what happened after the movies ended and the eventual end of Aragorn's life all those years upon years later. And all the extra info about the origins of middle earth and the different ages. I didn't finish the entire appendix, I got burned out on it since most of it doesn't read like a full story. Once I got to a section where it was showing large time lines of events, mostly from the original trilogy I stopped. It was a good chunk of info.

On a side note, the actual ending of LotR was in the shire with the hobbits raising a small hobbit army to defaut Saruman. lol. Who'd have ever seen that coming? XD That wasn't in the movie. XD

      Sledgstone

I was glad to see that Gimli went with Legolas all the way to the end with the other elves. Their friendship was great. 😀 i'l have to buy the Silmarillion at some point so I can read it. The appendices were great with more info about the rings that was never covered in the books so I'm glad all that extra info was included.

I just remembered this comic from dorkly.

      XD

I'll warn you it's a slog and a half when you do get around to reading it and pretty much every story is unfinished but it's probably one of the best reads out there for Middle-Earth knowledge. It covers the first two ages and goes into great detail about the Undying Lands (where the elves, Gandalf, and the other wizards are from), why the elves came to Middle Earth, Sauron and his master, the creation of the rings of power, the origins of Aragorn's family line and why he so long lived, and many many more things. Just talking about it is making me want to read it again.

    3. Sledgstone

      Sledgstone

Now that sounds interesting to me. The appendices talked briefly about Sauron's master. And it got me wondering about that guy and wtf powers did he have. I'll definitely pick it up one of these days. It still boggles my mind that Aragorn's ancestors used to be elves but decided to become mortal. Ancestors made a bad choice and all those generations later they get wars because of it because of the resentment of not being immortal. Yeah, screw those ancestors. I'd rather have immortality. XD

  23. Looks like all embed functions are currently messed up and will give 403 errors. Youtube video links, reddit links, etc. will all mess up. I made a support ticket. I should hear something back in 24-48 hours.

  24. Ok.. I just realized that if you type a colon and start typing the letters of a smilie, the post will auto pop up a list of smilies you are typing.. ":astonished:"  😲

It doesn't work for smilies that start with a letter like "XD"

On a side note, XD was ripped from Trillian back when we all used instant messaging. Now trillian is a business messaging tool you have to pay for with different tiers of features. I was looking at it not too long ago just out of nostalgic interest.

  25. Looks like hundreds of users are browsing AC in waves.. the ip#s are all almost the same, coming out of Singapore. It started like 3 days ago. Either somebody posted something very popular in Singapore, or theres some weird Singapore search engine that just wont be content until it searches through every single page on the site.

Search engine bots running through the site:
