  1. I was such a BBQ newbie when I started back in 2008.. To anyone that is reading this blog article.. do not cook ribs like this. No.. Just don't. Slow cook them on a grill with indirect heat with a dry rub. Boiled ribs taste like boiled over cooked pork. Dry rub slow cooked ribs taste like BBQ.

  2. What these people need to do is not speculate about whether the person knew it was a crime or not. Instead they should focus on the fact that regardless of someone being ignorant of their crime, it is still a crime and it requires punishment.

I think back to an episode of Simpsons where Homer is in a hurry and drives through an intersection while covering his eyes:

He knows its illegal but pleads ignorance. If it was real life he'd be thrown in jail and face legal charges.

Theres another quote I remember him saying when he was talking to Marge about doing something.. when she doesn't reply to him either because she was angry or asleep, his response was:

    "As always, silence means yes."

No Homer.. no it does not. It might funny in the cartoon in the context it was given in, but in terms of reality, its a very bad example.

  3. Good point. As a joke / meme, I could see how young males would think its funny. In my past I probably would have too and it embarrasses me to acknowledge that. I think its because of the overly sexualized image of women in movies and on tv. It seems that many actresses get their jobs based on their cleavage size or how they can display their bodies. Its pretty bad that we've all gotten used to it and expect it. Its as if a woman isn't a woman unless they have their breasts on display for everyone. Breast cancer is horrible. To hell with saving the boobies. If a women needs to lob them off to save her life, then I hope she gets the support she needs.

As for men, I find it disgusting that I have to see half naked men everywhere. On just about every talk show, a well exercised man is expected to lift his shirt and show off his abs and pecs to show off how sculpted they are for their next movie. Men can get breast cancer too, but you don't see any memes saying "Save the Pecs". Because if a man needs breast tissue removed, people would probably think, "Oh shit, it must be serious." But if its a woman they say "Save the titties." Very disturbing if you ask me.

On a side note, if I got testicular cancer, I'd have that nut lobbed off. Screw "Save the testies." If I need one gone, I wouldn't hesitate to figuratively flick if off as if it was a large marble.

  4. Curiosity was / is awesome! That was a great achievement for NASA and it was treated like the red bull space jump guy. One day of publicity, some memes and then basically ignored. I don't think kids want to be astronauts or astronomers anymore. Most of them have crap educations and only have military service or mcdonalds employment to look forward to. Maybe if we had better coverage of the more advanced sciences on tv instead of ancient alien theories, we'd have a better chance at encouraging the next generation into advancing their education. I'm really looking forward to the new Cosmos series on Fox. I hope it'll be good and maybe accomplish this. Along with new Through the Wormhole episodes, I'd love to see more science shows. There are still people that don't think we even landed on the moon and I'm sure there are people that deny that Curiosity is even on Mars. Speaking of which, I love this video of Buzz Aldrin punching a conspiracy theorist:

    XD

There are far too many politicians with no science knowledge and facts. When I used to watch Celebrity Apprentice there was a season with Rod Blagojevich in it.. the former governor of Illinois thats currently in jail, who is 56 years old. Before his court date and sentencing, he was a free guy and was on the apprentice show. Anyway, as I was watching this I couldn't believe my eyes. He didn't know how to use a computer. He literally did not know how to even turn it on or how to type. wtf. He was the governor of a state and did not know how to turn on a computer. It boggles my mind that people like this get into power. There are congressmen / congresswomen that don't understand how the internet works, how gun magazines are reusable, conspiracy theorists, and there are more than quite a few that use brilliant scientists like the flat earth society:

    http://www.alaska.net/~clund/e_djublonskopf/Flatearthsociety.htm

    Why a Flat Earth?

Why we don't believe the world is round

Scientific data and measurements backing up our claims

    http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/

    wtf.

With the way congress is now, all the large one or two issue problems could become the next focal point of complete gridlock. Its petty, but if one side can push the issue the primary candidate supports, then they'll smear campaign the hell out of it until the general voting population hates them.

  5. I honestly think McCain should have been president instead of Bush, he would have been a better war time president but he got screwed in the primaries at that time. Hilary should have been president over Obama, but a black male president was apparently more electable than a woman.

Ron Paul got some coverage on MSNBC, especially during that republic convention that officially announced Romney as the candidate. If I remember correctly, Guam and the state of Maine were very vocal in their protests. I flip through the different channels sometimes to see whats being covered so I can look up more info on different subjects that seem off or only covered by one group. I think the only reason MSNBC was covering Ron Paul at the time was to emphasize the discourse in the republican party. That and these news outlets like to emphasize more coverage on a candidate they feel would not win in a national election to try and get people to split the votes or get the candidate they want into a primary win so they'll be less likely to win against their parties candidate later. People would have voted for Ron Paul if he put his name in to the state elections for write in eligibility. MSNBC knows this, so they cover Paul in the hopes that if he did that, then more republican votes would be split between the two of them and Obama would have had an easy victory. Paul didn't put his name in for write for exactly this reason. Its all mind games and its another reason I don't care for these biased media channels. It worked the same for Fox News, sometime Hilary was given more coverage, other times she was blasted for her opinions. MSNBC didn't seem to like her at all and put all their backing behind Obama.

Rand Paul has some good positions that I agree with but others I don't. But the main reason I don't think he'll win a presidential election is because of his stance on abortion and fetus rights. Just that one thing could make him unelectable. And for the democrats, there is Governor Cuomo of NY. Hes done a much better job over the previous governors for this state, but the moment he forced through his anti-gun agenda he lost all potential for presidential election. Same with Rand Paul, just one issue and they're basically both screwed out of getting past their respective primary elections because their own parties wont see them as being electable nationwide.

I honestly think Chris Christie would have been a better nominee than Romney. I used to vote republican, I mostly vote democrat now, but I will vote for whoever deserves my vote. If I see a name on a ballot and i don't know who they are, I have the right to leave that part unvoted and thats what I do. I won't vote party line anymore, I need to be convinced. The biggest problem with America is the lack of voters. Its a right that many people do not take advantage of unless it is a presidential election and its a shame. Every politician in power now could be voted out if the other 50%+ of US citizens actually voted.

I've seen people bash the tea party for their positions in congress. I've had a tea party representative in congress for my district before. Ann Marie Buerkle. I don't think she did a good job at all, she seemed highly uninformed on a variety of subjects. I know she does not represent the tea party as a whole, but she did not please people in this state and lost her re-election. What was really interesting in that election was that a green party candidate was in the debate, Ursula Rozum. She had some good positions, like the elimination of all existing student debt and that higher education should a be a constitutional right for all citizens.. but none of it made financial sense. Other than a few extreme positions, she could have run on a democrat line, but didn't. It makes me wonder why the Tea Party doesn't run on its own party line.

The Obamacare website is a disaster and it reflects on the entire bill. NPR has a decent article about the UK government's digital infrastructure:

    http://www.npr.org/blogs/alltechconsidered/2013/10/23/240268497/u-k-official-urges-u-s-government-to-adopt-a-digital-core

The highlight of this article was at the bottom:

Finally, the president said Monday that the policy of health care reform . How would you characterize the relationship between what government services purport to do and how much they're dependent on the technological systems?

It is the prevalent distribution model of our time. I don't think you would hear politicians say, "Well, the government buildings, they're not the government," because you have to go to government buildings to transact with them. So websites, digital channels, mobile services, applications, APIs, they are the government. And that's a critical thing. Digital services are public services. The Web services are indivisible from public services

In essence, the website is Obamacare. Because the website is faulty, the entire health care bill is faulty. Without it working correctly, the entire health care reform will not work correctly.

They should have outsourced this to amazon. Amazon's cloud servers and tech powers Netflix and Reddit to name a few. They would have done a much better job and given everyone free overnight shipping of their documents. :P

On one last note.. all politicians should be required to take science classes. I agree with that.. not just tests, but entire classes so they can be informed. They should also all be required to go to a Department of Social Services and go through the process of filing for welfare and food stamps. Its an all day event, possibly spanning numerous days depending on where you live. They should experience it to know what its like and what the benefits and requirements actually involve. Instead of everyone complaining about welfare queens, they should jump into the system to get first hand experience so they'll know what should be fixed. Same with gun policies. Everyone of them should be required to get a gun permit, take a safety course and buy a firearm so they know what they are talking about. Even if politicians are pro or against any issue, they should actually have knowledge about them before they sign bills that affect them.

Oh.. and birth control should be free. If people don't want welfare queens, then free birth control should be available to prevent unwanted pregnancies and children that are unaffordable outside of massive earned income tax credits and increased welfare benefits.

  6. I've noticed that this blog entry keeps getting random views so I felt like I should update it. This blog post was made back in October of 2009.. and in November of 2009 we decided to stick with vbulletin as described here:

    http://www.ancientclan.com/topic/9851-were-going-with-vbulletin/

In hindsight it was the worst mistake I have ever made for this website. vBulletin was a failed product and their quick "give me your money and take no time to think about it" really screwed me and all these years later I have a great resentment for vBulletin and their product.

    June 2010

After vBulletin finally released version 4.0.4.. Four releases after their gold release I thought we would finally have a stable product.. but no..

    July 2011

An entire year later and vBulletin 4 was still not a viable option for our conversion from vBulletin 3:

    Another year later...

So... vBulletin finally released vb 4.2 a few months ago and it was finally a fully stable version with many bugs fixed.. so I was going to finally upgrade AC to the newest version after what, 3 years? But just as I'm about to do the work on a few themes and get the ball moving, I see where they announced "vBulletin 5 Connect" and they want people to pre-order it now even tho its in beta and it will eventually be a useable stable product. It took them 3 years to make vb4 a fully stable product, which they will now stop improving because all development will go towards the new version 5. Check out the new demo of vb5:

    December 2012

I finally decided to ditch vBulletin.. 3 years later they finally make a product that can actually import the blog attachments so a full conversion from vB 3.8 can finally be upgraded fully without errors and they announce that vBulletin 5 will be out soon which means they'll stop supporting vB4 in the near future.. I owned the software for 3 years and I was never able to use it on a live site because it would not meet the criteria I wanted. I should have been using IPB for over 3 years now.

This is a major announcement about our community.. We are finally ditching vBulletin! We will be switching to Invision Power Board software. We should retain all posts, post counts, albums, private messages, etc. Expect major changes with the overall site. We will be turning ancientclan.com into an actual website again. But it will not be anime based. We have had a good run as an anime site, but its time for us to move away from that specific genre and move towards a more general entertainment website focusing more on movies, television series, video games, anime, things that interest us, etc.

    December 2012

In December of last year we made the switch and everything has been great since.

Welcome to Ancient Clan! We are almost finished with the foundation of our new site. We are now running invision power software. Our forums converted fine, but we ran into some issues with the blogs and user albums. There are a couple IPB staff members that are looking into this issue for us still. Unfortunately, we will have to keep those two sections offline until we get this issue taken care of.

    http://www.ancientclan.com/topic/12451-ac-welcome-to-the-new-ancient-clan/

Long story short, don't bother using vBulletin. They used to be the best forum software out there.. but now its pointless. By the time they have vB 5 working good, vB 6 will go on sale. I'm not interested in dropping over $200 every 3 years.. I'd rather pay the initial up front cost of IPB and renew the license when I feel like upgrading it. IPB's ticket support is great.

  7. My first cell phone was way back when I was a teenager.. I had one of the first digital cell phones from a company called Aerial One Wireless. I had a Sony Ericsson and an a Nokia that weighed about 5 pounds. lol. That Ericsson was good.. for making phone calls, things like texting didn't exist yet.. at least I don't think they did. XD

    It looked like this:

    img01052.jpg

Except I didn't have that cool Coke skin.. I had these phones for about a year and then I dropped the cell phone plan because the service was horrendous. I didn't get another cell phone again until almost 10 years later. XD

I forget what my original Sprint phone was, but I ended up getting a Rumor 2 that lasted me aboiut 3 years because it was the best phone I could get without having a smart phone plan.. That Rumor 2 phone was fun for the first year or 2, then it started feeling aged.. and once I got a smartphone I realized what I've been missing out on.. and now that I know what other people have over my outdated Motorola, its annoying.

  8. I think you're right. These shells do mush up pretty fast.. but then again so do the regular shells here. I should do a test and get a regular supreme and a locos tacos supreme and let them sit for 10 minutes to compare. :P

I think they should have made the taco shells more crunchy like the Doritos Locos Tacos chips. If they'd have had that doritos crunch they would have been better and it would have compensated for the sogginess. But then again, if the shell didn't get soggy and was that crunchy, people would probably cut the hell out of their mouths on jagged pieces. XD

  9. Next time I'm there I'll pick one up and see what its like.

Do you have any Dinosaur BBQ sauces there? Its in my third pic middle shelf far left. Those are their hot sauces.. The devils duel is insanely hot. I can pour any bbq sauce into a bowl, add 2-3 drops of that hot sauce and instantly have a hot and spicy version of whatever sauce I want. I mixed some of that with Montgomery Inn bbq sauce and it turned out to be some of the best sauce I've ever used for bbq.
