Ryan Reynolds is Green Lantern

Warner Bros. Pictures has hired X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Proposal star Ryan Reynolds to play the title role in the anticipated Green Lantern, scheduled for a June 17, 2011 release.

Based on the DC Comics hero, the action-adventure will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye) and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti. Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

The Hollywood trades say that Reynolds and his camp entered negotiations for the part Friday, after the studio held two rounds of screen tests, along with actors Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. Justin Timberlake also did a screen test. The studio had holding options on the actors, but, except for Reynolds, those expired Monday. Reynolds' option would have expired end of day Friday.

Production is expected to begin in January.

The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Introduced in 1959, Hal Jordan is a second-generation test pilot, an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."

Reynolds recently starred in Fox's "Wolverine," in which he played Wade Wilson/Deadpool. The character is now being developed for a spin-off to which Reynolds is attached. He also played Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity.

The actor will next star in Buried, a dark indie drama that will begin filming shortly in Barcelona with Spanish director Rodrigo Cortes. Reynolds will play a civilian contractor who is kidnapped in Iraq and awakes in a coffin, struggling against time to coordinate a rescue even though he doesn't know where he's buried in the desert.

Justin Timberlake? are you serious? Thank god he didn't get the part.

i think Hal Jorden is older then Ryan, though Ryan isnt a teen, he has a young look to him when clean shaven (which hal is)

and i think he looks more like Karl rahner glantern5-1.jpg

though again he just doesnt seem to fit correctly to me

From what I have heard and read the movie is gonna be a Hal Jorden movie. When it first was planned, it was suppose to be a John Stewart with Common at the helm. I think that was mostly because of the success of Justice League at the time.

common would be an ideal John Stewart, but from the JL cartoon, JOhn Stewart just hacks charisma

but i think Hal Jorden is more important to do as he is considered one if the the greatest GL that has ever lived.

Well, I remember they announced a Deadpool movie, but I didn't think they confirmed him as the actor for it... That would be odd to see the same actor play two different super heros. It would be like seeing Brandon Roth as Green Lantern and Superman. x_x

Yeah, but that character he played in Blade Trinity wasn't something everyone will always remember him for. Deadpool, maybe? I dunno, I haven't seen the wolverine movie yet. But a major role like Green Lantern, or Deadpool in his own stand alone movie will be something much more memorable. I have a feeling that once hes done GL, everyone will remember him as GL just like everyone can easily associate Christian Bale with Batman.

Yes! I hope the costume actually looks right. Imagine Green Lantern in an all black leather outfit. -_-

or a the same as wolverine from origins) but with a green jacket ...

seriously why do a super hero movie if you dont wear the right costume,,,,

When it comes it big time superheroes, they generally do an outstanding job on the costumes. Especially DC. The latest movies not counting the X-men universe have done really well when it comes to that, Iron Man, Batman, Superman, Spidey. They all looked great, despite what you may have thought of the movie itself. I'm sure they'll get GL looking sharp.

i disagree with Batmans costume, it looked too ridiculousfor words

Batman doesnt need $300,000 body armor, Batman doesnt get shot, or knifed, he usually KO's the small time people before they get a good look at him, and well the Big Bad guys dont shoot Batman, lacks style.

They should have kept the costume like the comics, made it in the same stuff as Sup/Spiderman + cape and cowl

This might be offtopic but did anyone see this:

It's obviously fanmade but I jizzed my pants when I watched it.

As for Ryan Reynolds, I'll give him a chance. There is potential. We'll just have to hope the script is decent enough to make this movie as awesome as it should be.

Those who fight deplorables should see to it that they themselves do not become deplorables.
