anyone familiar with AMD as opposed to intell

is this any good, ive only ever owned pentiums. will this play the latest software, and games? thanks

im looking for a pretty decent quad core and found this:

i will pimp it to 8GB of RAM and a 9600gt 512 Graphics card

up the ante with a 570w PSU also

i will need to buy an arctic cooling fan i guess

Seriously, though, I've never had problems with AMD. You will definatlly need a very good cooling fan for it, but in my experience, an AMD CPU will perform just as well as it's equvilant Intell, for a lower price.

Intel tend to shut down before damage from heat happens. AMD isn't as good about that, and when they fail from heat, there's not as much chance of recovery by replacing the cooling system. But as long as you have a good cooling system, there should be no trouble. They only time I've had a problem is when my cooling fan failed and I didn't realize it right away.

I'm a huge AMD fanboy even though they've fallen behind Intel in terms of speed and performance. Their processors are rock solid. I've never had a problem with any of their processors. I use normal heatsinks and never had issues with them overheating either. The processor you picked out is one of their newer top of the lines so you should be happy with it.
