Health care news worth sharing

Recommended Posts

The White House, Washington

Good afternoon,

You are receiving this email because you signed up at WhiteHouse.gov. My staff and I plan to use these messages as a way to directly communicate about important issues and opportunities, and today I have some encouraging updates about health care reform.

The Vice President and I just met with leaders from the House of Representatives and received their commitment to pass a comprehensive health care reform bill by July 31.

We also have an unprecedented commitment from health care industry leaders, many of whom opposed health reform in the past. Monday, I met with some of these health care stakeholders, and they pledged to do their part to reduce the health care spending growth rate, saving more than two trillion dollars over the next ten years -- around $2,500 for each American family. Then on Tuesday, leaders from some of America's top companies came to the White House to showcase innovative ways to reduce health care costs by improving the health of their workers.

Now the House and Senate are beginning a critical debate that will determine the health of our nation's economy and its families. This process should be transparent and inclusive and its product must drive down costs, assure quality and affordable health care for everyone, and guarantee all of us a choice of doctors and plans.

Reforming health care should also involve you. Think of other people who may want to stay up to date on health care reform and other national issues and tell them to join us here:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/EmailUpdates

Health care reform can't come soon enough. We spend more on health care than any country, but families continue to struggle with skyrocketing premiums and nearly 46 million are without insurance entirely. It is a priority for the American people and a pillar of the new foundation we are seeking to build for our economy.

We'll continue to keep you posted about this and other important issues.

Thank you,

Barack Obama

P.S. If you'd like to get more in-depth information about health reform and how you can participate, be sure to visit http://www.HealthReform.gov.

*ala Mortal Kombat* It has begun!

A national health care would be great, but one of the main problems is that specialists tend to move to countries where they can get paid more. Which is why a lot of Canadians end up in the US for special surgerys. Granted, I can't see most of them leaving the US, but it will be interesting to see how this gets handled.

I dunno ... but the cost of health insurance for me alone went up from 325$ to 395$ per month, and I got off it a month ago. I thought of it as a scam, but that's just me.

I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.

a lot of us are pushing our govt for that

but

we have ppl who don't understand anything having to do w/ socialism thus they fear and hate it.

the defunct republican party wants to rename the democratic party the democrat socialist party  they have no power so all they can do is fear monger and they are.

:picknose:

i'm not either party, but I do hope for some kind of government sponsered health care, even if it's just help for emergency coverage. That's all I really need, something to help me get fixed up if some accident happens.

One thing I am worried about is how it's going to impact my job, because where I work is already struggling to make all the ends meet, which is why pay is so low. I really don't want to have to find a new job, espically right now. ><

GG: pretty much all of the health care system in the us is a scam. Prices keep rising to cover costs that the hospitials charge to hire enough nurses or other employies to meet federal regulations for things, not to mention that all doctors are required to have malpractice insurance, which keeps climbing in cost due to everyone trying to sue everyone else for the stupidist things. I'm not saying that doctors don't make good money, they make excellent money. With such a specilized field, I have no problem with that. What bothers me is that people that need insurance or medical help can't get it because insurance rates keep going up to cover rising health costs and someone's getting rich off of people's suffering. Basic health needs and emergency care should be accessable and affordable and if a doctor wants to make a lot of money, they should go into very specialized fields or become plastic surgons and move to Hollywood, where there will ALWAYS be a market for that!

Dubie, you've hit the nail on that. I agree completely with the workplace scenario, and the raising costs. Question - how does it work for Canada? They all have free health/ medical coverage, and I think it's covered by the high tax rate (around 15ish %) on close to every purchase, I'm guessing. I ask this because it's not a question of the quality of doctors across the border - their standard's pretty much the same on comparison.

seriously guys if your health costs are more then a plane ticket to canada then pack a suitcase ;p

NHS in the UK has a system with every pay slip next to tax, say's national insurance on £xx amount

like 10% of your pay

but hell a lot better then paying a bombshell to have a rash looked at

also HMO's make over a billion profit a year WTF is that about

Like Dubie said, big ol' scam and that is another reason outside of affordability that ppl don't get insurance. They love to make it as complicated as expensive and RARELY is there any such thing as full coverage. Even ppl on govt insurance (medicade/medicare) have co pays for meds and treatments and office visits etc.

Big pharma is big money here. Our health care system makes up about 1/5 of the economy.

And just my 2 cents on the outta control malpractice suits; the bulk of this movement kicked off because of elected plastic surgery. Somebody put the wrong kinda solution is some egotistical bitch's fake tit...

and we get another example of where the narcisisim of a few assholes has led we many.

:smoke2:

copays for regular doctor visits isn't a problem for me....i can see how it would be a problem for someone that needs constant supervision, but there should be a seperate coverage for that anyways....

and it's not plastic surgary that kicked off malpractice suits....that just aggrivated it....some people will do anything to avoid going to work and look for ways to sue anyone just so they can get 'free' money....and when you throw in all these lawyers that are experts in finding loopholes to allow people to file these stupid and frivolous suits, that just makes it eaiser....i'm not saying there's no bad doctors, but most just want to help people, and it's not their fault that they can't fix everything.....yet with so many people finding excuses to sue everyone around them, they have to protect themselves.....malpractice suits do have their place, but like most things in our justice system, it's been abused so much that everyone else has to pay for it....

every kind of law suit is abused. Look at the stupid bitch that got paid for spilling her McDonalds coffee in her own lap -_-;

I don't know if anybody remembers the controversy years ago about saline vs silicone implants. Silicone fake tits were found to be health hazards and there was an explosion of sue sue sue the doc that gave egotistical bitches their fake boobs. It escalated the sue frenzy and set a new standard of how sue happy ppl could be, which as it turns out is quite happy >.<

The judges awarding phenomenal pay outs to these sue happy assholes amplified the problem setting president that its worth it to go through the process to sue somebody's asshairs off cuz you'll make a million or so -_-;

To get the cost of insurance and treatment down, judges have to stop awarding fantastic amounts of money over stupid shit. If yer surgeon leaves a scalpel inside ya, yeah sue. Your botox gave you a rash, no sue. Our courts are not there to be a dog and pony show for plastic people.

Another way to bring cost down is for insurance companies to stop covering ridiculous Rx's like Viagra. There is no reason for everybody to pay more so some old fuck can get his dick up. He isn't going to die without a hard on but a lot of people do die every day because they can't afford life saving/prolonging meds for serious and terminal disease.

This country is in a transitional phase. A few dinosaures from grandma's day still haunt Washington. You would think after surviving the dust bowl they'd all be enviromentalists but they're not. They're an obstical that denies human rights and civil liberties based on their flawed idiology. Thankfully within the next 20 years all these fucks will be dead.

Then we have our parents gen in power to deal with. They grew up not giving a fuck about the enviroment, throwing garbage out the window as they drove their 8 cylinder hot rod around town. Some of them even had fits they had to share a drinking fountain with a black kid. Some did care about unjust war, civil liberties etc... they were called hippies and most of them got too burnt out in the 60's to continue a progressive push for change; most hippies didnt become politicians.

President Obama isnt in their generation, he's closer to mine us Xers. He's not all white, doesn't come from an old money family and spent his career trying to help his constituents. I'll go as far as saying I think he might give a shit in the wind about the huge number of financially struggling Americans and want to help. The change he was elected for was to bring a sense of dignity, fairness and balance back to the country. I'm looking forward to seeing him pull it off ... *sends Alotta Luck from lotto commercials to Washington*
