A lot of good questions in the profile.

When I create a complicated character, someone we're all gonna ride the bus with for a while, a great deal of those questions do get answered. I usually start with a cluster of notes and odd ass ideas and then through diolouge or the person thinking shit to themself other traits are revealed. I work em like Eddie makin a key out of a block of wood :P

With some characters, I leave some discriptive details sort of up in the air so the reader can have the final say on what the person looks like.

That is very similar to something I have used for a long time while writing stories. My husband and I have a mountain of role-playing books and some of them of good ideas of what to think about when you are making a character, so I have just worked with those for the my stories. My husband bought a book a while ago that has a random table for just about everything you have on that list. It is fun sometimes when you can only get the bare basics of a character concept and then you use these tables and the rest likes filling it self out. I have used it a couple of times and the characters that come out are really good.

i think it all depends on the story you're writing....yes, it helps to plan your character, but i don't like setting my character in stone early on.....i do things like name and physical attributes, and a minor history/personality, but i tend to write for characters that change during the story, so setting it all down so early tends to make me feel limited....

Yesterday was the deadline for all complaints!
