Nintendo to make movies of their properties

Japanese video game maker Nintendo has revealed plans to make films and videos based on its library of characters, Variety is reporting.

The information was revealed by Nintendo company president Tatsumi Kimishima in an interview with the Asahi Shimbun. Kimishima said the company will fund the proposed films with revenue from the sale of its share in the Seattle Mariners. “As soon as the sale of the team is finalized we will use part for our new visual contents business,” Kimishima said.

Options under consideration include feature films (with a preference for animation over live action), and direct-to-video productions, Kimishima said in the interview (as translated by Kotaku).

Here’s how the rest of that conversation played out:

Asahi News: “Is the picture (or image) business the movie business?”

Kimishima: “Movies are representative, but it’s also making videos and releasing them in various countries and whatnot. It’s various businesses. Now, we’re talking to various partners. In the not too distant future, I’d like to get some sort of form ironed out.”

Asahi News: “In the past, there was that Super Mario movie.”

Kimishima: “The box office receipts on that weren’t so good. But this time, rather than licensing, our current thinking is that we’d like to do as much as we can ourselves.”

Asahi News: “As for your partner, is that a Hollywood movie company?”

Kimishima: “Something like that. It doesn’t necessarily need to be Hollywood and once it’s been decided where it will be, then at that time, we can talk about it. However, I want to do this thing together with a partner who is able to take things globally.” (Note: This isn’t a confirmation , but Nintendo does have a partnership to bring its characters to Universal Studios Japan.)

Asahi News: “So, will you do another live-action movie?”

Kimishima: “We’ve done that before, so probably not a live-action one.” (Note: Recently, there have been rumors of a live-action Pokémon movie.)

Asahi News: “Will it be something like Disney or Pixar, then?”

Kimishima: “Because we have IPs, we’re thinking we could also do something like that. It is something to keep in mind as we make all this concrete.”

If Nintendo had Pixar make their movies while maintaining control of the property so another "Super Mario Bros." live action fiasco never happens again, they could make some really awesome movies. But if Nintendo teams up with some companies in Japan that did the live action death note or attack on titan movies, this could lead to some huge flops.

Based on how well live-action adaptations of anime and games have been in the past I don't think Nintendo will go down the live-action route with their properties ever again (Mario Brothers anyone, I actually liked the movie but I was a kid when I first saw it so yea).

It should be noted that Nintendo gave up majority control of the Seattle Mariners to do this (something I didn't know until I watched the Inside Gaming episode on this yesterday, funny to think Nintendo owned an American Baseball Team). Goes to show you Nintendo is financially hurting so I think this is there way of trying to come out of the red and recoup some losses after the Wii-U debacle.

Nintendo really need to focus on live action plausible characters like Samus Aron. And make new characters that could fit into a live action PG-13 setting. But I doubt that will happen as long Mario is Nintendo's Main Mascot.

Those who fight deplorables should see to it that they themselves do not become deplorables.

Every once in a while I'll come across free games for PC that look really good. Anyone can feel free to update this topic with limited time free game links so we can add them to our ever growing backlog of games. If a game states how long it will be free for, please list that along with the link. Sometimes it won't be stated so if you click a link and its no longer free, then that promo must have expired. I've seen alot of free game listings off slickdeals or other blogs. I'll update this when I see good ones. I would post the free games with Amazon Prime, but I don't currently have amazon prime so if those appeal to anyone, feel free to post them since Amazon Prime generally gives away a couple free games a month.
      To start off with:
Little Nightmares is currently free with a Steam promotion until 05/30/2021 @ 10:00am (does not say if EDT, PDT, etc. )

Company of Heroes 2, Company of Heroes 2 Ardennes Assault - Limited Free Promotional Package, free for this weekend or until 05/31/2021? It doesn't say exact day it ends.

I've gotten annoyed with managing my digital movie and tv series collection. It didn't bother me before because Netflix had pretty much everything. I'd never have to search for stuff on my hard drives or old dvd-rs because it would all be on Netflix. Now that Netflix has dropped about 50% of their content over the last couple years and will lose significantly more once all of Disney's properties are removed next year I've realized all my old dvds, blu rays and digital movies are all getting more use again. This is were plex comes in.
I setup plex on my main pc, moved a bunch of movies and tv series into some folders and set plex to use those folders. This program auto grabbed all meta data for the content, images, etc and is basically a Netflix clone. I was shocked by how efficient this is. I installed the plex client app on my ps3, ps4 and roku stick and as long as my pc with the plex server is running I can now stream all my content to every tv in the house. It even keeps track of where i left off in a movie and i can resume it on a different device if I want.
So I bought a 4tb hard drive yesterday and I'm going all in on this. I'm going to rip a bunch of my dvds and blu rays (the ones that don't have a digital copy) into mkv files and throw them on that hard drive for my plex. I'll try putting my old anime avi files (with hard coded subs from back in the old download days) in there to to see if plex can play those too.  Plex will even organise by genre to so it all works good. And plex is free.
I was thinking about buying a nvidia shield because it can be used as a plex media server instead of just a client like the PlayStation/roku apps but it looks like it has some limitations with file types and my old anime files would definitely not play on it unless i converted every file thru some program called handbrake. I'll look into that some more.
I figured I'd share this in case anyone else was getting annoyed with Netflix and every company making their own Netflix clones. Instead of paying every company a piece of the pie it'll be cheaper in the long run to just make my own Netflix with the content i already own that is already tailored to my preferances. And plex can stream outside of your home in 720p if you go on a road trip. I doubt I'll ever use that feature tho, especially with upload rates being shit with spectrum.
Go to https://www.plex.tv to get the media server and the PlayStation/xbox store/roku/android to download the plex app. I know this topic seems like am advertisement but they're paying me nothing and it's all free downloads anyway. it just works and works great.

The new PlayStation 4 firmware update will include external HHD support for game installation. Finally. I honestly didn't realize the original PS4s even had USB 3. They are also finally adding custom wallpapers via screenshots. About damn time. The wallpapers in the online store are complete garbage. I'd still prefer to use my own .jpg files like on the PS3, but modders used that feature as a way to hack the system which is why we never got the functionality in PS4. Using a screenshot is completely fine with me.

Nvidia is launching an online game streaming service called GeForce NOW.
I'm going to quote myself here from another topic:
With Playstation having it's own streaming service and now Nvidia making it's own service, having to own physical consoles and PCs specifically for gaming might come to an end within our lifetimes.
The downside to the Nvidia service is the cost. I've been seeing the numbers "$25 per 20 hours of gaming" floating around alot. If so, thats a hell of an expense for now.

Am I the only one suffering from steam sale fatigue? Maybe its just me but ever since they changed the store to the design it is now nothing in the store appeals to me anymore. Its probably because of the massive influx of every game from every independent developer. Theres so many games on there that I never look at what new games came out anymore because in any given week 40+ new games were released and 250+ games are listed in their weekly sales. I stopped looking and only pay attention to humble bundle sales now. Even with the steam sale going on now I don't see any huge sale thats leaping out at me to take my money anymore. Sure I still have a backlog of games but there seems to be less and less new AAA or indie games that I'm interested in for PC. Unless its a game I want for console I hardly look at the steam store anymore even though I use steam on a daily basis.
