Respawn Entertainment is making a new Star Wars game

At EA right now, we have multiple studios building a variety of great Star Wars games spanning different genres. We are all united by our teams’ passion for Star Wars™ stories, characters, and adventures.

Today, I’m thrilled to be able to announce that EA and the talented team at Respawn Entertainment have expanded our relationship to include the development of an all-new 3rd person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. They join our other great studios – Visceral Games, DICE, Capital Games, BioWare, Motive and more – who are currently working on Star Wars projects. If you’re interested in joining us on this adventure, you can visit our Careers page – we have openings at Visceral and Motive and will be sharing more on these experiences soon.

Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Vince Zampella and his group. Their obsession with making games that feel amazing has helped make Titanfall one of the most successful new game launches of this generation. And now, with a new team led by Stig Asmussen, we get to see what they can do when you combine that great attention to gameplay with the power of Star Wars.

There’s never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan. The passion we’re seeing for Star Wars from gamers – whether they’ve been along for the ride since Star Wars™: Episode IV: A New Hope™, or were introduced to the magic of Star Wars with Star Wars™: The Force Awakens™ – is fueling our development teams and our partners to create unique interactive extensions of this deep, meaningful universe. As a game maker, nothing is more exciting.

All I want is a solid Star Wars campaign based game. I hope respawn can do it justice.

I'm a little worried since this team is only know for FPS games. Makes me think this will end up becoming another Battlefront style game down the line (which, after DICE's fuck ups, is something no SW fan wants unless it's done right). However, this could be our hopes of getting the scrapped SW 1313 game or at least a game of a similar premise (a man can hope, 1313 was looking to be the best SW game to come out in years had it actually gotten off the ground (I was extremely hyped for it)).

I think they can do it. If anything they can make one hell of a campaign story. Respawn's style is very linear and scripted though. It revolves around good story telling, visually intense and/or high suspense situations.

here is an example of what to expect. It will be interesting to see what kind of 3rd person engine they come up with.

If respawn actually make a story driven game it could be good. But if its a repeat of Titanfall with no actual story and its nothing more than another FPS multiplayer I know I sure as hell wont buy it.

If Naughty Dog (Last of Us / Uncharted) or Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider) was hired to make a Star Wars game it would be epic. Both of those companies can do 3rd person adventure with amazing quality.. But instead they hire Respawn, whose last game didn't even have a campaign. This will be yet another game I already know I won't pre-order.

I guess the 1313 topic was so many AC formats ago, it got pruned. XD

Anyways... everytime I think I'm over this game and have forgotten about it, some asshole website has to rub salt in the wound.

A remake could be good if it's done right. But those games were so huge it'd be a bigger task than remaking Final Fantasy 7. Meanwhile I still haven't played the second KOTOR game.

Sounds like a good title to me. The movie is going to pick up right where the last movie ended.

Holy crap. Thrawn is officially part of the new Star Wars canon. And there will be a new Thrawn novel. I'm so happy. This obviously means the Chiss are canon now as well. I need this book. Hell, I might even have to watch Star Wars Rebels now.

Maybe he'll be a good Han Solo. I still have the old Han Solo Trilogy of books in my head so it'll be a hard watch for me since all that canon will be thrown out the window.

Here is the highly anticipated trailer for Star Wars Episode VII!
Ah, the return of practical effects! It's nice it's mixed in with CGI. The whistle of the X-Wing thrusters is a welcome return. I heard an imperial drone before the first scene cut off as well. Say what you want about JJ Abrams. With Lawrence Kasdan (Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark) back on board, I have high hopes this is going to be amazing!
