Anyone watching Heroes of Cosplay? Aside from Yaya Han, everyone looks like normal people that enjoy doing cosplay. Its interesting to see their costumes and their design concepts and ideas. The woman's Brave cosplay was really good. She looked pretty much just like Merida.

Its on Syfy, Tuesdays at 10 pm right after Face Off.

I caught the premier when it aired. It's interesting and since it's on after Face Off I'll most likely continue watching it (it's only 6 episodes long). Don't really know if this will be a good thing for the cosplay community though (lot of negative feedback flying around on the net about it, a lot of people don't like that SyFy is airing this).

Hmmm.. I just looked up some reviews for it. Quite a few people really do not like this. I can understand some concerns now that they were pointed out to me. I honestly didn't know there was cash money prizes for cosplaying. I honestly thought everyone wants to cosplay because they enjoy it, and their costumes are works of art that they are displaying. But this show does only emphasize the competition / money aspect which I'm assuming is a small portion of overall cosplayers out there.

The one thing I did notice was there wasn't enough of an emphasis on the creation of the costumes. There was a bit of unnecessary drama. Considering the show follows Face Off, I assumed they would focus more on the costumes. But this show seems to take an opposite direction. In Face Off, we see them working on their costumes and when the time is up, the cameras do not follow them home or to whatever location they are all staying at. I like that.. Its not survivor, I don't care about their personal lives, I'm only interested in what they are there for.. But Heroes of Cosplay seem to barely show the meat of what I want to watch and instead shows a bunch of unnecessary scenes like bar hopping. I hope the remaining episodes focus more on the costumes. I'll keep watching it considering theres only a handful of episodes left.

The problem is they filmed this like a reality show so the drama (outside of the show) is pretty non-existent by what I gather from reading Twitter feeds (I follow Yaya on Twitter and haven't really seen any of the drama you saw in the show in her convo's with the cast members on the show). This also cuts out the time to see them craft their costumes (real reason I follow Yaya on Twitter is she posts periodic updates of current costumes she's working on at various stages (she's making a Moulin Rouge style Snow White costume right now for Dragoncon)) which is one of the main reasons I started watching the show.

By what I gather from reading tweets from the show's cast and other various cosplayers very few con's hand out cash prizes or even have cosplay competitions so it's a very small aspect (in fact I never heard of it before the show (when I went to ACEN in 2005 there was no competition that I could find, just a cosplayer's ball (that was pretty neat))). Sadly the show, by what I gather, is going to focus solely on this aspect (which sucks). Ohwell, I'll still watch it since most of my other shows are still on break so I have nothing better to watch.

Thanks for that info. With a name like "Heroes of Cosplay" I thought the series was going to focus on the best coplayers on the planet and we'd see an interesting mixture of cultures with people from multiple cultures and their expert costume skills. Instead its focused instead on a handful of people that enter costume competitions. I can see why people can be annoyed by that. If anything, the series should have had a different name. But at the same time, its a bit ground breaking too considering its the first english / american show that is dedicated to cosplay, regardless of what aspect of cosplay the show is focused on. I'll keep watching these episodes just to see Yaya's newest costumes. Her designs are really impressive.

I've stopped watching a lot of my favorite gun building reality shows because they shift the focus from the builds to stupid workshop drama and fake issues that supposedly would make them miss deadline. Their newsfeeds and comment sections are filled with anger and such. When you're catering to certain crowds, they watch the show for the subject material, not some BS drama. That audience watches shit like survivor. I'm surprised they filled it will drama on the first season... normally they reel everyone in and then the following seasons they insert that garbage.

In the final season of History's Top Shot they removed all the house drama and made it solely about competitive shooting. The fanbase loved it, the ratings grew by a double digit percentage, and then History cancelled it after that... it seems TV execs don't have a clue that people like informative, intelligent material about their hobbies. Not storylines about personal drama. Hell there is even a website you can go to to look up people that have been on some of these shows telling you how fake it is. American Guns was cancelled because the tv execs felt like they didn't have any more stories to tell... umm wtf? No one watched it for the stories, they watched it for the gunsmithing.

Yea Yaya has been talking about it non-stop on Twitter (as have Holly, Jessica, and Jesse). Can't wait to watch it when it airs. By the looks of the trailer we can expect one more guy at least but we're losing two cosplayers from last season (I know Monica isn't in this season due to school and I don't think they brought back Riki (Riddle) for this season). Yes, I follow all of them on Twitter (don't judge me).

Heh, I stopped watching Top Shot because of the house drama. I missed the last season due to the freaking drama driving me away from it in the season before. Now I really wish I would of watched it. Sadly this is the problem with reality tv, they're trying to turn it into reality soaps and not give the viewers what they want. I stopped watching Survivor after the first season due to this (loved the first season but every season since has been a sad attempt to draw more people in with more drama).

Yeah you really need to find a download of the final season. It was amazing. No house drama. In fact, nothing in the house was filmed outside of the nailing the target on the eliminated. Gabby was the first female to win an elimination challenge. It was a really good season. On Facebook the fan base praised it for having the best sportsmanship of any season. The trick shot challenge features some great marksmanship between a few of the guys that could have taken the easy win but made difficult shots instead to advance. It sucks that Season 1 and the last season were the best... all the final challenges were epic, but the first and the last season overall were the most pleasant to where you didn't despise a shooter.

I never got around to watching Top Shot, but I did watch American Guns and Sons of Guns.. American Guns was interesting in the way they built custom firearms, I'd have kept watching it if the show didn't air in some conflicting time slot for me. But Sons of Guns is down right stupid now. I watched a couple seasons of it in marathons and the gunsmithing was great.. but any episode I see now is so damn boring.. They're always working on some project where they mount guns to something instead of actually making a custom weapon or explaining anything at all about the actual gunsmithing they are doing. Every episode is some stupid drama about Vincent, some financial issue or other issues that aren't mentioned in the show for legal issues and make no sense, like why the owner made an employee the CEO. I'm really surprised Red Jacket is still in business at this point.

I never watched the early seasons of Survivor, but I have caught some of the more recent ones because that wednesday time slot is pretty empty so I throw that show on in the background while I do other things. Survivor is completely stagnant. No matter what they do with this show now it will never get more interesting or attract new audiences outside of their initial fan base. Also.. there was one season where Boston Rob completely dominated the game, only one person did not vote for him in the end. Aside from that one vote, it was the perfect season. Survivor lost almost all my interest after that.

Pawn Stars is full of fake tv show moments now. Like Chum Lee going to some accountant and acting like an idiot because he only has $50 to invest and he wants to buy a car.. but if you google search him you'll see some TMZ articles and pictures of him in a casino playing $5,000 per hand black jack and paying over $100,000.00 for a party for his girlfriend. Everything on reality tv shows is so scripted now that its becoming obvious to me.

I'm sure Heroes of Cosplay will have more drama amongst themselves which will be stupid. Just show the costume build and the conventions.

The only reality competition show that has a great format now is Syfy's Face Off. The show has no house drama, nobody complaining about how much stress they're in and how they miss their kids or any bullsh*t like that... nope.. Face Off focuses on the creative process of the initial design of their projects and shows exactly what these people are doing in making the face molds, costumes, etc. and it takes up the entire episode from the beginning to the end with no drama filler. The format is working good for the show too considering it was recently renewed for a seventh season.

Yep. That was one of the last episodes I thought was good. After that it was a pointless show.. also, I know everyone likes explosions, but why the hell does every target they shoot at have to explode? I'd be more interested in seeing the actual hit markers and how accurate the shots are instead of just shooting randomly at something while waiting for someone to hit an explosive trigger.

Every once in a while I'll come across free games for PC that look really good. Anyone can feel free to update this topic with limited time free game links so we can add them to our ever growing backlog of games. If a game states how long it will be free for, please list that along with the link. Sometimes it won't be stated so if you click a link and its no longer free, then that promo must have expired. I've seen alot of free game listings off slickdeals or other blogs. I'll update this when I see good ones. I would post the free games with Amazon Prime, but I don't currently have amazon prime so if those appeal to anyone, feel free to post them since Amazon Prime generally gives away a couple free games a month.
      To start off with:
Little Nightmares is currently free with a Steam promotion until 05/30/2021 @ 10:00am (does not say if EDT, PDT, etc. )
      https://store.steampowered.com/app/424840/Little_Nightmares/
Company of Heroes 2, Company of Heroes 2 Ardennes Assault - Limited Free Promotional Package, free for this weekend or until 05/31/2021? It doesn't say exact day it ends.

I've gotten annoyed with managing my digital movie and tv series collection. It didn't bother me before because Netflix had pretty much everything. I'd never have to search for stuff on my hard drives or old dvd-rs because it would all be on Netflix. Now that Netflix has dropped about 50% of their content over the last couple years and will lose significantly more once all of Disney's properties are removed next year I've realized all my old dvds, blu rays and digital movies are all getting more use again. This is were plex comes in.
I setup plex on my main pc, moved a bunch of movies and tv series into some folders and set plex to use those folders. This program auto grabbed all meta data for the content, images, etc and is basically a Netflix clone. I was shocked by how efficient this is. I installed the plex client app on my ps3, ps4 and roku stick and as long as my pc with the plex server is running I can now stream all my content to every tv in the house. It even keeps track of where i left off in a movie and i can resume it on a different device if I want.
So I bought a 4tb hard drive yesterday and I'm going all in on this. I'm going to rip a bunch of my dvds and blu rays (the ones that don't have a digital copy) into mkv files and throw them on that hard drive for my plex. I'll try putting my old anime avi files (with hard coded subs from back in the old download days) in there to to see if plex can play those too.  Plex will even organise by genre to so it all works good. And plex is free.
I was thinking about buying a nvidia shield because it can be used as a plex media server instead of just a client like the PlayStation/roku apps but it looks like it has some limitations with file types and my old anime files would definitely not play on it unless i converted every file thru some program called handbrake. I'll look into that some more.
I figured I'd share this in case anyone else was getting annoyed with Netflix and every company making their own Netflix clones. Instead of paying every company a piece of the pie it'll be cheaper in the long run to just make my own Netflix with the content i already own that is already tailored to my preferances. And plex can stream outside of your home in 720p if you go on a road trip. I doubt I'll ever use that feature tho, especially with upload rates being shit with spectrum.
Go to https://www.plex.tv to get the media server and the PlayStation/xbox store/roku/android to download the plex app. I know this topic seems like am advertisement but they're paying me nothing and it's all free downloads anyway. it just works and works great.

We'll have to wait until 2018 for the new anime series.

The new PlayStation 4 firmware update will include external HHD support for game installation. Finally. I honestly didn't realize the original PS4s even had USB 3. They are also finally adding custom wallpapers via screenshots. About damn time. The wallpapers in the online store are complete garbage. I'd still prefer to use my own .jpg files like on the PS3, but modders used that feature as a way to hack the system which is why we never got the functionality in PS4. Using a screenshot is completely fine with me.

Nvidia is launching an online game streaming service called GeForce NOW.
I'm going to quote myself here from another topic:
With Playstation having it's own streaming service and now Nvidia making it's own service, having to own physical consoles and PCs specifically for gaming might come to an end within our lifetimes.
The downside to the Nvidia service is the cost. I've been seeing the numbers "$25 per 20 hours of gaming" floating around alot. If so, thats a hell of an expense for now.
