Comedy Central has decided not to renew Futurama, which means that the 31st-century-set animated comedy will end its 140-episode run on Sept. 4. The final 13 episodes, which represent the second half of season 7, begin airing on June 19 at 10 p.m.

Futurama is no stranger to cancellation, of course: The series aired from 1999 to 2003 before Fox sent Fry & Co. into oblivion. After thriving in reruns on Adult Swim, Futurama was relaunched in 2007 with four-direct-to-DVD movies that Comedy Central ran in half-hour increments as a 16-episode fifth season in 2008-09. Comedy Central subsequently ordered a sixth season of 26 episodes, which aired in 2010-11, and a seventh season of 26 episodes, the first half of which debuted in 2012.

I always liked Futurama. Its one of the few cartoons that could always make me laugh. Its a shame its coming to an end again, it will be missed.

Now I feel bad for never watching it when it was on comedy central. But then again I think that was around the same time I canceled my cable.

i think this is a fun show even now

The problem is the network,

They dont play it consistently, might be on one week not the next,

Fans from then to now still like the show, Just seems the network didn't do their part well

Thats true. I never knew when a new episode would actually be on. It used to be on the same wednesdays as south park. But with the large gaps of time between seasons, I never knew when to actually watch it. Even when there were new episodes, the lack of airing them consistently made the newer seasons blend in with the constant reruns of the previous seasons. I've seen every episode of Futurama and with it being on netflix I had no desire to watch the constant repeats on their channel and it would result in me missing the new eps I'd actually want to watch. I wouldn't necessarily say the network purposefully set the series for fail, but you don't see Fox airing 3 reruns of simpsons on a wednesday night and then throwing a new ep into the mix every other week. Futurama could have succeeded better if they actually dedicated a time slot for it.

Definitely. Futurama is far better than all three of those shows.

Family Guy and American Dad haven't been nearly that good in the past couple seasons. I'm surprised they keep getting renewed. But then again, Fox has tried adding new cartoons to their sunday lineup numerous times and failed in the ratings. Their latest one is Bob's Burgers. Honestly, I didn't care for it at first, but I prefer watching Bob's Burgers over Cleveland Show and Family Guy now.
