Defiance - Game

7 posts in this topic

A couple days ago the NDA was lifted on the Defiance beta, which means it can be discussed openly. I have been playing the beta this weekend and I am impressed with this game. I've never seen a beta setup before with such an easy way to submit your bug reports and feedback. I must have filled out 15 feedback forms this weekend. So far this game is quite fun. The controls are the same as a typical FPS game. In fact, it more or less was the same button layout as Call of Duty Black Ops 2. The game is played in a 3rd person perspective and when you zoom in with a weapon it does an over the shoulder view that is zoomed in a bit for your weapon sights. When you are using a sniper rifle, the screen will be filled with the entire scope like in a regular FPS game. Groups were working great until this morning. I had no problem meeting up with friends and play the entire campaign together. Fast map travel is available for major cities. Secondary quests are available throughout the map in multiple locations.

If anything, this game is like a combination of Guild Wars and an FPS. Guild Wars because of the secondary quests and fast map travel and an FPS because of the combat system. Also, like in Guild Wars 2 and other MMOs, you will see many other players in the game. Some that might have the same objective as you and are attacking the same enemies. Overall I highly recommend this game. With all the feedback they'll have from this beta, I hope they get the bugs fixed because this game is good.

Actually yes. Thats a good example too. If not for the 3rd person perspective this game definitely has a borderlands feel to it. Defiance isn't as graphically appealing as many games out there, but the game has a really good enjoyability factor. I have noticed that they don't implement any bullet drop and theres no fall damage.. I've jumped off a large cliff and the guy lands like he just did a regular jump. lmao. Theres also a bug with water that just started today.. I was skipping around on the surface jumping all over the place. XD I'm sure they'll get these things fixed up. Although some of these bugs make me wonder how they are going to get most of these things fixed by the 04/02/2013 release date.

LOL. Borderlands 2 got rid of fall damage as well, probably because some of the drops you need to make anyways. There is one drop to get to an area exit without having to backtrack for 10 minutes that will take at least 30 seconds to hit the ground. XD

LMAO. It seems so unbelievable to fall from heights like that. But then again when you die in Borderlands your body is reconstituted at a checkpoint. Oh Well. :P

Yep! That live action trailer was a good promo. I have a feeling this game will be even better than I thought. I got an email from Defiance the other day:

YOU'RE THE BEST. REALLY.

You'll think I say that to all our Beta testers (I do), but it's true - you took a chance and blew us away with top-shelf feedback. You saw a small fraction of the final game, and in the case of console, put up with older code with issues that we already made fixes for in the launch release, but you also showed us a huge future for Defiance™.

Now we look forward to showing you the real, more polished game while we act on your feedback to deliver continuous updates that improves our obsession. That's the beauty of a server-side game - constant updates that are fast like whoa.

Enough rattling on. Thanks again - really - for putting in the hours to push us over the top. We look forward to living up to expectations and to delivering new missions, weapons, challenges and more. Free. Over and over again.

Keep that feedback coming. (link to forums)

The beta on consoles was an older coded version. At least now I won't have to worry about the game being buggy as hell at launch. Although it is a bit annoying to beta test what most likely was an alpha build. From what I saw on their forums, the PC version was much smoother, mini map improvements, hardly any bugs compared to PS3, etc. Turns out the PC beta was the actual beta, and the consoles were included more or less to provide feedback.

I've never played an Assassin's Creed game before. Does anyone know if this is a good price for all these games considering I'd have to use Uplay (my pc can play them fine)? Or would I be better off picking these up on console during a PSN sale?

If you haven't played season 1 or 2, the trailer seems to be spoiler free and doesn't reference any of those events. WTF.. Jesus is in this!?

I've been playing Prince of Persia since way back in the Broderbund days. And just as those classic games broke the barriers of cutting edge gaming back then, the new Prince of Persia does the same. Throwing aside the old side scrolling action and breaking new ground with such entirely unique gameplay, the Prince of Persia series is redifined with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
The game is played in 3rd person perspective with camera controls so excellent, you will never miss out on any of the action. If you were to watch someone playing this, you would think the controls would be intimidating. But in fact, the controls are simple to learn thanks to the basic tutorial that assists you through the beginning scenes.
The plot is great because of its simplicity.
To quote a description from the publisher:
Basically, everyone is turned into a sand demon, but as you play, you soon realize there are 2 others not affected by the Sands.. a young woman of the Maharajah kingdom named Farah and the evil Vizier. They both possess objects that protect them from the affects of the Sand, such as the Dagger has kept the Prince safe.
After the Sands of Time are released, you quickly discover that the only way to destroy the sand demons is to absorb their sand into the Dagger of Time. The Dagger also has other abilities, such as if you were to die abruptly by a missed jump, the Dagger can rewind time at your discretion so you can make another attempt.
The Dagger can do this as long as it has sand reserves. To refill the Dagger, simply kill another sand demon and absorb its sand. As you progress through the game, the Dagger will become stronger with every kill enabling you to do other feats than just rewinding time.
The game is tied together with action and puzzle solving. For example: Kill all the enemies in the room, then get from point A to point B to progress to the next area. And this is were the Prince's abilities really shine. By doing combinations of wall running, jumping, swinging, climbing, pulling switches, hitting levers and wall jumping.. this game is sure to keep you entertained.
With no major stage boundaries or level completion notices, Prince of Persia is a constant, fluid, adrenaline rush adventure.

"Come, join us guardian. In a lifeless world where the only things that exist are you and the enemies that spawn. Ignore these wolves. You'll only see them in a cut scene anyway. Here, have a free gjallarhorn and don't notice any more flaws."

No Bungie. No thanks. I already have that weapon and its pointless because its does so little damage to almost every enemy. I'm not paying you money for an upgraded version of the exact same weapon I bought on the last day I played your game. Good luck in the future. Maybe Destiny 2 will be good but I'm not a raid guy and I realized that you're all about raids and no significant in game plot. I'll pass. This is one of those games that if I want to know the story about, I'll watch it on youtube so I can skip 200 hours of gear grinding to watch a total of 2 hours of cutscenes and dialogue.
