Give that woman a gun

Ladywriter

I consider myself Progressive in my politics, sometimes my views are liberal views, sometimes they're more conservative. When it comes to guns I lean to the right, seemingly out of character for me as most of my friends and fam would consider me a liberal. Sorry, but neither side has me brainwashed, I think for myself. Gun ownership is a right. Gun collectors, just like action figure collectors, can choose what they want to have in their collection. Background checks are necessary to keep guns from violent felons. A safety course should be part of the purchasing process for all guns including range time. I think 10 round clips is a satisfactory compromise. I can't get down with either side because I'm in the middle where shit actually makes sense.....

Anyway

Today I saw this

A woman raises a knife and shouts slogans against Egyptian Islamist

President Mohamed Mursi and members of the Muslim Brotherhood during a

march against sexual harassment and violence against women in Cairo

February 6, 2013.

The rally come...

and the first thing that popped into my head was give that woman a gun.

Terrible? Women are more often on the receiving end of gun violence, I know. Our culture ties guns to masculinity. Our culture ties guns to killing animals and people. It's unfortunate because it turns women off to gun ownership. Not every gun owner hunts, they shoot at targets only. Not every gun owner hunts for sport, what they kill feeds their family. Nor is every gun owner a man.

It gets me to wondering what if it were just as likely that the woman next to you in line had a gun as the guy next to her? What if there was a 50% chance the old lady in the park had a gun under her coat? What if it was equally likely she/he was packing heat? Not only that, but what if it were equally likely the woman with the gun would use it to defend herself? What if we lived in a reality where she was just as potentially deadly as he?

I'm not saying the gun is the almighty equalizer, not at all. Any weapon you have can be taken and used against you if the fight goes south on you. I am saying female gun owners should stop being portrayed as sexy oddities or heartless bitches and start being normalized. We need to stop scaring women away from guns with caveman chest thumping and grunting.

There are plenty of women out there that could out shoot male shooters any day of the week. Glock employees a lot of them on their shooting teams. Of course some of them are held as "sexy oddities" because they are attractive, and they indulge their 'fans' likewise.

The perception of women shooting guns has shifted over the years... a little slower than it should have. But as far as the retail market goes, Manufacturers like Glock, Ruger, Kimber, Bersa, Smith & Wesson, and Taurus have designed small concealable pistols that can easily fit into purses, concealed body hostlers, or simply in a pocket. They've definitely come a long way from the 2 shot derringer that has terrible accuracy. I know 3 of my female friends that carry. Grandma may not be able to handle a .45 but that .380 or 9mm in hollow point will take any man down, especially with 6-10 shots in the mag.

With all the crazies and rapists out there, sometimes mace or tasers just wont cut it. I've seen videos of people hyped up on some bad shit and 3 cops not able to bring him down with tasers. That crazy ex-husband may not care about a restraining order, or that homeless guy desperate for the pills that landed him there may lurk in the corner eyeballing that purse. It shouldn't be socially weird that a women or the elderly carry, they are both viewed as "easy targets" for sick people looking for a victim. Sometimes just pointing a piece at an unsuspecting foe is enough to get them to back off... if they don't? Their demise is a result of their own foolishness.

I carry because I like to target shoot, and because of dumbshits that can't drive, don't follow the rules of the road, and then act like you are in the wrong when they perceived that you have wronged them. I don't do road rage, and ill drop anyone that thinks they need to get out of their vehicle to assault me because I didn't let them in front of me when they broke the law in trying to do so in the first place.

I've been getting ready for spring for the last couple months and its taken up a crazy amount of my free time. We expanded our garden to be really huge last september in preparation for growing fruit and veggies. Then we decided to expand it another 6 more feet in one direction which we finally got finished last weekend. It was alot of work because our garden has an almost 6 foot tall deer fence all around it. We hammered in u-posts into the ground and attached the deer net and buried the bottom of the net so nothing will burrow under it. I should do measurements at some point to figure out its total volume. Its huge. lol.
We have 3 apple trees, 3 cherry trees, and 1 nectarine tree in there. We still have to move 3 of those trees into their permanent locations (they are only 1 or 2 year old trees so its still possible to dig them up) and we have to plant a new apricot tree in there. I prepped the two rows for veggies last month but theres alot of weed whacking to do still and plants to move. We have 4 grape vines, 4 blueberry bushes and multiple raspberry plants to move. I started a bunch of veggies from seed and those tomatoes are still in an unused bath tub in my house with a light over them getting bigger every day. I'm looking forward to getting everything planted and done so all this gardening can give me a break.

Well my dryer broke after about 15 years and multiple repairs I've done over those years. I had to buy a new dryer. So far so good. I was finally able to get my laundry done again and my bathroom no longer smells like dirty socks and febreeze.

FML my pressure tank is failing for my well. Its getting replaced next week. Getting a new whole house water filter installed too along with some new valves and safety upgrades. Props to the well company employee for giving me the tip of hooking up an air compressor to the pressure tank to put some air in the bladder to get the system gimping along until the repair work is done. I miss public water. lol.

This has been a busy summer. I'm almost looking forward to winter so I can get a break from all the lawn mowing and outside projects. Hopefully the snow blower I bought this year works good so I'll have alot of free time this winter to get caught up on things. When I've had free time I've been playing Final Fantasy X over the last 5 months and I've somehow finally hit 100 hours on it. Lol. Only took me about half a year.  I still didn't beat it yet but I'm at the end game stuff now with the monster arena and omega ruins.
