Microsoft will be announcing its new next generation Xbox console during a live press conference on May 21, 10am PDT. You can watch it live on Xbox Live, Xbox.com and Spike TV.

"On that day, we'll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future. Then, 19 days later at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, we'll continue the conversation and showcase our full lineup of blockbuster games," said Xbox's community guru Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.

Here is a good breakdown on the rumors.

I'm pretty pumped about this. I'm not affected by the always online. All my devices are always online by choice, and I guess im one of the few that it doesnt bother. However I dont think this will be the case for the system for playing games, and more for the entertainment aspect, like being your cable box.

The HDMI in port sounds very intriguing:

Multiple sources familiar with the company's Xbox plans have revealed to The Verge that Microsoft will introduce a feature that lets its next-generation console take over a TV and set-top box in a similar way to Google TV. We understand that the next Xbox will require an online connection to use the entertainment services, allowing them to be always-on for streaming and access to TV signals.

The functionality will work by taking a cable box signal and passing it through to the Xbox via HDMI, allowing Microsoft's console to overlay a UI and features on top of an existing TV channel or set-top box... Extended support for various cable services will be rolled out gradually...

I could see that working out in interesting ways. Maybe while a show is on, the system will realize what you are watching and potentially feed you new information based off it. Maybe during commercial breaks you could switch over to another app or game and have the system auto switch you back when the show resumes? Maybe the Xbox could act as a separate DVR system that doesn't charge you a monthly fee?

It'll be interesting to see Microsoft's announcement.

Thats really good news. For single player games it would have been an unnecessary limitation considering PS4, PC and all handheld systems allow offline gaming. They really got some bad press from that twitter guy with this issue.

They emphasized cloud computing & nothing about blu ray so does that mean it doesn't have blu ray?

Beyond that this seemed way too aimed at a casual audience unlike the PS4 event back in February that was nothing but cinematics. So for me in this next gen console war between PS4 & Xbox One (seriously bad name. Does hardware really need a reboot name?) it comes down to whether you want to be lied to (PS4) or mostly ignored (Xbox One).

On the bright side CoD Ghosts look like it has really real realness, but I've never been a CoD fan before.

They said it has a blu-ray drive in it (when whats his nuts went over the console specs).

Quite honestly I think this is a rather big gamble for MS but it has me interested, more so then the PS4. The name is rather corny (I actually liked the Infinite name that was circling the net the last couple weeks). Some of the new features definitely caught me attention and I actually like the consoles look. Once more information comes out and we get more game footage during E3 I'll be making my decision about whether or not I continue into the next gen or not.

For the first time in 2 years I'm actually interested in a CoD game. Ghosts looks amazing, that's all I have to say.

I'd really like to see MS adopt a Steam like system since they seemingly are not going to support used games... Console digital bundles and "Steam-like" Sales will destroy gamestop. I dont mind waiting a year to pick 3 games up for $5-10 packaged together.

I'm disappointed that the illumiroom wasn't shown. That would have been huge.

I think they're going to have to do something like that. Sony and Microsoft need to start competing with steams prices and sales, especially since they'll be moving more towards their own dedicated digital distribution and account owned games. Steam is obviously making enough money that Microsoft wants to emulate their setup and stop used games. But if they don't do the sales, their stance on no used games might come back to kick them in the ass.

Why can't there be a console where it's sole purpose is to get the user to play a game without integration to television and all that jazz? I think tomorrow if there was to be someone who said frakk all that excess baggage, here's a player that focuses all it's power and resources on games, just games and here are some awesome games that we've co-created just for the console. Win. No bullcrap approach. You want Facebook integration or Hulu Plus or whatever else, too bad. Argument to that could be that someone gives you a product with everything in it. I don't know how at par it would be, in most cases it isn't.

Welcome to the new age of gaming and entertainment GG. Get used to it, it's not going anywhere. I came to that realization years ago. As long as there's a demand for this to happen it's going to happen.

As it is right now, I'm leaning more towards the PS4. If PS4 will let me transfer my digitally purchased items from PS3 to play on my PS4, they'll pretty much have me sold at this point.

I'm hoping Xbox shows the system's full gaming potential at E3, because its not really standing out over the PS4 at this point IMO.

Right now PS4 would need to do that, have PS Plus, Not make the touch pad & PS Eye necessary for gaming then maybe I might want one.

Both the Xbox One & PS4 are annoying me with the idea they need cameras always on to play them.

PS Plus wont be on the PS4, They'll be using their new online service PS World. Which was apparently modeled off of XBL. Unless I've missed it, they still haven't announced that you wont need it to play online... just a thought. Since everyone is use to playing for free on PSN's subpar matchmaking, its something they definitely can go without mentioning and let people assume it will be the same online structure.

I'm kinda leaning PS4 right now mostly because all my friends plan on getting it. I don't have much use for an Xbox One with no one to co-op with. Paying the service wont bother me... but I'd imagine it would piss off a lot of people.

If PS World costs a subscription fee, then it better be much much better than the current PS3 setup. Sending and receiving game invites thru PSN is cumbersome. I would assume the new PS World is going to be good considering everything they've been talking about, like being able to live stream every game and having friends pause their games to watch what you are playing, etc.

If its like XBL on 360.... its worth it to me. I remember waiting 10 minutes just to join a match on Twisted Metal, and my friend in my party didn't get in.. we could never get int he same game on PS3... that's just not going to work. I think Sony took a good hard look at XBL compared to their network this gen... if they copied it heavily there is no shame in that. lol. I don't remember what invites are like on PS3, but they are relatively simple to accept on XBL.

Because someone was bound to make a Hitler reaction to Xbox One's reveal....

LOL... that is one of the worst ones I've seen because of the super quick subtitles that you cant completely read before it changes... plus I'm a fan of the actual film.

I've been getting ready for spring for the last couple months and its taken up a crazy amount of my free time. We expanded our garden to be really huge last september in preparation for growing fruit and veggies. Then we decided to expand it another 6 more feet in one direction which we finally got finished last weekend. It was alot of work because our garden has an almost 6 foot tall deer fence all around it. We hammered in u-posts into the ground and attached the deer net and buried the bottom of the net so nothing will burrow under it. I should do measurements at some point to figure out its total volume. Its huge. lol.
We have 3 apple trees, 3 cherry trees, and 1 nectarine tree in there. We still have to move 3 of those trees into their permanent locations (they are only 1 or 2 year old trees so its still possible to dig them up) and we have to plant a new apricot tree in there. I prepped the two rows for veggies last month but theres alot of weed whacking to do still and plants to move. We have 4 grape vines, 4 blueberry bushes and multiple raspberry plants to move. I started a bunch of veggies from seed and those tomatoes are still in an unused bath tub in my house with a light over them getting bigger every day. I'm looking forward to getting everything planted and done so all this gardening can give me a break.

Well my dryer broke after about 15 years and multiple repairs I've done over those years. I had to buy a new dryer. So far so good. I was finally able to get my laundry done again and my bathroom no longer smells like dirty socks and febreeze.

FML my pressure tank is failing for my well. Its getting replaced next week. Getting a new whole house water filter installed too along with some new valves and safety upgrades. Props to the well company employee for giving me the tip of hooking up an air compressor to the pressure tank to put some air in the bladder to get the system gimping along until the repair work is done. I miss public water. lol.

This has been a busy summer. I'm almost looking forward to winter so I can get a break from all the lawn mowing and outside projects. Hopefully the snow blower I bought this year works good so I'll have alot of free time this winter to get caught up on things. When I've had free time I've been playing Final Fantasy X over the last 5 months and I've somehow finally hit 100 hours on it. Lol. Only took me about half a year.  I still didn't beat it yet but I'm at the end game stuff now with the monster arena and omega ruins.
