New Details Emerge on the PS4

New details have emerged on Sony's next generation console. The console code named "Orbis" will have built in PS Move support, and a new controller to go along with it. While developers are reportedly using a hybrid six-axis/dual shock 3 controller with their dev kits, there is speculation that this new controller will use Vita's technology to implement a touch screen while retaining the iconic button set up. Aside from what can only be assumed to be inspiration from the Wii U, the controller is also rumored to have a RGB LED light and much improved motion detection technology.

The dev kit specs never exactly match the final console, but here is what developers are currently working with:

  • System Memory: 8GB
  • Video Memory: 2.2 GB
  • CPU: 4x Dual-Core AMD64 "Bulldozer" (so, 8x cores)
  • GPU: AMD R10xx
  • Ports: 4x USB 3.0, 2x Ethernet
  • Drive: Blu-Ray
  • HDD: 160GB
  • Audio Output: HDMI & Optical, 2.0, 5.1 & 7.1 channels

I could see that controller working as long as the screen isn't too big or heavy. It better have a comfortable feel to it too.

btw, if the PS4 is $500-$600 I will pass on it until a price drop. PS3 at the time for $600 made sense because it had blu-ray in it and it was some cutting edge tech at the time. I'd rather have a new console every 5 years instead of 7 with a lower price tag and more digitially released games that can move with the owner to the next system so we don't have to worry about backwards compatibly issues with hardware. Seeing as steam will keep all my games over the years through a variety of computers, I'd like to see the console makers have the digital games carry over too. There is no reason why they shouldn't be able to and its more of an incentive for game makers because it would stop a lot of pre-owned game sales.

I hate touch screens so I won't be buying this.

My future seems to be in PC Gaming.

Then they will start requiring you to use a touch screen monitor or play games XD

If the screen is the size of an iphone screen horizontal it should be fine.... I don't want to see a massive controller like Wii U. The touch screen should only be used for things like maps, back ground download statuses, and maybe cool things like score streaks that require remote control in COD or  equipment in BF. If its used too heavily it becomes a distraction from the TV screen. It would also be useful to read messages you receive during game play, let you know who's online, manage your invites. The only issue is that an extra/replacement controller is going to be expensive if Wii U is the standard. Ive never broken my controllers so its not that big of an issue for me.

I'm guessing the price point will be $49999 for the basic model. With inflation over the years and how much new tech costs, there is no way you'll ever see a console not released by Nintendo for less than that ever again. the days of $299 and $399 are over. Even at that price they will be taking a loss for ever sale per usual.

Those were the days XD. Whats interesting is that games are the same price which just shows you how much we are being ripped off. At least they've toned down on $70 games... screw that. Even if it went all digital I don't think we'd ever see games go down in price. In a fair market if they went all digital I think they should charge $35 max for a brand new game. With no costs in making discs or cases, they should recover their costs of development and turn a profit quickly. Along with that you could probably charge that amount for a longer duration rather than dropping a game from $5999 to $1999 after it had gotten old.

Oh man, cheap ass console, expensive games. Good times. :P

Steam has really set the bar in terms of what digital prices should be with their sales. It still dumbfounds me that a game on Steam might cost me $4.99 but on PSN its $17.99. Some of the prices on PSN are ridiculous for digital downloads.

I never said it would be a long future. I tend to think Skyrim GOTY Edition will be the last PC game I'll ever need if I don't like the next Single Player Elder Scrolls Game.

I'm looking at that picture of the sega genesis and it had me remembering when it originally came out. Everyone was like.. "Oh damn! it has three buttons!" XD

Altered Beasts had a button for punch, kick and jump. It was revolutionary. XD

Looking at the comments for this article (or any console uploaded bf3 video on youtube) and I always see the same things. So many computer players that hate all console systems. It'll be interesting to see what Sony announces for the PS4. I'm really more interested in what the new xbox will be. That illumiroom thing with their new kinect really grabbed my attention.

I think PC's bragging rights on 64 player battles on Battlefield has come to and end with this next generation. Some of those hard core PC players are flat out ignorant.

Oh cool, your game looks better on PC after you spent a couple grand more the entire lifespan of my console... cool story bro derp derp derp. I play games on PC, but I'm not bias towards either. Console gaming is more convenient, and with the media center they've become, they hold their own quite well to PC gaming.

Sony draws first blood, but I expect a 1 up display by Miscrosoft. Hopefully Sony took the stick out of their ass from the PS2 era and learned from this generation. With Nintendo cowering in the corner with its "different market". This arms race between PS and Xbox can only get better for gamers. I expect heavy blows to be traded. Hopefully we will see this go the way of SNES vs. Genesis as far as an era of gaming.

I think that eventually the consoles will be on par with PC's to a point where more advanced computers won't make a difference in terms of the scale of the game that is designed. If the new consoles could support 100 vs. 100 in Battlefield 4 or 5, then PC systems could end up having 200 vs. 200. But all that seems pointless. Imagine playing a game of 100 vs 100 of BF4 with a 500 ticket count and a map the size of all maps ever released combined. I'm sure games of that scale would be amazing. But game designers would have to realize they wouldn't have the amount of players needed for games of that size and will have to cap the games at a certain player count regardless of it being a PC or console. Then the only difference between all the platforms will be the ever evolving graphics card. PCs will always look better than consoles because of upgrade capabilities. But in the near future that will be the only thing setting PC games apart from consoles as far as i can tell.

The only bragging rights PCs should have is Adult Only Mods. Beyond that though I'd like to believe Consoles are the future of MMOs.

I expect Microsoft to show off how well the next Xbox works with Windows 8. I'm hoping Nintendo drops out of the console market before they come out with another goofy controller that will be copied.

Also I think despite Blu-Ray I'll be focusing still on games I get for free through PS+ & whatever I might buy on PS Home.

I'm hoping that sony announces that PSN accounts will carry over to the PS4 and all purchased content and DLC will be available for downloading and playing. Its one thing to not have backwards compatibility because of hardware limitations, but all digital purchases should be available or all the ppl that have spent hundreds on PSN purchases will have to continue using their PS3s for years to come just to access their content.

Seriously, Its such a dumbass argument. I paid $500 for my console and played it for 5-7 years with games you cannot get on PC. Meanwhile the hardcore PC gamer spends $2000, then $200-400 multiple times in the same span if they truly keep their specs up to date... just to play some overrated Crysis game. PC games are subjected to cheaters way more than any Console game as well. Look up the aim bot users on BF3, its ridiculous.

I can see 100 on 100. Maps so big you could never get to the other side of it in an hour. 100 vs. 100 is as big as I think it should get. There definitely would be enough players while the game lived its new life cycle. I'd like to see COD go to 32 player battles. The've had some great big maps in the past, and time always runs out because everyone hides or there isn't enough population on the map to garner enough kills.

Then we have the Original Infinity Ward that left after MW2 that has been working on a game. Respawn Entertainment. I'm assuming they will release their game on the next gen consoles.

I have no real interest in playing FPS multiplayer games on PC. I've seen way too many AIM bot videos already and it looks even worse for COD. I could see 100 vs 100 games working, but with every game now coming out with multiplayer games it takes away some players from the bigger titles. 100 vs 100 would work for games like COD with no real server browser options, but BF3 has so many maps and game modes that 100 vs 100 would probably require putting limitations on map rotations and game mod selections.

Real Prototype PS4 Controller revealed.. and it looks bulky to me. I'm sure they'll trim it down for ergonomics, but the giant light on it looks a bit annoying.

Despite the bulkiness I actually like that PS4 Controller! But then again that's probably because I noticed that PS4 Controller isn't a Cordless Controller. Which means for me I don't have to worry about whether or not the recharge wire for the Controller is actually charging it or not.

I've been getting ready for spring for the last couple months and its taken up a crazy amount of my free time. We expanded our garden to be really huge last september in preparation for growing fruit and veggies. Then we decided to expand it another 6 more feet in one direction which we finally got finished last weekend. It was alot of work because our garden has an almost 6 foot tall deer fence all around it. We hammered in u-posts into the ground and attached the deer net and buried the bottom of the net so nothing will burrow under it. I should do measurements at some point to figure out its total volume. Its huge. lol.
We have 3 apple trees, 3 cherry trees, and 1 nectarine tree in there. We still have to move 3 of those trees into their permanent locations (they are only 1 or 2 year old trees so its still possible to dig them up) and we have to plant a new apricot tree in there. I prepped the two rows for veggies last month but theres alot of weed whacking to do still and plants to move. We have 4 grape vines, 4 blueberry bushes and multiple raspberry plants to move. I started a bunch of veggies from seed and those tomatoes are still in an unused bath tub in my house with a light over them getting bigger every day. I'm looking forward to getting everything planted and done so all this gardening can give me a break.

Well my dryer broke after about 15 years and multiple repairs I've done over those years. I had to buy a new dryer. So far so good. I was finally able to get my laundry done again and my bathroom no longer smells like dirty socks and febreeze.

FML my pressure tank is failing for my well. Its getting replaced next week. Getting a new whole house water filter installed too along with some new valves and safety upgrades. Props to the well company employee for giving me the tip of hooking up an air compressor to the pressure tank to put some air in the bladder to get the system gimping along until the repair work is done. I miss public water. lol.

This has been a busy summer. I'm almost looking forward to winter so I can get a break from all the lawn mowing and outside projects. Hopefully the snow blower I bought this year works good so I'll have alot of free time this winter to get caught up on things. When I've had free time I've been playing Final Fantasy X over the last 5 months and I've somehow finally hit 100 hours on it. Lol. Only took me about half a year.  I still didn't beat it yet but I'm at the end game stuff now with the monster arena and omega ruins.
