Battlefield 4 Phanton Prospect Assignment & Megalodon?

Sledgstone

There is a mysterious assignment on Battlefield 4 called "Phantom Prospect" which leads to speculation about a possible Megalodon easter egg on Paracel Storm. I unlocked this assignment tonight, but I haven't seen any Megalodons or dinosaurs yet. Thanks to jackfrags for this video.

Speaking of which. BF4 had me update to the latest nVidia drivers and it keeps randomly locking up my computer. I did a restore point thinking that was the issue, but it just reverted my drivers, so when I tried to play again, I had to re-update and now its happening again. sheesh...

EDIT: Yeah I'm done with this BETA... my computer cant handle it. I'll just stick with my old drivers that don't freeze up my computer when I'm typing a post.

The controls were a mess for PS3. "Veteran" controls were not the BF3 controls. They really need to add more control options. I'm surprised they didn't mention anything about the overpowered RPG. The power of it doesn't seem to bother me, but the reload is much faster than BF3. As I love being in a tank, those RPGs were flying at me like crazy.

BTW, the leaning feature was crap. It didn't function at all like in Medal of Honor. Unless you got right up to the edge of something, most of the time it would never show up as an option and when leaning, I'd break the lean by accident far to easily.

I think they should just let players bind the keys like you can on PC. I haven't played it on the console, but they really need to separate the chopper and jet controls. I like to use pitch and yaw on different sticks for chopper, and I like ascend and descent inverted on jet. For BF3, There was just "Air Controls" while PC had Chopper and Jet controls as separate categories.

On PC, BF3 had a variety of control options I would have loved. I even saw where some people had professional joysticks to use for when they got into air vehicles. But on PS3's BF4, the control options were garbage. Just one control setting had fire as R1, all other settings had the fire command as an L button. And there was no customized settings, just the 4 or so preset ones.

The RPGs will be nerfed soon after its launch. During BF4's first year they'll tinker with nerfs and buffs monthly. I guess they go by a big spread sheet of stats or something. They'll probably increase the reload time minimally and drop the damage a tiny bit. Thats the one thing I like about DICE opposed to Treyarch... Treyarch goes out of their way to darastically change the performance of a gun by making it a lot weaker or make the recoil significantly more. What they did to the FAL in BOII still pisses me off to this day.

Wow thats worse than Xbox 360's. As far as button layout... Yeah Xbox had the 4 presets, I guess Legacy is what I liked for chopper, but invert flight controls carried over to both chopper and jet, and its just not something I liked for both.

Perhaps with aim assist existing on consoles, the remapping could face cheater glitches, or bugs? Even though you can use a controller on PC, its no where near as fluid as it is on console. I'm not looking for a full remap. I'd just like to control where fire, ads, grenades, knife, crouch, and spot are.

Yep. One thing I'm glad for is that Keyboard and mouse controls will not work on the console versions. If people could hook up a keyboard and mouse and are effective with those controls, they could dominate BF4 on console against all the controller users. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the first things someone does, is get a keyboard / mouse combo to work.

I liked Gulf of Oman. Wake Island was fun but I'm glad its not in there because of repetition. I played that map to death on BF3. I mostly liked it because of how large it was and how many vehicles there were in it.. but with 64 player conquest and all maps at full size, it doesn't bother me at all. :D

Ok. after I figured out my L3 button actually did work this is what I know about PS4 BF4.

I have only played as engineer class because the gun was so shitty in the beta, I'm trying to get past it.

1. Guns kill MW2 fast.. wow.. this is so different for BF, I dont know what to think. You use to have to hold your sight on a target for a good 1.5-3 seconds on a target to drop them and expend a good amount of bullets. I complained when COD went to this method because it was suppose to be fast paced. Either its just SMGs or these franchises have flip flopped... there is still a chance DICE may nerf stuff, but I think it could be a sign of what to expect in Battlefront. I was getting dropped fast by assault rifles so I will say for now. Guns kill wicked fast. If you don't like it, get use to it.

2. The littlebird is fucking deadly.... I was playing with it in test range and its maneuverability is off the charts compared to BF3... Its minigun is way more powerful and accurate... again I think this equates to guns kill faster... that doesn't apply to other vehicles though. It took a good 2-4 cool downs to take out a pratice drone. I need to get this in a real match.

3. This game is beautiful. My TV only runs in 720p, and it looks great.

4. Weapons start out with optics

5. Premium members are treated to battlepacks, you open them one at a time and get a random slew of goodies. They seem to come out every month. I got some gun camos, 1 hour 50% more xp, a new knife, and some emblem options.

6. DICE seemed to forgoe BF3's soldier loadout on the title screen and reverted back to BFBC2 where you have to do it in game.. you can probably do it via battlelog as well, but I haven't checked. I don't like this, but I dont hate it I guess.

7. Even though I've done it for years on COD. having O/B instead of R1 for knife is throwing me off so bad... I guess I wasn't a big melee person in COD, but I was in BF. I've blasted a few snipers from behind just to level up my gun... i passed on dog tags.. lol

8. I acutally like the Sony's control layout better.. mostly because the D pad has always been superior.

9. PS4's triggers are a dream. 360 triggers are awesome, but PS4 really stole from it and found a way to make it "luxurious". The curvature of the buttons just feel right.

I'm glad the triggers are good. Ever since I got an Xbox 360 controller for PC, the PS3 triggers seem like huge clunky buttons with no strategic value. I agree about melee. I did not like the circle button melee for BF4. I need crouch / prone to be R3 and I wished I could map the buttons completely on BF4 beta, but I couldn't.

I think I read in a battlelog post from the developers that the TTK (time to kill for people who don't know.) was changed from BF3 slightly. The the biggest increase in kill time is actually cause by how suppression is factored in. Because in BF3, everyone was suppressed by basically everything, the hit calculations would cause the TTK to take longer. The more bullets firing at you, the less hit markers or damage you would do. But in BF4, you only get suppressed by the support class's machine guns if I'm remembering correctly. Because of the faster rate of fire of assault rifles, they'll drop people really quick now. I'm sure DICE will nerf some of this in a future patch, especially if everyone keeps playing assault. What really annoys me is that even with the increased kill time, sniper rifles will still only one shot kill if its a head shot. With the ridiculous range I was getting with numerous guns on the beta, this seems to put the sniper rifle at a disadvantage considering the reload of bolt action rifles. There was a couple times in the beta where I heard the tell tale sound of a sniper rifle, looked up at a building and killed the sniper with my assault rifle. wtf.. that would not have been possible on BF3.

Conquest is impossible to get on. The one server i manager to get into I get kicked within seconds. Server filters wont bring any conquest matches up and quick match wont join a damn game... is pretty fustrating. I can join any game mode except conquest right now.

Parcel Storm on rush is inane... definitely the best visuals I've ever seen in an FPS... the rain is crazy and the waves are epic.

It only takes 2-3 hits with the SMAW to take out a tank. Soloing a tank its much easier in this game, especially since you get 4 rockets.

Damn.. that kind of sucks for me playing in a tank. In the beta it felt like being in a tank was a death trap. How are the vehicle upgrades? Maybe the tanks are weaker because there are armor upgrades?

Have you tried sniping yet? Hows the bullet drop over longer distances?

It definitely sounds like assault rifles are beastly in this game. DICE needs to focus on getting the game working and then fixing the gun balance. When you get the MAV or EOD Bot unlocked try to see if you can put C4 of Claymores on them. Before DICE patched it on BF3, you could put C4 on a MAV, have a teammate fly the MAV right on top of a tank, have the other person use C4, kill everyone in the explosion and then fly the MAV away because it was immune to friendly fire. XD And on EOD Bot, someone could put claymores on them, then the EOD Bot guy could just ram into enemies and get a claymore kill. XD

I've been getting ready for spring for the last couple months and its taken up a crazy amount of my free time. We expanded our garden to be really huge last september in preparation for growing fruit and veggies. Then we decided to expand it another 6 more feet in one direction which we finally got finished last weekend. It was alot of work because our garden has an almost 6 foot tall deer fence all around it. We hammered in u-posts into the ground and attached the deer net and buried the bottom of the net so nothing will burrow under it. I should do measurements at some point to figure out its total volume. Its huge. lol.
We have 3 apple trees, 3 cherry trees, and 1 nectarine tree in there. We still have to move 3 of those trees into their permanent locations (they are only 1 or 2 year old trees so its still possible to dig them up) and we have to plant a new apricot tree in there. I prepped the two rows for veggies last month but theres alot of weed whacking to do still and plants to move. We have 4 grape vines, 4 blueberry bushes and multiple raspberry plants to move. I started a bunch of veggies from seed and those tomatoes are still in an unused bath tub in my house with a light over them getting bigger every day. I'm looking forward to getting everything planted and done so all this gardening can give me a break.

Well my dryer broke after about 15 years and multiple repairs I've done over those years. I had to buy a new dryer. So far so good. I was finally able to get my laundry done again and my bathroom no longer smells like dirty socks and febreeze.

FML my pressure tank is failing for my well. Its getting replaced next week. Getting a new whole house water filter installed too along with some new valves and safety upgrades. Props to the well company employee for giving me the tip of hooking up an air compressor to the pressure tank to put some air in the bladder to get the system gimping along until the repair work is done. I miss public water. lol.

This has been a busy summer. I'm almost looking forward to winter so I can get a break from all the lawn mowing and outside projects. Hopefully the snow blower I bought this year works good so I'll have alot of free time this winter to get caught up on things. When I've had free time I've been playing Final Fantasy X over the last 5 months and I've somehow finally hit 100 hours on it. Lol. Only took me about half a year.  I still didn't beat it yet but I'm at the end game stuff now with the monster arena and omega ruins.
